Self-important Socialist Lefty and Lindsay Tanner electorate office employee Onagh Bishop has embraced the spirit of April Fool’s Day by sending out an email missive to her comrades obtained by VEXNEWS promoting a Young Labor Left event on Israel and the Middle East. Naturally, the Bishop is keen to explore both sides of the conflict, those who hate Israel and those who really, really hate Israel is her idea of balance:
Michael Shaik – Full time public advocate for Australians for Palestine. Michael specialises in the history of the conflict and the current situation in Israel and the Occupied Territories and will be available for questions and answers following the presentation.
Lisa Arnold - Lisa is a Union Aid Abroad (APHEDA) Project Officer and has worked in project management roles abroad in the Occupied Palestinian Territories. She currently manages the Union Aid Abroad Middle East programme.
Should be a lively debate as speakers and audience compete in the old Lefty sport of enthusiastic nodding and practice for years in Parliament by loudly declaring “hear, hear” at every denunciation of Israel’s democratically elected government.
They’ll ignore the fact that practically every prominent Palestinian leader is either corrupt or a froth-at-the-mouth fascist and anti-Semite or all of those, that Israel has one of the strongest free trade unions in the world and that Israel is a prosperous, open and democratic society just like ours. The Young Labor Left – desperate for the lefty cred they lost doing Lindsay Tanner’s photocopying – want to express solidarity with the underdog, no matter how misogynist, violent, racist and militaristic. How far the Left has fallen.
While all of that is yawn inducing enough, it’s Onagh’s self-importance that shines through as a beacon of hope for even the most oppressed of Israel supporters. While she talks the Lefty talk, she is in fact rather desperate to be climbing the Mark Latham psycho-tropic Ladder of Opportunity.
Check out her signature that appeared on an email missive instructing comrades to attend the “Death to Israel” shriek-fest:
Clearly a very important person.
I heard Australians for Palestine (i.e. Michael Shaik) speak once – don’t ask why.
They handed out pamphlets chastising Israel for its “apartheid”, and used the most questionable of statistics in their presentation.
They said Israel is to blame for the rise of Hamas, then claimed the mass media was controlled by the “intimidating Jewish lobby”.
My favourite bit was when they used photographs of open sewerage vats in Gaza as “proof” that Israel oppresses Palestinians.
The two that came both drove $200,000+ European cars with Palestinian stickers on the bumper.
And these guys get top billing at a Labor Left event?
Why do they insist on training their caucus to become unreconstructed socialists, then wonder why they have trouble keeping the fringes of their caucus intact come NUS?
Ditch the far-Left advocates and stick with Carlo Carli.
Don’t forget- I was totally school captain(elected) in grade 6, too!
Strike back, the Khoo will
