PATRIOT RETURNS SERVE: Finn salutes vast VEXNEWS audience and outlines plan to break union militant Deano Mighell’s heart

Patriot Liberal upper haus member Bernie Finn has fended off many an insult but it appears he was truly stung by being held to account by VEXNEWS for his highly out of character frolic to the Left where he went overboard in defending militant union financed political candidates in Parliament the other day.

Finn is regarded as one of very few state Liberal party room figures who can connect with Howard’s battlers without looking down his nose and discussing the human rights situation in West Papua (no offence, George Brandis or nancy boy Member for Ferntree Gully Nick Wakeling).

High praise indeed and perhaps a reference to our consistent coverage of his current party leader Red Ted Baillieu, who Wakeling has pledged to protect from those who want to take the leadership, like Mulder, Napthine and Wooldridge.

Wakeling occupies a notionally marginal seat (that should be strongly Liberal and would be under any other leader) but is every chance of losing it should he continue to support the values-free leadership of a man well to the left of many of his parliamentary opponents. And a man whose thuggishly inappropriate approach to factional politics has won him many enemies in the Victorian division, some of whom occasionally feel the need to share their thoughts and secrets with us.

Baillieu is perhaps the worst Leader of the Liberal Party in Victoria in its long and distinguished history. It is said by free-talking Liberal staffers that while Red Ted enjoys the support of a current majority of Liberal Lemmings of the Left in Spring Street, Bernie Finn is not one of them.

IS THERE SOMETHING WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE?
In that context, surrounded by nancy boys and weak-crowing soft coqs like Nick Wakeling, the Finnmeister was somewhat taken aback by the reaction of the ever-growing army of VEXNEWS patriots to our story this week on Finn’s own bizarre support of a candidate in the Kororoit by-election who accepted over $100,000 in cash and in-kind support from Dean Mighell’s Electrical Trades Union. Finn justified all of this on the basis that he was friends with the man, currently hospitalised and we hope on the mend.

Finn’s remarks were silly and completely glossed over the association between the failed Kororoit candidate he praised and his ties with the militant union, the ETU. It came as his lower house comrades were lavishly praising solar energy, the Australian Greens and shedding a tear for enviro-millionaires in Chirnside Park who had put up their hand for $56,000 of taxpayer money to subsidise their affluent lifestyle.

Call us old fashioned, but it’s not really the kind of stuff we expect to see from the party that – for all its faults – once planned to outlaw the Communist party, successfully banned the scourge of compulsory student unions, famously sided with timber workers over Greenists in the 2004 federal election and stared down organised criminal people smugglers by telling the world that it was the Australian government alone that would decide who came to this country and the circumstances in which they come.

In a good-humoured email we received yesterday, Finn notes the reaction to our story, points out that he regularly verbally spars with Mighell the militant and even plans to single-handedly take care of Mighell using the power of his well-honed arguments always expressed in dulcet tones.

If Finn tag-teams up with Mighell nemesis ALP MLC Shaun Leane, who got preselected on Mighell’s votes then proceeded to regularly denounce him from the red morgue and even reported the tight-jeaned militant to authorities including ASIC, it could be quite the rumble in the jungle.

Andrew,

I had no idea how all-encompassing your readership is! If every punter who has come up to me in the past 24 hours, falling about laughing – pointing and calling me a lefty, bought me a beer I’d never have to visit the bottle shop again!!!

What you failed to mention was my spot on Neil Mitchell’s program every fortnight with Dean Mighell himself. I’ve come close to causing him heart failure a couple of times. I’ll keep trying.

Mate, yesterday you outdid yourself. A classic! I may have to get it framed!
