MAKING NEWS: Herald Sun picks up VEXNEWS yarn about Kennett Facebook group

baillieuowngoal The Herald Sun’s Nick Higginbottom has been infused with the spirit of VEXNEWS, patriotically re-breaking one of our stories from Wednesday about the “Bring Back Jeff Kennett” facebook group.

He embraced and extended the yarn, reporting on the presence in the group of the respected Luke Martin, a staffer in the employ of upper house Liberal titan Inga Peulich.

Proving that Facebook can be trouble with a capital T unless one is careful, the Herald Sun’s enterprising reporter has then investigated the individual “Facebook friends” of Mr Martin and found that they include former cabinet ministers and even Peter Costello himself.

Higginbottom has gone on to explore the situation where Ted Baillieu and his spokesman Simon Troeth has talked up a much smaller pro Peter Costello Facebook with The Age as an example of the perfidy of his factional rivals when it’s really an example of just how easy it is to establish meaningless Facebook groups. One of the largest of these is a group called “Sometimes I secretly want to punch slow walking people in the back of the head.”

Well worth a read.
