REVEALED: Tony Nutt reveals internal Lib candidates after VEXNEWS campaign for freedom of information

After a week of sitting on them like a mother hun sits on an egg, Vic Lib state director Tony Nutt has finally released the nominations for State Council.

Huzzah! We could barely contain our anticipation any longer.

His decision came as a rising tide of outrage, expressed on these pages, seemed set to engulf Old Man Winter state President David Kemp and Nutty who both served as Chiefs of Staff to Prime Ministers and take great pride in keeping secrets tight as a drum.

Well here they all are. Click hereto see the spreadsheet of the nominees.

  2. I though I was doing rather well at 1 Treasury Place where everything is unravelling.

But I’ve decided to move back to the dank sewers of 104 Exhibition Street where, I’m told, there are heaps of involuntary bowel movements! Big Ted should be handing out Mint Juice and Imodium caplets to senior staffers.

  3. Some interesting contests, especially in light of the preselection battles.

Andrew Burnes replacing Julian Glynn as Treasurer – will AB be the same behind the scenes operator as JG? Where do his loyalties lie?

  4. Why isn’t Max Powers running for Metro VP?

  5. Information flows at 104 have really suffered since the premature departure of Susan Chandler.

The nominations list would have been selectively leaked weeks in advance if she were still running things.

  6. Yeah. Right.

I hear Susan is again consulting to the Libs through her own Business.

    Can anyone confirm?

  7. the Liberal Party is not longer a political party , it is a social club that runs a book club and speakers group.

  8. Krogerites will reign supreme, even with PR voting.

Expect two or three of Jeffistas to get on to Admin and about a dozen on to State Assembly.

  9. Who are all these people? I have never heard of half of them

  10. I haven’t heard of the other half. Where does that leave us?

  11. Brendan Rowswell, Mary Aldred and Miranda Airey-Branson – such talent the Liberal Party has

  12. Interesting article in the Wall Street Journal on Ruddonomics being circulated by Jeanette Milnes who is running again for Admin.

  13. What’s clear from the Admin contests is that the Kroger-Costello mafia is really on the wane – but it’s not as simple as the Baillieu gang taking their place.

  14. Let’s face it, the likely result for the Admin elections will be:

    President – David Kemp
    Treasurer – Andrew Burnes
Male Metro VP – Tony Snell
Female Metro VP – Sandra Mercer-Moore
Male Country VP – Andrew Ronalds
Female Country VP – Robyne Head
Male Metro Admin – Ross Fox
Male Metro Admin – Tim Wilson
Female Metro Admin – Georgie Crozier
Female Metro Admin – Caroline Elliott or Jane Hume (unclear)
Male Country Admin – John Renyard
Male Country Admin – Angelo Kakorous
Female Country Admin – Michelle Challis
Female Country Admin – Bev McArthur

  15. That is, without doubt, the most awesome line up ever! How on earth are we in opposition with that sort of talent running the show?

  16. So the guy who was on the SAME ticket as Peter McMullin now wants to run the party.

    Ummmmmmmmm …. ok then

Posted by Peter McMullin for Admin | April 26, 2009, 15:52
  17. Just so there are no mistakes here … Peter McMullin is a member of the ALP.

Posted by Peter McMullin for Admin | April 26, 2009, 15:57
  18. Just so there are no mistakes here … Robert Doyle was also running. And Robert Doyle is a member of the Liberal Party. And Peter McMullin was the ALP candidate running against him ….

And this guy wants to be on ADMIN!!!!!

Posted by Peter McMullin for Admin | April 26, 2009, 15:59
  19. WAIT WAIT WAIT … Just so we are absolutely clear. Peter McMullin = ALP. Robert Doyle = Liberal. Tim Wilson joined the ALP ticket. Tim Wilson campaigned against Liberals. Tim Wilson campaigned with the ALP. Admin Committee = most important body in the Liberal Party. Objective of the Liberal Party = defeat ALP.

Posted by Peter McMullin for Admin | April 26, 2009, 16:02
  20. There are no politics in local government. That’s consistently been Liberal Party policy. If Tim Wilson wants to be Deputy Lord Mayor with McMullin he’s running as an individual, not a Liberal.

If the Liberals endorsed candidates Wilson could not have run with McMullin and Robert Doyle would not have been elected Lord Mayor. McMullin’s preferences would not have been able to go to him, at least not according to ALP rules.

Also Jeff Kennett would not have been able to have had Diane Anderson as his campaign director if he ran. He saw the light and gave her the flick anyway, as Vexnews exposed her as a fruit loop. Then Kennett decided not to run, as word got out about his failed attempt at promotion for Diane. Peter Costello is Diane’s best friend, as she leaked to him on a regular basis. The Krogerites are more fans of Diane than Red Ted. Pity no one told Jeff that a bit earlier.

  21. Actually, if you know the details of the final Melbourne City Council elections it was Wilson’s preferences that got Doyle elected and stopped Catherine Ng. If Wilson hadn’t have required his team’s preferences to go to a Liberal, Doyle wouldn’t have been elected. Considering Doyle and Wilson don’t get along, it is quite ironic.

    Posted by Anonymous | April 26, 2009, 18:23
  22. Don’t you mean Andrew Katos for Male Country Admin? The other bloke is a three time loser.

    Posted by Wrong Greek | April 26, 2009, 19:07
  23. 18.23 is correct about the preferences from Wilson and McMullin electing Doyle rather than Catherine Ng. A lot of horse trading takes place in preference negotiations. Its rather like the ALP negotiations in Darebin, where people who hate each other in various sub-factions of Labor Unity end up preferencing each other to secure seats on the council.

McMullin rather than Wilson probably had the biggest say in the Lord Mayoral negotiations. The object is to win and deals with the devil are often a way to achieve this. An example is the ALP preferencing Fielding from Family First rather than Risstrom from the Greens. The object was not to elect Fielding but to secure a place for Jacinta Collins. It didn’t work. Similarly the deal with Doyle didn’t work and Doyle won instead.

    Posted by Anonymous | April 26, 2009, 19:25
  24. It didn’t matter whether McMullin Wilson preferenced Fowles ahead of Doyle and Ng. They didn’t, but had they the preferences would never have been distributed as the Will Fowles-David Wilson ticket polled below eaach of Doyle, Ng and Wilson and its preferences went out early. There weren’t enough votes for Fowles to make a difference in the final result. It was the McMullin preferences to Doyle rather than Ng that made the difference.

  25. it was splitting the ALP vote that let doyle come up the middle. timmeh helped do that, so he’s some kind of accidental liberal hero if you really want to stretch the definition

Posted by Astounded of Melbourne | April 26, 2009, 20:36
  26. HELLOOO????? Justify it all you want. He ran on the same ticket as a member of the ALP. End of story.

    Posted by Anonski | April 26, 2009, 20:43
  27. Any one who knows anything about the bizzare nature of Melbourne City Council elections knows that people from both sides of politics team up to run together. McMullin and Wilson were not the first. They were just the first to do it for people from both parties in the leadership team. And suggesting Doyle is some sort of Liberal hero is absurd. The number of other Liberals that Doyle helped elect was zero. A big fat, zero.

    Posted by Anonymous | April 26, 2009, 21:36
  28. Big deal? A lot of candidates would have run on tickets with ALP members/activists in student politics days.

    Posted by Anonymous | April 26, 2009, 22:44
  29. Why so mean to Timmeh? He runs a great Book Club.

  33. It is very important that I am consulted during this process as I am quite literally a giant in the Victorian Liberal Party. Also, my votes are available for purchase with delicious snacks, pastries and other tasty treats.

  35. My dear boy, a great poet once said, ‘my milkshake brings all the boys to the yard’. An equally respected and amply proportioned wordsmith made the statement ‘I don’t think you’re ready for this jelly’. My point is, if you are not laying the foundations for bribing me with delicious treats and deep fried treats, I have no time for your flattering comments about my alluring booty.

  36. What is wrong with being friendly with ALP-types.

I have crossed the floor to vote with the ALP.

I have also been made a Director of the TAC and now a Trade Commissioner in San Fran by the ALP.

  38. Why the politically mean-spirited choose politics or why proponents of the law of the jungle wish to run for Admin in Menzies’ Liberal Party is a mystery. They will continue to marginalise us.

The only answer is to appoint true upholders of the Menzies Legacy to positions of power – starting with me.

Onward to Victory! 2002 was just the beginning!

  39. Honeys…

If you are a member of the Conservative parties (Lib/Nat) and were hoping for change… reflect on the list of candidates and think again.

These people are not honeys… they are entrenched right wing conservatives or they are in small minority, a group of captives to the right who claim progressive cerentials… they are “anti-honeys” and “anathema”.

Progressive voices… I plead with you to come out of her, my children. The Liberal Party is no longer liberal.

  40. I am in my 20’s now, and still rejected by my father, McPerton.

He claims Jaynes child Ted as his “first”… Such a lie.

I will not join the ranks of the socialists for money.

  41. Never mind what colour they are: some State Lib policy would be a refreshing change. When will this be?

  42. Andrew Burnes is well known as being a former John Howard man through and through – though he has had some links to Costello. He is also close to Turnbull for whom he has been a fund raiser and has had business links. Burnes replaces Glynn who was a Costello man.

Most of the other admin likely winners will be alligned with the Ronno-Turnbull group.
