UNLIKELY FRIENDSHIP: Perth buzzes with talk of Buswell & Carles

buswellcarles WA Treasurer and former Liberal  leader Troy Buswell has cultivated a close personal friendship with the Greens political party lower house MP for Fremantle, Adele Carles that some fear could blossom into a fully-fledged political alliance.

The busy Treasurer Buswell has been regularly sighted by curious on-lookers and gossips in the company of the attractive lefty Ms Carles in recent months, including during late night parliamentary sittings.

adele-2 Buswell attended – with other MPs – Adele Carles’ Christmas party last year, complete with serenading Mauritian musical entertainments and he reputedly jived the night away.

TXT BUDS
Since then the friendship has blossomed further with suggestions that Buswell and Carles very regularly exchange text messages, including across the chamber during question time and at other times when you’d expect Buswell’s mind would be on the job.

Buswell – a happily married man – was required to give up the party leadership prior to the last WA state election after a bizarre row over suggestions he’d sniffed the chair of a female subordinate. His wife stood by him during the crisis and Buswell was able to negotiate a very senior role in the Liberal team as his golden parachute. By all accounts, he’s doing an admirable job as Treasurer of Australia’s booming state of the West. He is regarded by WA industry as a very pro-development voice in government, views that normally wouldn’t attract the affection of the Greens party.

Carles’ backers worry about whether she can be re-elected in the strong Labor seat of Fremantle and hope that her close intimate rapport with Buswell will help ensure the Liberals don’t muck her about with preferences and give her a high place on their ticket.

  4. There is lots going on in politics of late -the Madden controversy in Victoria, the Rudd v Abbott debate, Gillard’s future leadership being talked up, elections in SA and Tasmania, union leaders tracking other members of the same union with GPS devices, a change in leadership at the ACTU etc etc, why are we worrying about this sort of pointless gossip (two MPs even from different parties hooking up hardly Robinson Crusoe territory is it?)?

  5. 1) Madden controversy – yawn. Big old building to be gutted and monster tower added thanks to the ABC, Sarah Farnsworth and ‘Big Red’ Josie Taylor, daughter of the Deputy Ombudsman

    2) Rudd v Abbott – worm won.

    3) Gillard – won’t ever be PM in our view

    4) SA & Tas elections – Just result in SA, some gossip around of Bartlett and Greens having a chat

    5) Lefties tracking down each other on GPS – good sport

    6) ACTU leadership change – yes perhaps it’s time we did something on that and the HSU mergers etc. Standby.

  9. The Rumour File the other day had a rumour that a state cabinet minister would be resigning at the Cabinet Meeting set for the Tuesday after the Easter long weekend. Anything in this?

  10. Didn’t they say it was Madden?

    Posted by The bopper | March 24, 2010, 14:53
  11. Most assumed it was Batchelor (long term governments tend to clear the decks of old wood)but he denied it on air with Mitchell.

The other suspect would be Madden in terms of getting rid of a Minister in trouble changes the story (eg: getting rid of the face of public tranport chaos with Kosky’s departure allowed the storyline to change).

and the Right is driven by pheromones and testosterone !!

A story replete with a conventional worldview – predictable suggestion,

other than the fact that, that is indeed one pretty hot looking ‘natural woman’ !!

    A happy engagement to all.

  22. Your kidding, Buswell is about the worst treasurer WA has had, he lost 210 million from the Health Budget he gyps the taxpayer by claiming a house in Perth that he own as his rental and his Busselton place as his principal residence.
