STACKS ON: Financial Review hints at cross-factional deal to remove George Seitz

finreview

The Weekend Australian Financial Review reports today:

The Labor Party’s national executive may be asked to run preselections for state seats in the western suburbs of Melbourne to try to defuse factional tensions before the election next year.

VEXNEWS: Some say this is code for a cross-factional and multi-sub-factional agreement that the member for Keilor George Seitz be encouraged to retire after he celebrates his ten thousandth day in office in December this year.

It is widely believed that the wily MP has been told by sub-factional brethren like Senator Feeney that it is “unsustainable” for him to continue in the Parliament. Although there are competing reports as to the level of disclosure made to Seitz on this issue. We’d like to think a person of his lengthy service is treated respectfully by his allies and colleagues. He deserves that.

A scathing (VEXNEWS: more like scatological) Ombudsman’s report into improper conduct at Brimbank Council revealed the poisonous factional dealings between Labor MPs and party figures in the western suburbs. (VEXNEWS: And very little else)

The factional warfare that prompted the Ombudsman’s investigation was sparked by the preselection contest last year for the state seat of Kororoit.

The Weekend AFR (VEXNEWS: That is quite a mouthful, is there a longer masthead in newspapers?) understands key members of the left and right factions – headed by Kim Carr and Bill Shorten respectively – are backing a proposal to have the national executive manage preselections in the area to lessen the local heavyweights wield through their branches.

VEXNEWS: Again this is code for no-one can beat George Seitz, no matter how central arrangements are configured.

Backers of the deal also want preselection for the federal seat of Gorton, held by Brendan O’Connor, taken of state hands.

VEXNEWS: That’s a weird declaration as there won’t be a contest in Gorton given that O’Connor is a federal minister and has done nothing to offend local party members or anyone else.

The national executive ran state preselections for upper house seats before the 2006 election in a move that created tension at branch level. Insiders said such a step must be approved by the state administration (sic – it’s the Administrative) committee and agreed by the executive.

The committee is expected to meet on Friday to consider opening nominations for all federal and state seats. The proposal to refer the process to the executive is not on the formal agenda.

Former committee member Eric Dearricott (VEXNEWS: You really can’t keep a bad man down) said referring the decision to a national level would not solve the problem of branch-stacking in the city’s west.

VEXNEWS: Dearricott championed draconian rules that mandated expulsion from the ALP for branch-stacking. Those rules are still in place. He conducted witch-hunts and investigations into it. And found nothing. But his search for vindication, despite being dumped by his own supporters from the ALP Admin Committee continues.

  1. George Seitz is a respected and loved MP. He serves his constituents well. Any move to discipline him is a disgrace.

  2. Those Ministers like Gavan Jennings who support the EPAs Stasi operation are much more deserving of the boot then George Seitz.

  3. The non-aligned group within the Victorian ALP, the faction that says it’s not a faction (to quote Diane Anderson)are very small numerically and are not likely to be influential on this issue.

  4. Brumby needs to clear the decks, put in some talent and get rid of useless stackers and benchwarmers.

    Marsha for example.

  5. Please don’t tell George he’s been dudded by those who promised him the world in exchange for backing Kairouz.

  8. Didn’t you promise dargavel had zero power. Looks like he was much smarter than the low fizz collective brainpower of the shortcons and their socialist slave masters.

Dargavel is now the leader of the Left unions not a politician. Boo hop CarrKosmosGilesGriffin you’ve killed the SL by being too clever and scheming by half.

    Count the cost.

It is time you jumped on this next bandwagon Andy. While you can, your sources are about to be made extinct.

  9. Another betrayal for the shortconned will come from the ETU. Mighell knows what Shorten says behind his back. Mighell will not support the shortconned while shorten takes it up the backside from earl dry retches.

  10. Brumby has given the nod: Newnham gone with payout by June 30. The game is over. We need a professional head office to win in 2010. Samaras has to leave too. He’s lost control of the left unions. Loser. How does he pretend to be a faction boss with no faction. Cockhead.

  13. I’m confused – is a national-level decision on Brendan O’Connor sought to keep him in or get him out?

I would have thought that as a mate of Juila Gillard’s he is relatively protected?

  14. No contest in Gorton is expected nor in any fed seat unless Jenkins or Thomson quit. And no expectation of that. Kelvin will stay forever waiting for rehabilitation. Tony Mokbel will get out of jail sooner.

  15. This AFR report is about four days behind. The deal makers went to see Spring Street earlier this week because they knew that they were in trouble with the other side joining forces. They wanted the ok for national intervention to enforce their deal.

    They were rebuffed.

No doubt they are still telling people that the deal will stick.

    This is false.

The deal cannot stick now that non deal forces have signed on together. That is the message that Spring street delivered. They quite rightly refused to agree to the last in a series of losing moves.

The deal is gone, and everything will need to renegotiated, probably as early as this week.

Shorten and Conroy have gambled and lost. Carr and Griffin have been shown to not be able to deliver, and now there is a question mark over both of them, for the only thing that is holding them where they are is the false claim that they control thirty percent of the Victorian Labor party. Shorten will live on as he has talent. All their underlings will need to assess where they are at. Starting with head office, and moving on down through federal seats, then state seats. In the end, Shorten, Conroy, Carr and Griffin have played and lost.

  21. Georgie Seitz is the ALP’s skidmark of the Western Suburbs. As vindictive as Saddam Hussein was to anyone who dared question him or have an alternative view. It’s time that this symbol of corruption takes the path to extintion and follows the same road that the Suleymans are destined to travel. Even when he is gone the stench will remain for sometime via his puppet supporters in Brimbank Council. If George was given a salary based on maximizing corruption and minimizing performance, he would be one of Australias richest men. Going…Going…Almost Gone!

  22. THe Suleyman family and George Seitz are all ‘dogs’ of the highest order. This group of corrupt neanderthals through their corrupt and greedy actions have most propbably caused numerous staffers for MP’s & Ministers and who happen to also be Councillors for various Councils around Victoria to loose their jobs or resign from council. This decision, either way you make it, will effect the families of these particualr people. George Seitz ought to think about leaving the state if indeed this does happen as I am hearing several people who are affected by this, have been making plans for payback !!!!!

  24. “Mighell knows what Shorten says behind his back”!!!!! We know what Suzzana says behind his back “take it bitch, take it”. Its a shame the she-mighell doesn’t know what everyone in every faction, every subfaction and every union great and small is saying behind his back, that he’s the biggest insignificant fraudulent tosser in the (at least)southern hemispere

  26. Calvin,

I suggest you pull your head out of your own arse and wise up to what a dishonourable man George Seitz is. The Sooner the ALP dump this pathetic excuse for a parliamentarian the better. Or, what would be a far better result is for this cretin to resign and show some remorse for the shit he has caused a lot of people.

  27. George Seitz is the only one that can ever be corrupt demanding he got his way with people former Mayors such as Brooke Godenavic Charlie Apap. Seitz and the 2 drove out in the Mayoral car to Geeelong to check out the “rental house” the list goes on, using his electorate allowance to run elections campaigns…. the only dog is George Seitz useless member did nothing for all those years other than cause trouble and now responsible for staffers losings their jobs!!!

    Posted by Anonymous | May 25, 2009, 14:29
  28. Calvin, Calvin, Calvin….(or should I call you “Georgies Mini-Me”. You are so disengaged from reality. George is loathed and hated amongst his constituents. Years of corruption and lies have not gone unnoticed and now his time has arrived. Dont worry though, Im sure some of his puppets now at Brimbank Council will find him a suitable role holding up a stop sign and wearing a multi-colored coat at a school crossing somewhere in Brimbank. It will be the most he has ever contributed to his constituents. Going…Going…Almost Gone!

    Posted by Gulfstream Jockey | May 25, 2009, 14:36
  29. You make me laugh Seitz honest, now lets see the rental house in Geelong, Bingo Money a Golf Club that does not exist, his office electoral allowance used for donations to council elections, and the list goes on and now responsible for mass staffers losing their jobs,…..

  30. The only dog is Seitz in the highest order. Thank your longest serving MP for the job losses….his a rat & disgrace….

    Posted by Anonymous | May 25, 2009, 14:44
  31. Dear Calvin. It appears the verdict is in……George Seitz is a low life, corrupt, greedy, useless, crook who has not only embarrassed the ALP to such an extent that is will go a long way in handing the Libs the election, or at least give them a better platform, but more importantly, embarrassed the position he holds as a parliamentarian and in doing do, even further lowered this title in the eyes of the community.
I hope this ‘dog’ reads this blog of truth and attempts to show that the ALP is not all bad and that not all parliamentarians are crooks and resign.

  37. Hey Calvin – do you live in Brimbank? Name me ONE good, decent thing George has actually done for his constituents? I couldnt give a flying fcuk what he’s done for the party – that would only be done to further his own agenda. As per above – pull your head out of your arse.

  38. Hey gonz, you sound like one stupid fuckwit. Have a look at what Timmy Hairy Arms says above. This is true. People like George give stability to the party. He is a good man.

    Posted by Calvin. | May 26, 2009, 20:37
  39. Hey Calvin what planet do you live on? Seitz is not in parliament to give stability to the ALP he is there to represent the people who elected him. And I dare say he has done a very average job of that over the last 27 years.

    Posted by Anonymous | May 26, 2009, 21:23
  40. A person does not survive in an elected position for 27 years if they did a “very average” job.

    Posted by Calvin. | May 26, 2009, 22:35
  41. Calvin you missed my main point ie Seitz is NOT in parliament for the stability of the ALP.

And MPs can and often do survive for a long time despite their lack of talent, especially if their local branches are stacked.

I stand by what I say George Seitz has no talent, he has had 27 years and he has contributed nothing to the public policy debate in Victoria. When it is all said and done he will only be remembered for being the branch stacker he is.

  44. Calvin you moron.Your reasoning for Georgie lasting 27 years is the sort of explanation one would expect from one of his puppets. You probably also believe that the reason Robert Mugabe(Zimbabwe)has been in power since 1980 is also because he has delivered magnificent results for his constituents. The reason that Mugabe has lasted this long is through corruption. See the similarities you moron? As for both Georgie and Robbie….Going, Going…Almost Gone!!

  48. Gulfstream Jockey, why so angry?
Go and have your next fix and calm down.Trying to compare Australia with Zimbabwe is a bit extreme, don’t you think?
    I think it show’s you would’nt

    know s-word from clay.
George and Robbie will be just fine.

    Posted by Calvin. | May 27, 2009, 11:25
  49. Calvin you moron, Im not angry but simply amused at how silly you obviously are. I was comparing your mate Georgie with Mugabe and how both survived on corruption and not talent or the ability to deliver to consituents. I did not compare Australia with Zimbabwe. Obviously you’re too stupid to know the difference. You should take the time to read messages properly and then you may be in a better posititon to make an accurate response. Your stupidity is the type of characteristic that George wants in his disciples. Going, Going..Almost Gone!

    Posted by Gulfstream Jockey | May 27, 2009, 22:45
  50. Gulfstream Jockey, the point I was making is that you can’t compare politics in Zimbabwe with politics in Australia. Mugabe would not have lasted 27 years in Australian politics. Seems you are the one who is to much of a stupid dickhead to know the difference.

  51. Calvin is really George Seitz after a dose of Viagra!

    Posted by Inspector Gadget | May 28, 2009, 22:42
  52. Madden is actually a damn fine Minister. His fault was in letting Steve Bracks order him to employ Suleyman the convicted thug and then not keeping an eye on him. The local ALP has much to answer and while the Premier and his dog, sorry, his deputy want to sack all Councilors from working for MPs, that will not stop the issue, nor make it go away or resolve the problem. Will Telmo and Georgie be pressured to resign before Christmas this year? If not then we are being forced to retain MPs of very questionable integrity. Will the various Crs named in the Ombudsman’s report plus one newbie who has lied about her election costs and funding be forced to resign? If not then the Brimbank community becomes the key laughing stock of the state. But unless you do these things John Boy, the issue will remain up to election time. Worse for you, if the Greens, DLP and Libs/ Nats refuse to ban Crs then you will look like the bully you are because that is what is going on here. You are bullying good people to cover up the scum of the earth. And from what I hear from several friends, these very Crs including ALP members are dead set against you. And why shouldn’t they be as you ahve made them the scapegoats, you have tarnished their reputations and impugned their integrity and allowed the reported persons to get away scot free. Then we have Hulls and his convicted felon employee. What are you doing about that one John Boy? Oops, not much since you used to employ that bloke’s wife in your own office. Hulls employs your daughter. Aren’t you worried about her working anywhere near such a convicted felon?
