LAWRENCE OF ARABIA: Queensland minister-to-be Lawrence Springborg’s close ties with Syrian regime revealed

LawrencespringborgLifelong politician and senior LNP figure set to become a high-ranking minister in the presumed Campbell Newman administration in Queensland maintains close ties with the infamous and murderous Syrian regime, VEXNEWS can reveal.

Photographs obtained by VEXNEWS reveal Springborg is one of many Australian politicians who’ve supped with officials from the Assad regime. We’ll be publishing more of those in coming days. Both sides of politics will blush.

It’s not just the National Party who are adept at being able to hold their nose when dealing with the world’s worst kleptocratic and fascist regimes, all can take a bow.

But in Queensland, the former National Party leader and prize-duffer took it one step further than most, enjoying a lavish visit to the Syrian regime where he met many ministers there and also took time to meet with at least one “Chief of Police”. Privately, we hear, the conservative politician, at least until recently, would rave about the place and even now defends Assad, in private, to shocked LNP insiders who told us they are “sickened and disgusted” by his views.

VEXNEWS understands the regime was so impressed by the bloke many conservatives would be like Sir Joh but was a profound disappointment that they ordered a motorcade to herald his arrival into the national capital, Damascus. This clearly left a favourable impression on Sprinborg, who is thought to greatly miss his parliamentary chauffeur, cruelly denied him since Campbell Newman’s departure but soon to be reinstated, if published polls are to be believed about the imminent election of the first LNP government in many years.

After his journey, during his time as Deputy Opposition Leader, Springborg paid homage to the regime at its Embassy, posing with its then Ambassador and toasting President Assad, at last count responsible for the mass-murder of as many 10,000 civilians with an astonishing 100,000 protesters said to be in detention.

  1. Andy, did the ALP’s Dirt Squad provide any dates for this Syrian love-in? Because without a date, this stuff is pretty much valueless.

It’s pretty much valueless with one, too.

  2. Looks like the Syrian Embassy in Canberra –
Why would “Syria” be in English on a building in Syria? I think you have had your leg pulled

  3. ‘…. in an off-the-record background briefing, Queensland Premier Anna Bligh told journalists that Springborg had personally directed mortar fire onto a kindergarten in Homs, during a recent visit to Syria.’

None of your business, wise guy!

You must be one of those trouble making Web conspiracy theorists Mark Textor was talking about, this week. Listen up – if Chris Uhlmann or Mark Riley says that’s the way it is, then (Paul Anka/The Guys wear Shirts voice) then THAT’S THE WAY IT IS. Okay?

EXACTLY. Good timing too, because I’ve just accessed a leaked transcript from ASIS of an exchange between Danby, and his Mossad handler:

Star of David, here is Big Torah, repeat, Big Torah.

    This week’s list of instructions:

‘pick up milk, bread, ciggies on way home’.’

Whoops, wrong list! Will radio again same time tomorrow. Signing out, Big Torah.

  10. Gee … a choice between (a) someone who has had his picture taken with Assad and (b) the slanderous slag from Brisbane South.
I’m going with (a) on this one.

  11. Hey Anonymous, i hear you making anti semitic comments about Mike Danby.

Why are you too gutless to identify yourself?

  12. Hey Byron and Annonymous, the fact Assad massacred 30 000 people in Hama in 1982, and his son has murdered another 8000 in the last few weeks doesnt worry you.

Being a pair of ignorant bigots that you are, its not surprising

  13. Mrs Palmer has just visited Little Clive and now I see Little Green Men running around my bedroom. The Greens have infiltrated my home.

  14. Anonymous is actually the infamous Adrian Jackson, trying to cover his tracks as he knows the federal police is monitoring him should he drive past a Jewish school

  15. RT – No, I do not do anonymous but RT is anonymous isn’t it? I like the plebs to know what I stand for and think. I love batting the extreme right and extreme left too.

  16. That said I agree with anon comment about my local Federal MHR, permanent backbencher, and political failure Michael Danby.

I wonder what Danby thinks about the new Foreign Minister latest comments on Tibet and the Deli Lama?

  17. Let’s be clear – there is always someone prepared to make money out of turning away when the evil deeds are done and then pretending to be dealing with a civilised person.

We have plenty of Liberal Party members who love doing business with communists and murderers. The ALP has them too. They justify their actions on the basis of helping lift the most marginalised and disempowered citizens up via the trickle down effect of trade.

If a few get run over by tanks or shot in street protests, it is just a small price to pay for the benefits of economic growth which will lead to democracy.

I do not agree with this theory of international relations. Personally, I’d reactivate the assassination squads of the CIA and knock off a few despots just to scare the other bastards into acting more decently.

I know it isn’t in accordance wtih UN policies but that makes it all the more desirable a solution.

  18. If you were under the constant risk of being murdered or having your female family members raped and tortured by the agents of your government, you would resort to violence too.

  19. Mossad’s instructions to Michael Danby as relayed by Byron of Wahroonga read like my wife’s instructions to me. I didn’t know my wife had been trained so well.

  20. Sadrian, Michael is a failure, is he??
Look at him – elected to parliament 3 or is it 4 times, while you, not only failed at anything you attempted, but even thrown out of the Liberals for being the turd that you are.
