We hear that the Federal Minister for Defence Joel Fitzgibbon has resigned.
DEVELOPING…
UPDATE: The reason for his resignation relates to an alleged breach of the ministerial code of conduct, that relates to NIB, an insurance company run by his brother, and the Department of Defence. It is anticipated that Rudd will not be inclined to appoint another minister who dares try to reform that department. Because while The Age’s story on the Defence Department investigating him was proven to be false, it is clear they had a very hostile view of him. And that created considerable political danger.
UPDATE 2: It appears that either Parl Sec Mark Arbib or Greg Combet will get the promotion. Both are from NSW, Arbib has the advantage of being from the NSW Right faction, as is Joel Fitzgibbon. Our money is on Arbib, who is believed to be strongly making the case for his faction’s representation in the ministry. Combet is a member of the national Left caucus.

Good riddance! A victory for the Liberal Party.
I wish Conroy is next to quit.
That’ll teach that Fitzgibbon prick to demand efficiencies from us, the impertinent little turd.
Working in my dad’s electorate office for six years (whose seat I inherited) has failed to equip me for the vigours of Cabinet. Funny that!
Give Combet defence he thoroughly deserves the poison chalice (soory I didn’t buy his romanticised portrayal in Bastard Boys). Defence is no longer the glamour portfolio of the days of Bomber Beazley, defence is the new Aboriginal Affairs (read dud, career destroying) portfolio. A hostile public service, big dollars involved, soldiers involved in two wars abroad.
I I demand to be appointed Defence Minister…!!!

Daaaaaaaaaaaahlings
My time has come!
Onwards to Russell, driver!
Poor Joel – working his way up from being Dad’s electoral officer…gaining masses of life & work experience in the process…bouncing around the party in order to develop a coherent and empathetic insight into the mind of the great Australian public…yet somehow these skills failed to translate in to administrative success; or provide him with the judgement to figure out that getting $ handouts from susso foreigners wasn’t a good look.
Let’s pin a bag containing his parliamentary super (in cash) to his backside, and anyone who voted ALP in 2007 has free reign to swipe the cash, no holds barred.
P.S: Kev, for god’s sake please shuffle Conroy out of Communications. Let the interwebs roam free!!

yeah Arbib needs a spot because the NSW right is UNDER-REPRESENTED in cabinet.
Arbib looks and sounds like a muslim, hopefully the Department spies on him too [if he gets the gig] LOL.
As for Combet, wrong man for the job, its like putting Gillard in the Defence portfolio. As a leftard you can’t protest against yourself re: Iraq and Afganistan lol.
chris bowen for defence minister!
Joel Fitzgibbon is known to have visited Victoria on many occasions. Victoria is the state where Richard Dalla Riva lives. Mr Fitxgibbon had an obligation to inform the public whethere, in all of his trips to Victoria, he met with RDR or had any conversations with him. his failure to do so cast a great stain on his character. that is why he had to go.
“chris bowen for defence minister”

Thank you for your contribution, Josh Levy.
***because while The Age’s story on the Defence Department investigating him was proven to be false, it is clear they had a very hostile view of him***
Yes they did, for valid reasons. I salute those in the Department who risked their careers to make the Minister’s errors of judgement public knowledge. **Even if he was completely innocent** there were too many questions raised, for him to remain. Unfair perhaps but someone in that position cannot have the slightest question mark on their CV.
16:47 Anonski you are a racist pig so if you look and sound like a muslim no go to be a Minister, what a disgrace!!!!
Oh for fucks sake, can we get rid of this RDR stuff? It was barely funny when it first started.
@Anonymous – come off it old chap, can’t have some wog in charge of the forces can we now? It just simply wouldn’t do!
Put me in a seat and I’ll happily take on the role. My qualification: taking good notes…
Having failed to make the false allegations about the Defence Department spying on him stick it is now revealed that his downfall was caused by “Judases in his midst”. I always suspected that the Joos would eventually be exposed as having had a hand in him coming a gutser.
The jews in the midst always get the blame.
