Brown told the Senate:
“If, sir, you, the president, or if any member of the opposition or elsewhere in this chamber believes that either Senator (Christine) Milne or I would take this political ambush, this unprecedented abuse of the privileges system, this failure of presidential prudence and a requirement for caution and legal level of judgment, sitting down or on the chin, you are wrong,” Brown thundered, oblivious to the clear anger on government benches.
I read today the Victorian Office of Police Integrity is corrupt. Big deal. I knew that all along. Any spy agency, crime or corruption body is corrupt internally. The issue is how corrupt. Is it so corrupt that it is no longer capable of doing its function? Generally speaking the more powers given to the body by the parliament, the more corrupt it is as the ability for proper controls and oversight are reduced. We give up our civil liberties too easily because we are motivated by fear and loathing – fear of terrorists, fear of organised crime especially drug lords, loathing of civil servants who get a beach house out of dodgy building permit approvals, hatred of jobs for the boys meted out by politicians for services or donations rendered, annoyance at a teacher taking two reams of photocopy paper home without permission.
Memo: write to my local member for Kew (the relevant Minister) and ask him to reconsider the considerable powers he intends to give his anti-corruption overlord body. It will be infested with the same crooks out of the Police Ethical Standards Department and dodgy investigators because they love the ability to abuse power and return favours for mates. The more powers you give them the more they love it.
Memo #2: Give someone the balance of power and expect the spifs to try to corrupt them. The Greens were not expecting all the attention they’re now getting so they feel special and are easily seduced. Write to my local Greens senator and remind him of the important public trust placed in him. Expect a trite reply about how pure the Greens are.
It seems the Greens have used the Victorian Office of Policy Integrity to check their moral compass.
Pity it’s really broken.
Corrupt Greens! What is happening in the world?
Brown has obviously taken lessons from the founders of the Green movement, East Germany’s Stasi.
The takedown by Liberal Senator Arthur Sinodinos of Greens Party Senator Rhiannon and her Soviet past was quite impressive http://tinyurl.com/6w4wcca
Investigate and be damned!
