A blogger has revealed China’s government falsified the age of a fourteen year old gymnast to increase her age to the minimum age required to compete in Olympic competition.
Mike Walker discovered two documents listing her correct age as 14 from Chinese government websites that had been removed but retained by the useful yet pesky Google cache.
Hilarity ensued.
The International Olympic Committee were not laughing. They are instead investigating the circumstances of the Chinese government recording different birth years. Some believe they are guilty of doing this systematically with multiple athletes.

I don’t really care about her age. She won, fair and square and got the best score.
In four years she will be even better, and I think London will be an even greater medal hunt for the Chinese.
Frank says “I don’t really care what the rules are. And I don’t care that the rules were made to prevent abuse of children. All I care about is being wowed.”
Frank, you’re a moron.
Thanks! But I like to think that I am a moron that might be able to think more than just black and white about different topics.
If the girl enjoys doing gymnastics, thinks she has a good life AND are given the chance to also be a child, then I don’t see any reason for her not to compete in the olympics or anywhere else.
If she’s forced to do this, then of course that must stop, but that is also relevant if she’s over 16.
You won’t stop abuse of children with a 16 year age limit in the olympics.
Young children are competing all over the world in schools, in games and a whole lot of other things all the time? Do you want to stop giving grades and feedback to students until they reach the age of 16?
Now go and pump up your oil to make the world a more unpleasant place to live, not only for chinese children, but for all. Good luck in doubling the oil supply in a few, short years.
