ABBOTT’S PICK: Bronwyn Bishop to be Speaker after next election

VEXNEWS hears the most likely new Speaker of the House of Representatives if the Coalition wins the next election will be Bronwyn Bishop, one-time former Liberal party leadership aspirant and passionate supporter of the Australian hairspray industry, according to Liberal sources in the know.

She is regarded by most in the Liberal party room as the leading authority on their side – now Peter Slipper has departed – on the standing orders.

Others say the government should push through a formal proposal for an independent Speaker, which would not necessarily preclude Bishop but require her to leave the party room in the same way as the Brits require. To really lock in the arrangement, there’d need to be a constitutional amendment, perhaps one of few possible reforms that would survive a referendum (they rarely pass with the required majority of voters in a majority of states).

  1. She suffers from urine leakage quite badly. There will to be plenty of ‘Teena Ladies’ to get her through a tough session as Speaker!!

  2. Bronnie comes in to QT carrying her big book of rools, now and again she dawdles to the dispatch box and tells the speaker how Qt is to be conducted referring to her book of rools. Her hair is coiffed and sprayed, just to stop her face from caving in.

  3. John Howard headed off Bronwyn becoming Speaker after the 2004 election.
