JIHAD JEOPARDY: Part-time model’s career at risk over anti-semitic campaign

Incendiary letter writer Raya Rusho’s career as a part-time model and show biz extra has been jeopardised by her public displays of Israel bashing and Jew hating according to industry insiders.

“Racists aren’t chic,” one fashion industry observer explained to VEXNEWS. “This sort of thing is very corrosive to her brand. It’s just nasty,” they said on condition of anonymity.

VEXNEWS reported on Friday that the “Green architecture” enthusiast had been caught claiming in The Age newspaper that she had an “open mind” on the Middle East but that Israel was all bad all the time. VEXNEWS investigators discovered that Rusho had previously gleefully predicted the fall of “the Jews” and of Israel on a BBC website. This gave rise to the conclusion that – in the defence of jihad – she was willing to bend the truth just a little.

She wrote: “The Israelis have gained enough power and money to prey on those weaker than them. It’s only a matter of time before the Jews lose that power and money and they are left to fend for themselves. With this they’ll have a taste of their own medicine…”

WHY THIS MATTERS
Too many still buy hateful ancient anti-semitic propaganda about the Jewish people possessing vast money and power, in some vast international conspiracy. These blood lies were at the heart of Hitler’s Holocaust. Like all racial generalisations, they say a lot more about those propagating them than those they are describing.

From the struggling immigrants from Africa and Russia who are building new lives in freedom in Israel to the battlers in Orthodox Jewish families in East St Kilda with big families and big problems, any scrutiny of vicious conspiracy theories about the Jewish people easily yields the complex truth of a people who have endured immeasurable suffering and bigotry for centuries, with the normal mix of triumph and disaster experienced by everyone else (excluding pogroms and the Holocaust which we’d submit were uniquely dreadful).  Israel’s own story is similarly complex and equally a victory over incredible adversity, in a land with next to no natural resources other than the ingenuity, determination and passion of its people, surrounded by neighbours sworn to their destruction and much of the world that stands idly by or worse.

That such vile prejudice comes so easily from the keyboard of a young woman clearly blessed and privileged with a bright future ahead of her is all the more confronting and distressing.  Indeed, Ms Rusho declares herself to be “sexy” and “friendly” in her model’s profile. You don’t have to an uneducated, old, male fat slob to be an anti-semite. It’s not a comforting thought for those of us who vow “Never again.”

Rusho came rushing to her own defence yesterday, admitting the comments were her own but saying they didn’t make her an anti-semite because semites including Arabs too. She seemed particularly distressed at the publication of photographs of her drinking alcohol and outside known terror targets.

Despite conceding the veracity of our entire story, she still threatened to sue us for “Slander and Defamation”. Clearly no rocket scientist or legal scholar, we assume she meant libel and while we’d celebrate the chance to bring further attention to her moronic views and to explore the truth of our political comment, we doubt she’ll have the cojones to proceed.

Click here to see more of Raya Rusho’s portfolio. If a career in modelling is now out of the question in Australia, perhaps Hamas might try to lighten up its missile-toting terror image with a “Face of Jihad” campaign.

  31. Andrew Landeryou, it all comes down to belief doesn’t it? You have a belief that you are right, and you will kill for your belief (if not in reality, then use your blog to attempt to destroy Miss Rusho’s career) or encourage others to so do. All religious zealots have done the same all through time. Jews. Christians. Muslims. All have killed and incited others to kill because they believe they are right and every one else is wrong!.

And what is most obscene, do it in the name of God!
Killing, not based on a fact that is irrefutable, but on a belief.

You believe something about Miss Rusho; you even suggest that she is anti-Semitic, not based on what she has written, but on what YOU believe and therefore you can condemn her. She states that she can no longer remain unbiased. She has taken a position. Nevertheless, she is now attacked her self. If she were truly anti Semitic she wouldn’t take a position, because Semites (according to the Macquarie Dictionary) “… supposedly descended from the House of Shem, eldest son of Noah” include Hebrews, Arabs and Assyrians. To be truly anti-Semitic therefore would be against Israelis AND Palestinians. Bet you didn’t know that!

What is true however, is that there is ongoing distortion of the facts in all media (and I hesitate to call this page media).
Fact 1: Hamas was a democratically elected government on Jan 26 2006.
Fact 2: Israel and other countries blockade Gaza, preventing movement of goods into or out of the territory.

Gaza is isolated because the people of Gaza had the temerity to elect a government that would remove the previously corrupt regime, and they hoped would stand up for their rights to exists as an independent people. Because the Israelis didn’t want this government that they didn’t like, they stopped all trade, and humanitarian movements into and out of the territory. So Gazan’s use what ever they have been brought up with to try to change what they have. They are trying to break out of their jail!

Through this action lets call Gaza what it has become. The Jews have created a Concentration Camp in Palestine, just like the Germans did to them. The only thing missing are the cattle tracks and the gas chambers, to transport them somewhere else. But hang on; the Israelis don’t have to transport them anywhere, they can bomb them where they are an exterminate them that way. Sadly, history repeats, and the wronged are now do more of the same.

    For the record, (and from Israeli sources);
In the 2005 Intifada Palestinians killed 197; Israelis 52: Almost 4 Palestinians to 1 Israeli
In the 2006 Intifada Palestinians killed 662; Israelis 29; Almost 23:1
In the 2007 Intifada Palestinians killed 383; Israelis 13; Just over 29:1
In the 2008 Intifada not all the numbers are collated, but to September; Palestinians killed 434 Israelis: 31 14:1
    See http://mideastweb.org/second_intifada_timeline-2005.htm

Israel sees that the only way out is to continue bombing, whether it is Gaza or Lebanon, to continue to oppress, rather than win the hearts and minds. This issue isn’t going away anytime soon, and your petty remarks reflect the hard line that will ensure that Israel will continue to live in war. A country whose origin was in terrorism is fated to live with terrorism until it faces it’s own beginnings.

  35. Murray,

You believe something about Miss Rusho; you even suggest that she is anti-Semitic, not based on what she has written

Rubbish. Andrew’s assessment was based entirely on what she wrote. Not in The Age though, but on the BBC’s website. Allow me to quote it for you, as you apparently missed it the first three times:

“The Israelis have gained enough power and money to prey on those weaker than them. It’s only a matter of time before the Jews lose that power and money and they are left to fend for themselves. With this they’ll have a taste of their own medicine… “

Any questions? The issue in relation to the Age, was simply her completely dishonest (though not of itself antisemitic) claim to be unbiased, when she is anything but.

Thanks for cutting and pasting a whole lot of other drivel though.

Are you capable of thinking for yourself? Or do you believe that you will somehow convince people of your specious argument by posting lots of irrelevant statistics.

I say irrelevant, because the number of Palestinians killed, is not of itself an indicator of who is wrong and who is right.

A lot more Germans were killed than Americans at the end of WWII. Were the Nazis therefore the victims?

The figures you quote, include (for example) Palestinians who died blowing themselves up. They also include Palestinians who died while shooting at Israeli civilians.

Are we actually meant to feel sorry for them? Is that your point?

The undeniable fact is, were the Palestinians to stop trying to murder Jews tomorrow, the Palestinian death-count would be zero (except for those killed by other Arabs – a massive problem of which you hear very little).

The amount of money pledged to the Palestinians is such they could be the wealthiest Arabs in the region, if they so choose.

However, instead of building any form of worthwhile society, they choose instead to continue to attack Israel, and encourage their five year old children to die for Allah. They can only blame themselves. Of course it’s far easier to blame the Jews.

  37. Murray has written a lengthy and error filled comment. I won’t respond to all of it as it repeats erroneous assertions made by Ms Rusho earlier. He/she hasn’t read or comprehended previous responses. To avoid use of profanity, I’ll ignore the ridiculous and obscene comparison Murray makes between Israel and the Nazis.

But I urge all those who think Israel is defending itself against nothing to check out this Twitter feed QassamCount

In 2008, over three thousand Hamas missiles hit Israel.

Those missiles can reach as many as one million Israelis. The fact the country has taken incredible precautions to protect its citizens doesn’t alter the fact of Hamas’s murderous intentions one bit.

No democratic government could fail to take action against this persistent terrorist campaign.

The regime in Gaza responsible for this – led by Hamas – is not only sworn to Israel’s destruction but to the Jewish people as well.

How elements of “progressive” politics has been seduced or conned by this extreme racist and misogynist group can only be attributed to their blind opposition of Israel’s ally, the United States.

Hamas’s leaders have denied the Holocaust ever happened, they call Jews “”apes, pigs, mice, and lizards” in official publications, they brutally suppress internal critics, attempt to silence free press in Gaza and instruct even the youngest kids that dying as “martyrs” in suicide bombing attacks is a noble thing to do.

In Gaza, the Hamas regime allows “honour killings” of women who offend the men who purport to own them like property, fails to support the education of women, allows forced marriages, treats women – in legal terms – as minors who require the signature of their male master on forms and contracts.

It – and other ultra-conservative regimes in the Middle East – is nothing less than the face of evil in the modern world.

They have nothing in common with our inner urban left other than shrieking “Death to America” on occasion.

Simply, you can’t win the hearts and minds of a regime like that who – if given half the chance – would unleash a second Holocaust on Israel.

All Israel can do is the best it can to defend itself and hope it can find partners in peace in Gaza and among the Palestinian people.

The people of Israel and Palestinians deserve to live in peace.

They both deserve better than Hamas.

    Of course not.

When a Muslim beheads a Buddhist in the South of Thailand, I assure you it’s nothing to do with Israel, but a violent cult which aspires to death.

  58. I have spent years trying to understand the root cause of the conflict in the Middle-East and it has little to do with the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

Indeed if it was, the Muslim ‘brothers’ of the Palestinians would have stepped up to the plate and not have refused access to the displaced Palestinians (whether forced or voluntarily [please check the repeated statements of the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem in 1948 to immediately leave]) to other Arab lands including Jordan who share the same ethnic heritage.

The Arab world certainly never stepped up to the plate when it came to financial aid either given it is the Europeans, Americans and Israelis who provide more aid to the Palestinians than their Muslim ‘brothers’. Damn those Western Zionist for their aid money to buy more rockets form Iran.

I think readers can safely assume for every one statement by an Arab Foreign Minister condemning the Israeli incursions into Gaza (if it were a Holocaust as some zealous commentators have reported Israel would simply have launched one nuclear weapon and spare itself any more Israeli deaths)there are two phone calls of support to their counterparts in Tel Aviv.

I would never have thought I would attribute the former Malaysian Prime Minister, Dr Mahathir to providing a reason – albeit convoluted and steeped in his typical racism – to the source of the conflict but here goes:

“Jews survived 2, 000 years of pogroms not by hitting back but by thinking. They invented and successfully promoted socialism, communism, human rights and democracy so that persecuting them would appear to be wrong, so that they may enjoy equal rights with others. With these, they gained control of the most powerful countries and they, this tiny community, have become a world power. In contrast, Muslims had been disunited and they should emulate the example of the Jews in the use of political and economic tactics instead of violence.”

I did place a caveat on Mahathir’s comments before quoting them. The comments are spiced up with a dash of conspiracy theory mixed with some good ol’ fashioned anti-semitism about ‘world control’ and the like. Kudos to a guy playing to his base. But cut through the Arab Street diatribe and you get to the source of the problem as acknowledged by a former leader of one of the more successful Muslim nations – jealousy and a total inability by the Arab world to understand why them? Why the poverty and gross inequalities of the Arab world with his oil rich lands compared to the glistening skyscrapers of Israel with no natural resources? How can it be when the Jews, who have suffered so much more, have somehow not only remained a united ethnic and religious community over 5000 years but have in fact moved from strength to strength?

Understanding the cause of the conflict in the Middle-East requires more than an examination of Israel’s military incursions; it requires an Arab world to start asking itself the tough questions and not attribute every problem to the West.

Well I have news for you: in this situation, some believe that Hamas are the terrorists, some beleive Israel government are the terrorists, and some believe both are just as bad as the other. Who is right? I doubt anyone can comment because you will never know the complete story on both sides of the situation, neither have you been in either Israel or Gaza’s shoes.

Nonetheless, everyone thinks their opinion counts. Sorry to break it to you: it doesn’t. I doubt anyone who writes on this wall are actually doing something to promote peace. So best to keep your opinion to yourselves than discriminate against a girl for having an opinion.
