KATHY JACKSON ADMITS CORRUPTION: HSU members’ money illegally used to prop up Jackson’s faction in union poll

Wackojacko450On last night’s ABC 730 Kathy Jackson made an admission of corruption that some of her media cheer-leaders will have missed:

CHRIS UHLMANN: So before all that happened, did you ever use union money to stack Labor branches in Victoria when you ran the number three branch?

CHRIS UHLMANN: Did you ever get money from Michael Williamson for anything like that?

KATHY JACKSON: Well there was obviously – elections were run and money was received. I don’t walk away from that. But more importantly, it was authorised by committees of management where money could be spent. So my concern is that what we’re talking about now is serious corruption within the union that goes to contracts and other things like that.

Let’s be clear what Jackson is admitting here.

Remember the VEXNEWS story that asserted the Jackson faction had received election campaign funds in 2009 from Mike Williamson? We didn’t specify whether the money had come from the union itself or from a private account controlled by Williamson.

We can reveal today that Jackson and her thug Marco Bolano have been charged under union rules by an HSU activist and Royal Melbourne Hospital operating theatre technician Daniel Govan with corruptly receiving monies from the NSW branch of the union to aid the Jackson faction in the Victorian branch elections.

It now appears Jackson, in typically garbled language, has admitted receiving money from Williamson for union elections and is claiming that “it was authorised by committees of management”. That suggests she’s admitting receiving money from the HSU in New South Wales to influence an HSU election in Victoria. This is a blatantly unlawful and corrupt act, for both giver and receiver.

Today, the Federal Court of Australia is contemplating an application by the Commonwealth government and by all other HSU branches to appoint an Administrator over the hideously ugly HSUeast, which appears riddled with corruption, malfeasance and hypocrisy of an almost breathtaking kind.

Jackson’s hypocrisy in this matter – and the gullibility or cynicism of some reporting on her activities – has been monumentally impressive. She puts the ‘me’ in shameless.

It’s for that reason we have decided to publish – with some redactions where we’ve deemed it appropriate – the charges filed by Daniel Govan recently that are yet to be considered the HSU Union Council.

Govan is – contrary to some reports – not involved in the ALP and has never been a member of it, unlike Jackson who has been a serial preselection candidate and long-time faceless woman on its Administrative Committee.

Here are the charges against Jackson she could face at the next HSU Union Council meeting, if she is not replaced by a court-appointed administrator soon.

  1. How about this ol’ chestnut .

i wan’t to democratize unions, i wan’t transparency , accountability, the working poormatter, this is not factional blahh blahh blahh (hang on where are the cameras?)

Yet Kathy actively sought a merger with NSW without the vote of her membership.(democratic?) She wanted the merger because of the parlous state of the Victorian finacials. She sought the merger in private talks with Michael Williamson where she ensured her outrageous remuneration (which i believe to be higher then that of an MP) is secured and signed of before elections. She went into this merger arrangement eyes wide open fellow “working poor” members. She has acted like a person who has carte blanche , and would like to ensure that continues that’s why she will be in the courts today vehemently fighting against the proposal to de-merge .

“This is not factional, it’s about corruption.”
Lot’s of people i know who haven’t lived under rocks or watch Sky news for facts , have a very strong indication otherwise. Perhaps her admitted close confidant Senator Feeney who possibly isn’t factional and other unions who she has been caucusing with for years to support & endorse ALP candidates are also “non factional” too. Kathy was going to support an administrator in her own time???? but because Bill Shorten took that drastic step “its a stunt” . Kind of better late then never Kathy huh if your sooooo keen to get the union cleaned up??

“i never wanted a seat i’m about helping the workers blink blink blink”

Why would you take a salary cut Kathy? Poor workers wages are alot less challenging , pity there still poor, ummm 20 years under your watch . (pssst cameras im over here)

“It’s a sad day for our union”

    You bet.

It’s ever sadder for all unions when you want them to mirror an ASIC model ???, hire union bashers HR Nicholls who offer you pro bono assistance ??? give every free kick to Abbot you can to impose probably what will be the toughest industrial sanctions he can muster against the “working poor.”

  5. Vex getting the priorities in order. Williamson sent millions to Access Focus up to September 2011. Access Focus has no address, no email, and no phone number, and has not had for years. What’s the latest on Kathy’s pool pump?

  7. Last federal election about $65,000.000 was payed out to SOME candidates to cover their election campaign costs provided they got 4%+ of the primary vote. Most went to the two major parties. This is both a wrought and discrimination.

The electoral matter committee is largelymade up of, if not totally run, by ALP and Liberal MP’s including former union hack Michael Danby ALP Melbourne Ports.

  9. Don’t worry about Jackson.
Williamson is in deep shit over his actions yesterday and I hope he has got his toothbrush and pyjamas packed.
And Thomson is a rolled gold five-star Olympic standard dickhead if he thinks he is going to do six months on the cross-benches and be taken back into the fold.
ALP career over … and it is going to be hard to campaign as an independent from Silverwater.

  10. I agree with Toad. The police were not happy with Williamson but how dumb was he for trying to remove documents during a police raid.

Thompson will go back to cleaning hospital toilets with his fellow HSU members.

  11. If Williamson and Thomson are (alleged) crooks they are rank amateurs at their craft
FFS ….. they had three years to :-
    a) Start a fire;
    b) Shred everything;
    c) Even eat the stuff with tomato sauce on it!

That Williamson was taking the stuff out himself speaks volumes.
I have a contact in the Victorian Plod end of the HSU investigation.
The intel yesterday was that Williamson had a locked three-drawer filing cabinet in his office, the contents of which he proceeded to decamp into plastic bin liner bags (Plod speak).
What is hilarious is that the slimy prick tried to get a couple of junior office staff to take it down the fire escape and get rid of it.
In true comrade fashion, they baulked and adopted strict ‘work-to-rule’ leaving Williamson and the feckless fruit ‘o his loins literally holding the bag.

And he is no mere union lackey …. he is a Federal ALP Vice President.
That sort of standing should get him a single cell I would think.

  13. Michael Williamson tried to bribe Kathy Jackson with a seat in parliament? Now what would make him think that someone like her would take such a grubby backhander? Surely not the money she’s admitted taking from him to run her Victorian elections? What a hide!

  14. Toad of Toad Hall. Youre not the only one with contacts within the VicPol. Yes, some of what you have stated is true, however, as you are obviously contributing on behalf of the Jackson-Bolano corrupt faction, what you either failed to mention or more precisely, what you are unaware off, is that the Victorian end of this investigation is next. I won’t say anymore as I don’t want to hinder the police investigation, and allow time for Kathy and Marco to remove any tainted evidence. Funny thing is, they may have already done this. What’s even more amusing if they have is…. Well let me just say……cameras are everywhere and have been for quite some time.

  16. Thomson doesn’t think he’s getting back into caucus or parliament. He would’ve quit parliament if he wasn’t being forced to stay.

Re: the actual article – it strikes me how ridiculous this whole mess has become when the accused are only now trying to destroy potential evidence in the middle of a police raid.

    Posted by Michael | May 3, 2012, 11:45
  17. Williamson and Thomson will be making number plates before the next election.

Whilst the baying ALP mob is chanting “Kathy is a Dog” other members of the HSU are quietly lagging away – on Williamson mainly (and Thomson to a lesser extent).

  18. The NSW HSU honcho who decamped with the documents and got caught by the police reminds me of a CHAOS baddie in “Get Smart” or The Joker in “Batman”.

TV should replace the “RPA” hospital documentary about sick people who are only going to die anyway with a drama about the HSU.

Then take a huge personal kick back from your mate at the company you bought them from.
And then just to make it that extra special, abuse office staff when she with all good intensions towards the members tells you she identified superior First Aid Kits from another company at a much cheaper price to the union

  30. This is a plea to Kathy Jackson from a long time member of the HSU. Totally agree that Michael Williamson should go and should have gone a long time ago. But please, think about all the members and tender your resignation. It won’t be a sign of defeat it will be a sign that you have done your job in uncovering the corruptive practices within the HSU and now you can leave with your head held high. If you continue on your personal war, I’m afraid you will end up looking like Michael Williamson and I’m sure you don’t want that.

  34. Ms Jackson was asked if, as national secretary, she would be involved in the mediation.

“Certainly, but I’m not going to be involved in mediation with Chris Brown and the national executive who have been out there smearing me left, right and centre,” she said.

“I hope to go to any mediation with a totally independent professional.”

I can’t believe the above statement from Kathy Jackson after a JUDGE no less ordered mediation between Kathy and Chris Brown. It just goes to show how arrogant and how out of touch with reality this woman is. No wonder all of NSW can’t stand this bitch and more than half of the Vic member can’t wait to get the opportunity to vote her out. That is if she isn’t charged before that time comes.

  35. Why would Michael Williamson offer Kathy Jackson “a seat for silence on her corruption allegations” some 4 months prior to her taking the allegations to the media – timing of the “offer” seems a little premature – or does Ms Jackson have her “FACTS“ wrong – AGAIN?

And why has this just come out now – it seems unlikely Kathy could keep anything for this long – or did she JUST REMEMBER?

    3 May 2012thetelegraph.com.au

Union chief offered parliament seat for silence

HSU secretary Kathy Jackson claims she was offered a seat in parliament in return for her silence on corruption allegations.

As reported Adelaide Now: May 03, 2012 8:54am

    Parliament seat deal ‘for silence’

HEALTH Services Union national secretary Kathy Jackson says she was offered a seat in Federal Parliament to “hush her up”.
Ms Jackson told Sky News’ Paul Murray Live show last night that she had been approached by HSU boss Michael Williamson last year and offered a position in Federal Parliament in return for her silence over claims of corruption within the union.

“(Mr Williamson was) asking me that, you know, he could organise it for me – and ‘don’t worry darl, I’ll make up the salary difference if you want to go’.

“I said to him, ‘why don’t you take it, if you want to go to Parliament why don’t you take it. I’m not prepared to go to Parliament, I’m here to represent my members.”
HSU national secretary Kathy Jackson says Michael Williamson offered her a seat in parliament if she ‘did the right thing’.

Ms Jackson said HSU boss Michael Williamson, who was ALP national president in 2009/2010, made her the offer in May 2011, but she didn’t even consider it.

‘Not at all. I said to him if he was interested in parliament, he should take the seat. I wasn’t going anywhere,’ she said.

Asked which seat she was offered, she said: ‘That wasn’t pinned down other than to say, ‘we’ll look after you, you do the right thing by us and we’ll look after you’.’

As reported in The Australian: AAP May 03, 2012 10:48AM

I was offered parly seat – HSU’s Jackson

HEALTH Services Union (HSU) national secretary Kathy Jackson says she was offered a seat in the Victoria parliament if she “did the right thing” by the union.

Ms Jackson said HSU boss Michael Williamson, who was ALP national president in 2009/2010, made her the offer in May 2011, but she didn’t even consider it.

“Not at all. I said to him if he was interested in parliament, he should take the seat. I wasn’t going anywhere,” she told ABC Radio.

  36. I’m told that money donated by MW to Kathy and Marco and thier ticket for their last election campaign came from a fund paid into by all NSW organisers. Apparently they deposit $50 each a week into a trust fund to finance future election capaigns. It seems that they donated some of this money to help the Victorians with thier election campaign. If this is true, this would be a big slap in the face of NSW organisers and obviously a hole in thier fund.

  37. Where O where was Kathy Jackson to be “given” a seat in Parliament? And how was Williamson to achieve this marvellous outcome for a woman of Kathy’s dubious character and pathetic work habits.

Fact – there are no seats available for Kathy at a Federal level – they are all taken or earmarked and the numbers are jealously guarded by the MPs/aspirants and their power broker supporters – Particularly in Victoria.

Fact – the number of Federal Labor seats will be severely reduced (and Labor apparachiks have known this for well over a year and a half)leaving no room for better aspirants let alone someone like Kathy.

    Perhaps a State Seat?

Fact – Kathy’s tried many times – no one will support her, too many know what she’s like and the last thing ALP members want is a self centred passenger who likes spending her time shopping at exclusive shops, particularly on subsidised overseas “study tours”.

Any self respecting journalist would put pay to Kathy’s latest make believe in short order. But it appears the “Tony Abbott” seal of approval is all some journalists need to become part of Kathy’s truthless spin.

  44. @ Pissed Member – go to FWA website – registered organisations – then look for annual reports – then check payments to officials (usually not divided up per official but you can figure it out by dividing by the number of full-time officials and assuming the Sec gets 25% more than the Ass Sec). On top of this there may be directorships of superannuation funds, although some unions require that money to be returned to the union.

Of course is they are also an official of the State registered union, you wont find those earnings there – but not an issue for Victoria – but may be for Mylan apropos HREA

Michael Williamson still earning .$380K + car + phone + secret credit cards + expenses + annual board memberships.
Peter Mylan at the moment $380K + car + credit card + phone + fuel card + board memberships
Gerard Haynes $280K + car + phone + credit card + fuel card + board memberships.
    Kerrie Seymour $180k – $200K + car + phone + credit card + fuel card.
Bruce Seymour yes husband of Kerrie $?pay not know but working for HSUeast in some capacity.
    Bob Hull $160k – $180K + car + phone + credit card + fuel card.
Daren Williamson $120k + car + Mobile phone not sure about credit card + fuel card.
Chris Williamson $80k+ and car + credit card
Kathy Jackson $280 + car + phone + credit card + fuel card + board memberships.
Marco Bolano $280 + car + phone + credit card + fuel card ?Board Membership

Peter Mylan as General Secretary $370K + car + phone + board payments + fuel card + credit cards.
Kathy Jackson $270K + car + phone + board payments + fuel card + credit cards.
Gerard Haynes $270K + car + phone + board payments + fuel card + credit cards.
Marco Bolano $270K + car + phone + board payments + fuel card + credit cards
Kerrie Seymour $270K + car + phone + board payments + fuel card + credit cards
Bruce Seymour (Husband of Kerrie) ?Salary and what capacity employed ?
Darren Williamson (Brother)$120K + car + phone + fuel card + credit cards.
    Chris Williamson (son)
    $90K + car + fuel card + credit cards

  50. Funding of political parties by the taxpayer (after a general election), by the unions 9 at election time and all year round)and by corporate donations (for favours etc)should be banned.

If individuals want to donate to a party or candidate then well and good but why would anyone in their right mind want to donate money to the mostly corrupt and incompetent political parties in Australia

  52. Union members and others should familiarise themselves with the Fair Work (Registered Organisations) Act 2009 it is a seperate piece of legislation to the FWA. It has sections in there designed to stop the kinds of rorts alleged to have occured in the HSU and no doubt other unions. Union members can apply for legal aid in order to enforce the law. It is hard in many cases however as in many unions they have stacked the managing council or committee of management, they are just full of lackeys doing as they are told. You would hope that the laws would act as a deterrent to the tossers, losers, crooks, and yes men who seem to lurk around some unions, usually the ones playing factional games in the ALP. I see a day coming in the not too distant future whereby lots of folk get to take the stand to explain their behaviour, I would imagine that much of the defence might amount to “because he told me to”.

Union officials can also be sued as individuals by members for improper use of members funds and resources, this is less common but once again I can see a day where the tossers who think they can get away with all manner of behaviour for their own personal ends falls foul of some angry members who just ain’t gonna take it anymore. The one good thing to come out of the HSU scandal would have to be a heightened level of education and awareness by union members (the few we have left); unfortunately it has also probabably provided justification for a new round of compliance measures in a revamped, relaunched Workchoices and the union movement and some of the crooks it provides employment for only have themselves to blame, frankly I would hope that as the union movement faces devastation in the not too distant future with a Liberal government that a lot of the crooks piss off and what comes out of the wreckage is a better union movement, independent of the ALP and no longer bankrolling preselections and suppporting people who would otherwise be in jail if they were not ‘union officials.’

While the ALP has become a millstone around the neck of the union movement many unions should hang their heads in shame and apologise for the calibre of politician they have sponsored into a safe seat! I can think of only a couple that have not gone this route: Cushy middle class life then into university and university politics out of uni into a Politicians office or into a trade union where their job is to shield the boss from challenge, then preselection. They never live in the real world, they never do real work, they never struggle and wonder where the next dollar is coming from. No wonder they hold union members and the average voter with absolute contempt. They really are a political class and they are not worthy of the people they are supposed to serve. Twats!

Hate to tell you this Jimmy, putting resolutions to your state council, having debates, having different speakers from different political parties is not a crime! I would say in this day and age it makes any union boss pretty intelligent, and yes jeez what a shock it’s done to get political influence. If only a few more union bosses were that smart instead of tying themselves to the ALP. Next, I hate to tell you this Jimmy, unless none of your allegations have been subject of resolutions and decision by the state council (and even then) it is not evidence of fraud, rorts, scams or anything else. You might not like it, but that does not make any of these alleged actions fraudulent or anything else but you will find that out in due course as all you do is rant and all you did during the election on this very site is rant about Mighell’s demise, then you shut up for a while and now your back with more baseless rants, hoping against hope that this time things will be different. Jimmy, they won’t as you well know you will get nothing because there is nothing to get. Being one of those people who believes everything they are told even faced with overwhelming evidence to the contrary you will no doubt pop up again and again and again. See you on the 16th Jimmy for another complete waste of time and members money.

Take away the speculation and the noise from Jackson’s media cheer squad and what’s left are allegations against her and Williamson which are in substance identical and which at this stage are unproven in any court. The difference is that KJs allegations allow the media to shake the ALP tree and bring down some fruit. The HSU is already off the branch and Jackson has now invited the NSW libs to the harvest festival. Let’s hope they all enjoy the festivities. ‘i’ before ‘e’ except after ‘c’.

So are you suggesting that the auditors that audit the ETU books every year, as all unions are audited every year, are corrupt? Or are you suggesting that they are incompetent and can’t count? Do you suggest that auditors chosen by the now not part of the CEPU NSW ETU Branch are ‘independent?’ Come to that are you going to have an ‘independent’ audit of the NSW ETU Branch…..oh wait you can’t can you, they are not part of the CEPU. Are you going to call for an independent audit of the Vic Plumbers or the Tasmanian CWU?……oh no of course not they make up the ever dwindling numbers. Are you going to call for an ‘indpendent’ audit of the National Office?…..Oops do we have a national office anymore? Like I said I think ‘Blind Freddy’ can see what this is really all about Jimmy. Good Luck with it all.

Jackson is only concerned about keeping the Union from demurring so she can put up her team and hopefully get the whole gig and the big piggy bank.
O’Farrel, Abbott and Jackson might have mutual ground at this stage, but if O’Farrell gets this up new infighting will begin between these three.

She’s smeared everyone at HSUEast not just the very few that deserve it. Some terrific work has been done for us by great organisers even while KJ was dumping on them without regard for the consequences to their bargaining power. Meanwhile the feedback from her own members in Victoria suggests they have been largely ignored by their own representatives. And she’s the hero in all this? I have no memory of any HSU member being asked what they would like to see in the EBA.
In the past we the members were invited to the EBA negotiations by HSU Officials and used our Protected industrial action when negotiations broke down between VHIA and the Union.

The ANF Nurses & Officials were the front runners this time round and secured a great agreement for their members by taking Industrial action and not backing down to government

    (1) This union has been operating as a private company with profits going to officials.
    (2) Union financial reports show our welfare/fighting fund account has a balance of $60.00.
    (3) Union members voted at a general meeting that a levy 10 cents per member be placed in this account.
This account had a balance of one million dollars before Jackson & Fegan became officials.
    (4) I will not contribute one cent more to this corrupt union.

I am advised by some workers to join HSAM who apparently set up a private company after the last election
to represent members who had resigned from HSU can any member of HSAM tell me if they are shareholders in this company or is it run for profit the same way HSU has operated for years.

if you think that union elections can ever be run democratically you are sadly mistaken. the ETU Elections-
the Vic CFMEU let the Vic ETU use their offices for out of hours phone calls. No doubt the ETU will return the favour when its the CFMEUs turn.
The Geelong office of the socialist alliance ( after a hefty donation from Mighell) allowed after hours phoning as well,9 we were ring Tasmania for the National campaign).
Workers down the DESAL plant were told they must have a turn on the phones or their jobs will be in jeopardy ( as well as being made to wear pro Mighell clothing). Members were told to bring their ballot papers to work so that the local organiser could “assist ” with the filling in.
There were shit sheets from all sides costing mega $. Mighell has been quoted saying it cost $ 1 million.

I recall this interview on the ABC. What struck me the most was a comment Jackson made that highlighted something I wasn’t aware of, but I was highly surprised that Uhlmann didn’t follow up on it (unlike natural disasters when interviewing Jules!).

Jackson stated that she had brought the issue of financial irregularities to the attention of the Union, but that they indicated, at that time, it would be left to the police to pursue the matter as it was already under investigation (she actually equivocates on this point).

What she is apparently saying is that she didn’t try to bring it to anyone’s attention until after it had become a police matter. Not exactly an image of full disclosure, is it? Could it be that Kathy Jackson has inadvertently admitted that she didn’t find her conscience until the cops start sniffing around…!?

Correct me if I’m wrong :)
