Are there laws that prohibit the free discussion of the merits of candidates? We certainly hope not.

Some – sometimes many – comments on VEXNEWS go beyond the pale but we err on the side of not censoring them, usually the most hateful of them reflect on the authors not on the targets.

And without going into it, our reference to the talk about candidates’ private lives had nothing to do with Fox, as anyone familiar with what went on in the last week or two would know.

So as any good law lecturer would say after you’ve made an assertion about what the law is, “what’s the authority for your proposition” that the law was broken?

It seems to us the only law broken was Senator McGauran defying the laws of political gravity to clock up his third decade in the Senate.

You might not like him or might have preferred Fox but you can’t question McGauran’s achievement. Very impressive.

In breach of Ross’ privacy, and without regard to the right he has to his good name, you took information which was not intended for the public realm and also deliberately took spin on it that was not just simply uncharitable…it went beyond that…

You also allowed people to go beyond tacitly speculating about Ross’ sexuality in order to influence the conservative in the party. No reasonable and responsible moderation occured.

I note that Ross suffered a loss tonight, that may be argued to have been contributed to by your actions and indeed failure to act.

I love the way that the excellent and superior experience and talent of Kenny is effectively glossed over, while statements are made about the lack of experience/talent and thus unsuitability of Fox.

Fox apparently doesnt have enough experience and Kenny has so much that it cannot be digested & processed by a few of the intellectually challenged, and so Kenny is given the consolation prize and rated as being good enough for a state spot (no offence to state senators).

The media will surely have field day with the blatant lack of merit and sexism associated with such a stance…So much for being a Party that has undergone reform and is about positive change.

This article and some of the commentary suggests that Julian has more of the right experience and talent than both Fox and Kenny — I find that amazing when I compare the background of each.

Surely, the incongruous and malicious thoughts made about alternative candidates on this page is indicative of at least one serious mental disorder. And, it just aint your garden variety sycophantism here…oooh nooo…it’s way more serious than that.

He worked for no income for over a year campaigning for Isaacs (a seat the Liberals were never going to win) when he could have been comfortably earning a nice big McKinsey salary instead.

Any fair minded person would see this as proof of his dedication to the Party. Only nasty factional types with their own agenda would try to insinuate that Fox’s proven record of commitment is something questionable.
