CHISHOLM: Vic Lib preselections for Victorian marginal sees John Nguyen win

Victorian Liberals are back in state government and are on the verge of having a federal election where they’ll pick up at least a few seats and possibly a lot more.

So even seats once thought very unlikely to change hands are attracting keen interest when it comes to preselections.

Tonight is the beginning of the Reps seats selections, after a bloodied, bruising Senate preselection battle about not much where petulant sausage roll feasting champion Senator Scott Ryan snatched and grabbed the #2 Senate position from the Greens-busting patriot Helen Kroger in a spite fight of great notoriety.

The Reps battles start with Chisholm, the seat held by Deputy Speaker Anna Burke, who is performing admirably as the fill-in Speaker while Speaker Slipper is dealing with claims from a source increasingly seen as dubious, if not devious and deceitful.

Sources familiar with the matter tell VEXNEWS the sometimes united Kroger/Costello group is supporting John Nguyen, an impressively credentialed partner at Ernst & Young who ran last time.

The Baillieu forces are believed to be backing opponent Nicholas Tragas, a Telstra exec and the former mayor and a currently serving councillor of Boroondara.

Many of Baillieu’s folk hail from the Burwood area, while those from Box Hill are aligned to patriot Attorney-General Robert Clark, seen as part of the Kroger/Costello grouping, with the numbers seen as reasonably evenly split.

Results will be out tonight. Developing…

UPDATE: John Nguyen prevails.

  7. He was the first to be eliminated. Blair Barker dropped out next, followed by Theo. Nguyen got majority in a three way contest between himself, Nick Tragas and Adrienne Fleming. Tragas came second, Fleming third.

  8. Apparently Tragas got done in on his arrogance and refusal to say if he would encourage his much touted donors (pledging $400, 000 apparently) to donate even if he wasn’t the candidate.

  9. Tragas is a joke. What an arrogant tosser. If he wasn’t standing one of the local candidates would have got up. Another Kroger cock up.

  12. I hear on good authority that the one an only Lorraine ” I didn’t hear the five shots as I was asleep ” Wreford, the lazy member for Mordialloc will not be per-selected to re-contest her seat at the next election. Sources very close to the brains trust and decision makers within the Tories are at this very moment sifting through varies candidates who will step in and fill her little shoes ( which really won’t be a hard job to fill). Wreford, since her election has been plagued with controversy since leaving the dysfunctional Casey Council where as Mayor, she assisted Sexual Predator and Council CEO Mike Tyler to cover up a sexual harassment case brought against the council boss by a former staff member a single mother of two. Wreford has since been further embarrassed by her drug dealing son known affectionately around the Berwick township as ‘refer Wredfor’. Refer as I shall refer to him was charged with possession recently and also welched on a debt to some bad boys to the tune of $
$5000 . Then shortly after her house in Berwick was fired upon with up to 5 bullets being shot into her house during which time Lorraine was apparently asleep and didn’t hear anything. Wreford is one of Big Inga”s little posse, the other include the now even more infamous Geoff Shaw the current member for Frankston, soon also to be replace, current councillors in the city of Casey, Geoff Ablett and Amanda Stapledon and Donna Buwar , the current member for Carrum who to be honest is doing a resonance job.
Poor Lorraine is going to find it hard to come to terms when she is told she will not be required. What will she do???

  14. The photo above reinforces the concern in the Liberal Party that the average of its members is 65 years old.

Although looking at the senior ranks of the union movement the ages appear similar

  15. Box Hill local you are obviously a costello/ryan/o’dwyer chap, but you obviously were not at the Chisholm preselection. I was, and if Theo had your bosses’ support, he would have won in the first round. Ask anyone who was there.

  19. Burke should be worried, Jonny Nguyen is well loved, the locals candidates that didnt get up will win a lot of booths for him so too will the state Lib MPs in the electorate…. expect to see more of the local candidates some serious talent there….word has it Burke is “over it” happy to take the dep speakers pension and call it quits..she also has such a big ego that she couldnt stand to go out with the punishment that is waiting for her….NO… NO…. NOT ON… LOCK THE DOORS …I’M OVER IT…

  20. The demands placed on candidates has seen the fields reduced to some limited and ordinary choices.
The real talent feels it’s too much of an impost.
Such a pity, as our nations leadership suffers as a result.
