HATERS TARGET SYNAGOGUE: “Boycott” protesters plan sinister raid on Jewish religious service

Vashtikenway

Australia’s Jewish community is bracing itself for a horrifying escalation by the “Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions” movement notionally against Israel but increasingly seen as thinly-disguised anti-Semitism.

VEXNEWS can reveal that a group led by former Melbourne University student union official Vashti Kenway has instructed its troops to take their Israel-hating protests to Adass Israel synagogue during the time it would have Jewish religious services, on Saturday February 25th. The protest is aimed at Rabbi Joseph Gutnick, a strong supporter of Israel, in whose honour the centre accommodating the synagogue is named. It’s worth noting the centre was built after the previous building was severely damaged after an arson attack in 1995.

Increasingly, Kenway and her band of protesters are blurring the lines between hating Israel and engaging in blatantly anti-Semitic protests. The move to attack a synagogue during religious services is the most blatant act in that direction we’ve seen across Australia.

Kenway’s protests have previously targeted Israeli-owned chocolate shops on the basis that some of their chocolate had been sent to the young men and women who protect Israel from those sworn to its destruction. Her behaviour was such that she and a group of comrades have been arrested and prosecuted for their riotous behaviour.

Sources familiar with the matter told VEXNEWS they feared the deep offence and confrontational environment created by Vashti Kenway and her noisy band of ultra-leftists (and apparently a sprinkling of the lunar right) could prompt violence between the congregation at the synagogue and Kenway’s loons.

The authorities can obtain further information about Kenway’s violence-incitement here and here.

UPDATE: Shock and fear has swept the congregation of the Adass Gutnick Hall after learning their synagogue could be the victim of an attack by an anti-Israel group. One congregant, Norman Rosenbaum has emailed his concerns to friends, revealing that Mr Gutnick himself does not regularly attend the venue, expressing fears the angry protesters may be become frustrated and violent at the congregation if the target of their enmity is not present.

He told friends:

Previous well publicised activities of these protesters at similar public protests is evidence of their non aversion to violence.

Rosenbaum makes a good point about the racism underpinning the exercise:

One cannot help speculating whether the decision to target the Adass Gutnick Hall was indeed deliberate, all things considered, as those attending are identifiably Jewish by way of appearance and dress – thereby providing a visual for media purposes which is far more powerful and direct to the general public compared to non – observant Jews and non Jews having a coffee at Max Brenner!

And he wisely suggests that other targets might be more appropriate for those concerned about human rights in the Middle East:

These protesters have been conspicuously silent towards the ongoing violence, bloodshed and abuse of human rights of recent times in Syria and Egypt. Perhaps, from a humanitarian perspective, the efforts of these protestors would be better employed in demonstrating outside the Syrian embassy!

SATURDAY UPDATE: We are pleased to say the “Boycott” bigots have, as a result of public pressure from VEXNEWS readers, backed off their plans to attack the Addas synagogue, which had previously been the victim of arson attacks. They have moved their silly protest to an office of a company associated with Gutnick. Just as stupid but much less harmful and destructive. Being concerned about the people of the Palestinian Authority is perfectly legitimate, although it’s interesting that those who suffer much more do not generate the same concern, but this sorry episode has amply demonstrated what we’ve always suspected that there is a hideous underbelly of anti-Semitism associated with those who wish to boycott Israel. Sometimes the enemies of justice act so stupidly they do all the heavy lifting for you, they make your argument for you, with startling and chilling clarity. This has been one such occasion. While credit is due for their decision to back off from their planned attack on a place of worship, it’s truly frightening to consider the hatred underpinning their decision to plan such an outrageous act and to announce it to the world in the first place. Vashti Kenway, hang your head in shame.

  4. From Wiki:

Queen Vashti (Hebrew: ושתי, Persian: وَشتی ) is the first wife of King Ahasuerus in the Book of Esther, a book included in the Tanakh (Hebrew Bible) and read on the Jewish holiday of Purim. She is banished for her refusal to appear at the king’s banquet, and Esther is chosen to succeed her as queen. In the Midrash, Vashti is described as wicked and vain.

  6. ***shock and fear has swept the congregation of the Adass Gutnick Hall***

What!? Be of good cheer, this is a golden opportunity. Video cameras at the ready, to capture Sturmbannfuhrer Vashti leading her Greenshirts to the synagogue. Upload videos to Vimeo and Youtube for posterity, so that when her (absurd) name is Googled, links to the clips result. For potential employers, Green branches, even personal relations, the sight of harridan Vashti, screaming hate at peaceful worshippers, will leave an unforgettable mark. Imagine if we’d had Youtube and camera phones, back when Lee Rhiannon was working for the KGB! Bring it on, Vashti. We’ll make you a star.

  13. What, now Vexnews is doing PR for BDS?

The first link you provided re Kenway’s activities led to an excellent summary of just how and why Israeli Settlers in Hebron are creating a toxic situation both for the indigenous inhabitants, the Palestinians, and for Israel itself. I thought you were pro-Settler, what gives?

  14. Good work BDS; keep the fundamentalist and racist right winger Zionist on their toes.

Now they will have to spend millions more on so called “security”.

Security jobs for pimply faced youths talking on walkie talkies at the gates of institutions but providing no real security as one member of the Jewish community said recently in the AJN.

Security which is a bit like the Aussie film “The Dish”.

  17. On the Shtick on SBS TV last Sunday(05 Feb 12) they had a story about the visit to Melbourne of the Chief Rabbi of the Commonwealth.

All well and good Rabbi Sachs seemed a nice fellow but then the compare (wearing a funny little 1960′s pork pie hat) asked Michael Danby MHR (Melbourne Ports) for a comment and Danby came up with this gem. “We now have more shluts?? (mini synagoges I assume) in my electorate than churches”. Both grinning the compare then said “How about that”.

Given that the Jewish population in Danby’s electorate is about 10% are we to assume that there are more misguided people that follow religion in the Jewish community than we largely atheist or non church going folk in the gentile community.

So what is the point of your comment Michael? Does it mean that your folk are more medieval or backward because they still follow religion which is all make believe mumbo jumbo?

    Posted by Adrian Jackson | February 10, 2012, 17:13
  18. This is why NO ONE can criticize Israel. You can criticise every other country in the world and you will not be called racist. Criticise Israel and the validity of your criticism is not tested, you are just called racist.

What about if we criticise the religious nutters in Israel who banish women to the back of the bus and spit on 10 year-old girls who are “immodest”? Are we anti-semitic?

Southwick had no Max Bremmer coffee shops in his electorate but that does not deter him.

I assume this petition will have as much affect as the compaints to SBS about The Promise TV series set in Palestine in the 1940′s – NONE

  21. This story goes to prove how Jew-hatred has nothing to do with the State of Israel. This is a Jewish house of prayer, not the Israeli consualte. Kenway and her cronies want Germany 1933 all over again. Boycotting Jewish shops in Germany obviously had nothing to do with Israel. Same here. (No one even knows if the Jews at this place are even connected to Israel.)
Why can’t they just be honest and say they hate Jews?? If it was really about loving Muslims/Arabs/poeple, they would go help the helpless in Syria and parts of Africa.

  22. Dear Adrian

I now know you think of me as medieval and backward because I believe in God and attend mass each Sunday.

That’s your prerogative and I am not offended by the comment.

However, I am completely disgusted by your continued attacks motivated by a paranoid racism towards the Jewish people of Melbourne. You really should tone down the bile spewing forth from your keyboard lest you end up being regarded by any decent thoughtful mature human being as a bitter and twisted delusional childish irrelevancy.

There was a time when you could engage in robust debate without resorting to personal abuse. Now you are so disengaged from reality that all you have to offer is a barely intelligible mimicry of Nazi thought reminiscent of Hitler in his bunker decrying the Jews for causing his pending defeat.

I will pray for your speedy return to the land of the sane. I am not hopeful that my prayers of intercession on your behalf will be answered in the absence of your contrition and reparation for your sins.

  26. Shirlee – hear we go again. Firstly many people know where I live, including Andrew who runs Vewnews. I am in the phone book and I use a real name and not just a first name like you – if Shirlee is your first name.

Zionism is a fundamentalist extreme right wing political movement and this is what I oppose. They are Fascists.

A Semite is a Asian race made up of Jews, Muslims and Christian (but not all) who live in West Asia (the Middle East as some call it).

While the Zionists don’t like the BDS activists it must be remembered that Melbourne and Sydney Zionist have often opposed visits to Australia from speakers from Palestine.

l remember some Zionist gloating a few years ago when the venue booked for a visiting speaker was suddenly unavailable when the Jewish owner of the building was told the speaker was from Palestine. So you see what turns around comes around to bit you.

  30. Jason Colonial – the international coffee shop owner Max Bremmer is an Israeli who provides aid to the IDF who in turn kill Palestinian women and babies after feasting on his chocolate Army ration packs supplements.

The young IDF killers get as high of Max’s chocolate and then get a high on killing women and babies.

The average IDF soldier is not particularly bright or well trained. These conscripts (they have to force Israelis to do military service) got a beating in South Lebanon in 2006 by Hezbollah.

So the Israeli Air Force then decided to bomb unarmed UN observers and civilians in Beirut instead including thousands of Aussies visiting at the time. The Israeli pilots would have to be the most cowardly people in all Israel after the tank crews and house demolition bulldozer drivers.

  31. Adrian

    It’s shul, with a small ‘s’ it’s not a proper noun

The correct grammar is “It is SPELLED shul”………… not Spelt, which is a proper noun. Which is an ancient strain of wheat.

I cannot possibly elaborate on it here. …however Jews ARE a race of people.

There are 67 different markers. it is even possible to say with complete confidence, which tribes some people are from.

    Posted by Shirlee | February 11, 2012, 11:38
  32. “Semitism” was a term invented by Wilhelm Marr in the late 19th Century to describe the “spirit of the Jew” – as he saw it, an intelligent and creative but malevolent presence that was not necessarily present in individual Jews, but was obvious in places where Jews were collected en masse.

“Antisemitism” derives from this. It was actually a badge of pride, self-proclaimed antisemites were people who were working to rid their society of this evil Jewish influence.

The word has almost nothing to do with the Semitic region or Semitic languages, it exists purely to describe the particular anachronistic and deranged view of Jewish influence in society that Mr Jackson seems to espouse so ineloquently.

  35. THE ENEMY WITHIN???? Assassinating US President Barack Obama for refusing to wage war on Iran is an opinion Andrew Adler wishes he never published.
But that’s exactly what the owner of the Atlanta Jewish Times did January 13,2012 and now he’s facing a chorus of vocal opposition and a Secret Service investigation.

“Give the go-ahead for US based Mossad agents to take out a president deemed unfriendly to Israel in order for the current vice president to take his place and forcefully dictate that the United States’ policy includes its helping the Jewish state obliterate its enemies,” Adler wrote in an opinion piece called “What would you do?”

    Oh bullshit.

It is when you DON’T criticise any other country in the world, yet you obsess over the only Jewish state, that you’ll get called, quite rightly, an antisemite.

Can you hear the silence about Syria? People go nuts when Israel shoots a few terrorists. When an Arab leader kills thousands, you don’t hear a peep.

As Thomas Freedman said: “Criticizing Israel is not anti-Semitic, and saying so is vile. But singling out Israel for opprobrium and international sanction out of all proportion to any other party in the Middle East is anti-Semitic, and not saying so is dishonest”.

    Dishonest much, Andrew?

  50. While this article is full of accusations, and lacks in facts or evidence, the assumption that anti Israel-apartheid protests are antisemitism in disguise, may be backwards. In my experience with anti Empire protests in the states, there is a deep understanding of the history of fascism in Europe, and the way that hate can feed a frenzy. Personally, I deplore racism but am deeply angered by Israeli policy, and cultural arrogance. Doesn’t the word “Israel” mean something like”the chosen people?” The author of the article is probably misinterpreting legitimate anger toward the racially biased and gross injustices occurring in occupied Palestine, as hate. Ignoring international pressure to address human rights abuses, Israel now faces a boycott, and Jewish communities abroad who support Israeli policies will inevitably be the focus of protest. This is not antisemitism but pressure on a nationalist group that imposes racist policies on another ethnic community. As for Syria, I don’t hear Israel jumping on the bandwagon for Arab democracy, considering the wave of Islamic parties being elected.

  56. @International Pressure,

As for Syria, I don’t hear Israel jumping on the bandwagon for Arab democracy, considering the wave of Islamic parties being elected.

Perhaps because the Israelis know how completely fucked the Arab-Muslim states are? Too bad the rest of the world haven’t worked it out yet.

The Israelis and Jews worldwide simply want to be left alone. Unfortunately the Jew-hating Arab losers haven’t realised yet that Jews aren’t so easy to fuck with. So they will keep getting their arses handed to them.

If the Arabs had half a brain, they would be desperately trying to emulate Israel, rather than trying to destroy it. However every time the Arabs are given a choice between prosperity or killing Jews, they will pick killing Jews every time, with idiots like Adrian Jackson cheering from the sidelines. Losers all.

The true Cardinal Pell is a decent caring human being who may espouse some traditional values that some find controversial.

Jesus Christ was controversial too in his day. His views founded on the traditional teachings of the prophets were not welcomed by the glitterati of the day – the scribes and the Pharisees.

Ah, the wisdom of God is the folly of men.

Mussolini was the leading socialist of Italy at the time, he split (surprising for the left I know) over disagreements over Italy’s involement in the war. He remained a socialist to the end. Mosley was also a prominent Fabian socialist. And of course National Socialism speaks for itself. We have people of great influence in the world and it is obvious that their allegiances do not lie with the country of which they are a citizen but with Israel. @ examples: The ex-head of the IMF is case in point. Mr. Strauss-Kahn was quoted as saying “As I wake in the morning I ask myself how can I help Israel”, the quote has not denied. We can look at the US FED. Every Chair since its inception except for one was a Jew. Why is this. I can go on but there is no need. It is not racism to question unbridled power in forums that will eventually lead to another huge and costly war (Iran).

  112. The second comment by Shimn was definitely more thoughtful than the first. Nationalism is a dangerous road, one I believe the Palestinians are taking in necessary response to the aggressive military nationalism of the Empire backed Israelis. This is a bit like our American Indian Movement here in the states, or La Rasa, an Hispanic movement acting in racial unity in resistance to human rights abuses associated with the US/Mexico border fence where thousands have died. Razor wire is violent. I suppose Jews are also similarly an ethnic group banding together in response to historic abuses. Abusing others in a similar way is not justified by this history, nor can the abuses by the Israeli state be downplayed in significance in the name of Nationalism. Israel needs to acknowledge the impacts of its presence on top of the Palestinian nation and begin to reconcile with the Palestinians rather than continue to act like they are God’s chosen race and expand further. Their’s is a radical sort of Nationalism which is beginning to resemble the Nationalism of the abusive state of which the Jews were a victim. “Lebensraum fur das Deutche Volk” I believe was the term used by Hitler to justify the conquering of lands surrounding Germany. Sounds like Zionism.

Israel is a special case. What other country has such influence on US foreign policy

Yes, yes… The Jews control governments and the banks. Heard it all before. Except here’s a new theory. Perhaps Israel doesn’t “influence” anybody, they are simply attractive. For example, given the choice between people danced in the streets who cheered on 9/11 (the Palestinians), people who were responsible for 9/11 (various other Arab-Muslims) or people who’ve created technology and training that saves American lives daily (the Israelis) who do you think the average American is likely to have more time for?

  126. @Dan Lewis: Yes.. Yes.. You have heard it all before. You are right, because it is true. You only have to do a little research to find out just where the influence lies in the US in every sphere of that society. I am interested because when one people, and it seems that most Jews of the world are “one” with Israel, then they become “the enemy within”, just like the editor of Atlanta Jewish Times did January 13,2012 in the USA that called for Obama’s assassination if he objects to starting a war with Iran. This is what happens when a people think they are invincible and “more deserving”. But the price is paid for this arrogance. In Melbourne recently we had an article lamenting the high cost of educating Jewish children because the cost of security, as well as the cost of security to other Jewish institutions.

I have conducted much research to find out when and why this hatred of Jews began. Well you know you can go as far back as you please and there it is. Expulsion of Jews in so many countries over the centuries running well into the BC era. I can’t be bothered writing much more about this because if you like you can read about it too.

What other race of people in Melbourne need this type of security?

So why is it that the Jews are not able to live as one with the other races around them?

Here is a clue. A Rabbi here in Melbourne said to a female friend of mine who is a gentile and married a Jew, “We lost 6 million to the Holocaust and 6 million to marrying out.” Talk about arrogance and how to be offensive to a mother – but as she has told me, after 30 years of marriage, the older/elderly Jews in the family still make derogatory remarks aimed at her.

And, I don’t have a brief for the Arabs, they have their own problems (most of their own making), but over the years the West has treated them very badly and still do to this very day, so people will react. But what do we want another world war to end all wars? That is what Israel wants more war (it’s a good way to make money). And their religious nutters want apartheid within Israel.

  141. Turkey – Armenian genocide

    Lebanon – endless civil war

Jordan – King Hussein massacres 20,000 palestinians during black September

    Palestine – executing gay men

Iran – 10 year war against Iraq

Iraq – gas attacks against Kurds

Egypt – regular massacres against Coptic Christians

All small examples of these “peaceful neighbors” none of which are connected with the Arab Israeli conflict

Are you familiar with any of these peaceful events Adrian? Or don’t you read books about events that don’t correspond to your pathetic point of view?

  144. @michael Burd: If Israel has the 2nd most educated people in the OECD (and I don’t dispute this) then they are acting either very stupidly in relation to their neighbours or they and the US have a secret agenda for the world. I go with the second option because I never considered Jews a stupid people.
