By saving on chalet fees when he was Minister for Alpine Resorts, former Labor deputy Premier John Thwaites was able to service an impressive $2 million property in St Kilda West which is up for auction this Saturday, as brought to our attention by eagle eye Suzanne Carbone.
His successor in the leafy Labor seat of Albert Park, Martin Foley, who once delighted VEXNEWS’ then politically involved publisher by calling him “fat-boy” at an ALP preselection gathering many years ago after we’d cheekily challenged his identity, requiring Foley demonstrate that he really was Martin Foley before being given a ballot-paper, has been a far more pleasing and modest member, rigorously standing up against nasty anti-Israel loons who’ve attacked a chain of chocolate shops because they’re Israeli/Jewish owned.
We doubt the most definitely non-metro-sexual Mr Foley hits the slopes very often but if he does, he’d pay his own way. He’s a no-ticket, no-start kinda guy.

Actually I drive past Thwaites house recently and passed this story suggestion onto Lawrence Money who obviously wrote the excellent piece that Carbone placed into he column. Its his style of writing not hers.
Had I rung Carbone directly she would not have done it justice or not run it at all. She thinks I am misogynous male. I passed the story to Black & White in The Herald Sun too but I have not checked that paper yet.
There have been photos of the flooding on the wall of the nearby Cowderoy St Dairy Cafe (near the coffee machine) for a few years and guess who’s house is in the top photo.
I drove past the Thwaites house today and his “house boy” (I think his name is Ken Norling) was busy painting the front gate posts. Perhaps he obliterating the high water mark from the recent flooding.
Actually the auction is on Sunday 16 Sep 12 at 2pm not Saturday 15 Sep 12. The auction is listed at 37 Loch St, St Kilda West (cnr Deacon St).
The ALP gang of four sure look unrehearsed. The hunchback, the zionist, the tyke and the dago. They all look like beer drinkers not chocolate drinkers and you hold a cup by the handle boys. I wonder how many times they have been back to Max’s since the PR shot was taken 6 months ago.
Looks like the nuffs nuffs morning tea at Scope.
Thwaites Failed again. The house auction was a dud. 50 people were present, mostly locals.
The auction started, no bid, then after some time a vendor bid of $2 million, then no bids, then the auctioneer went inside to talk to Johnstone (Johns real name) and Melanie Eagle (his wife) and then he asked for further bids, one bid for $2,005,000 but Jeff Cayzer wanted $10,000 increments so the same bidder raised it to $2,010,000. The Edwardian house, with sometimes water front views, was then passed in.
Talking to some locals and Aviv Samuel (Gary Peer) a number of flats and houses in St Kilda West have sold cheaply recently.
Update – Thwaites house was sold to the only bidder in talks after the auction. The bidder was persuaded to make a slightly higher offer and John Thwaites accepted. I bet he and his wife were disappointed that they could not get more for the house but that is what happens when its in an area that is subject to flood from time to time. The economic down turn would also be a factor.
