Christine Milne snootily slams new Queensland Premier Campbell Newman as a “philistine”

Greens Senator, sixty-something Christine Milne is trying to rev up the Radio National crowd into a frenzy over Campbell Newman’s budget cuts. The period of goodwill for the newly elected hasn’t lasted long, with Milne seemingly convincing herself that Queensland is a cultural paradise now cruelly being put to the sword:

Actions of a philistine

Queensland Premier Campbell Newman’s cancellation of the Premier’s Literary Prize is another example of taking the state backwards in search of a quick buck, the Australian Greens said today.

“The great reputation Queensland has built in the arts, with its excellent galleries, orchestra and literature prize, is a vital part of what has made the state vibrant and innovative,” Australian Greens Deputy Leader, Senator Christine Milne, said.

“Clearly Clive Palmer’s priorities have become those of Campbell Newman and the promotion of creativity and innovation through the arts is sadly not one of them.”

“Campbell Newman is set to turn off solar dawn, pollute the Great Barrier Reef and undermine the arts.”
