The Sunbury Liberation Front (SLF) is an apolitical organisation set up to ensure that both political parties are reminded of their promises made to the community at election time.
A YEARNING FOR FREEDOM
In 1999 following the merger of the Shire of Bulla with the Broadmeadows Council. Steve Bracks promised that if elected he would allow us to participate in a plebiscite to gauge the mood of the community. He stated that if there was support he would conduct an economic study to see if it was viable to form our own council. Once elected he conveniently forgot his promise as did Joanne Duncan.
In 2002 and 2006 the Liberals stated that they were committed to the plebiscite and would see it through if elected to power. If they pull off a miracle led by Ted we intend to hold them to their promise
The amalgamation of the council was something that most Sunbury residents were opposed to at the time and still are.It is amazing how emotive and worked up many people still get about the whole thing.
STIRRING THE POSS, TAKING THE P*SS
The role of the SLF is to hold both parties to account on this albeit in a tongue in cheek way. We also take delight in stirring the possum on local contentious issues and hopefully take some of our local political activist and big mouths especially the SL retards down a peg or five. Any pompous idiot who contacts us selling a party line, as did Sunbury ALP member and Electorate office Sean Payne did assuming I didn’t know who he was will get pilloried without mercy.
Its all a bad case of bad satire with a serious side to it, ie highlight the raw deal that Sunbury gets from the government and the Hume Council, we have no medicare office, no local hospital ( Sunbury private has been sold off despite the government having the option to buy it cheaply) parking is desperately short, services are poor, the government wants to foist a second rate electric train line on us without any consultation and the council has sold off a lot of Sunbury assets to finance development elsewhere in Hume including their lavish new offices. ( Lots of flash new parks and golf courses in Craigieburn and Roxburgh park but none in Sunbury)
It also highlights the cultural and community divide between Sunbury and Broady. – We are not part of Broadmeadows and will never be. Plus us Sunbury lads like to poke fun at Broady. Its sort of a Springfield vs Shelbyville thing.
In the next few days we intend to launch our campaign in earnest. The bumper stickers have been ordered, the banner has arrived and will be making appearances outside all sorts of places including MP offices, council chambers and prominent landmarks. Photos to be posted on our site. Hopefully a few pollies will squirm as we take the p*ss. I hope they take us on. Nobody looks good having a crack at satirists . They just get labelled old cranks with no sense of humour ( The Chaser crew excepted of course)

I emailed you with a comment that was a matter of record, namely that the municipality of Hume was created by Mr Kennett. We may argue about the legitimacy of the that act, or its continued use to the people of Sunbury. But I don’t think for moment that I’m going to get a sensible argument out of you, since you are obviously as mad as a cut snake.
You may call it a party line if you like, but your own party line is obvious and becoming more so by the minute.

How refreshing to see there is someone as outspoken as my good self.
