NOAH’S ARK: Labor Unity secretary delivers vote triumph

shortenwin Labor Unity’s ShortCons are delighted with their efforts from this weekend’s ALP Victorian State Conference. The election to the National Conference revealed that they are now the biggest of the Labor Right groups by the narrowest of margins. The count was conducted today.

Capably organised by the astute clipboard-wielder from Mt Macedon, Noah Carroll, as faction secretary, Labor Unity achieved 23 national conference delegates over 22 Ambition Faction NUW/SDA/Feeneyites, Socialist Left got 31, Independent (Eric Dearricott – branchstacker) 1, Dean Mighell’s UCA got 5 (including 1 from the Plumbers who look set to join Labor Unity), Ferguson Left 4 for 85 delegates in total.

If only they were all told to sit in the one train carriage for an overnight ride to Sydney for the NatCon. Who would come out alive? It would almost certainly be a case of Murder on the Comrades’ Carriage Express. Instead of the black tie of the Orient Express though, the union polo shirt and embroidered bomber jacket would be the favoured attire. Fortunately, the delegates are unconcerned by their carbon footprint and will be flying up there.

This is a strong result for the Labor Unity Shorten/Conroy/Richardson group because it shows they would have a majority in a combined Labor Right. Of course, in the new world they’re attempting to construct, majorities would be cast aside in favour of a consensus model that would achieve peace and hippy love.

  1. This is a skewed result. Two votes from the Health Union rightfully belong in the other pile. Hence, the real result is 24 votes and only 21 for the ShortCons.

  2. Once again a superb result for Fiona Richardson, the able Darebin LU organiser who singlehandedly won control for moderates of the Darebin Council and repeated her organising skills at State Conference for the National Conference.

    Well done Fiona.

  3. Dick, can Fi’s influence & control on Darebin council be undue influence???

  5. Let me guess who did the tiketing for the Feenyites? Only Conerad could turn a 25-20 win into a 22-23 loss! What an incompetent clown.

  6. David Feeney is a FPLP delegate, so it’s actually even. Smart man to get elected from a different delegation.

  8. Tsk tsk tsk. At a time of global insecurity, we are navel gazing about this shit.

How is the world going to deal with North Korea and Iran? What is Australia going to do to contribue to the Nuclear Power debate?

Our party is run by f-wits and those with relevance deprivation syndrome.

  10. Canrod Franch should be sacked for his incompetence, the only job he should have that is related to the HSU should be scrubbing toilets in hospitals.

  11. Only you drooling idiots at VEXNEWS would regard the ShortCons split from a united 53% right faction into a new 25% “rat” faction as a triumph.

  13. Oh dear the Shortcons aren’t counting on the HSU votes to be permanent one would hope?

Fegan only has slightly more support among HSU members as the special people she paraded around Conference. What fraction of 16000 does 50-100 constitute?

Do the Shortcons think it’s an election winning percentage?

    Or are they being bullshitted?

She may bleat that Jackson forces stacked special general meetings, that significant majority support for the incumbent is yet another conspiracy, and that she has the numbers and the crew (LOL). Desperate rants. Effortlessly rebutted by reality.

What might be going in the Shortcons’ collective heads at the moment, and what would be going on in Fegan’s head, is a source of absolute fascination.

Don’t be counting HSU votes for the Shortcons.

  19. It seems like a long cold shower is needed to remind these posters that its far too easy to let government slip back to the tories. Gut ALP state head office – rebuild with new faces and talent; none with histories in branch stacks OR writing to these blogs!

  21. To Anonymous | June 15, 2009, 18:30…….Dick Wynne doesn’t know what undue pressure is, or for that matter what a conflict of interest is. That’s why he is such a pathetic, useless and cowardly Minister for Local Government who may just well have handed the Libs enough fodder to use during the leadup to the next election to cost labor the election. Do the ALP a favour DICK and resign now…….. !

  23. Feeney was gifted the Federal Parliamentary party position by Marles and Shorten to make him feel better, claiming that as a win shows just how buggered they are.

  26. I wonder how the marriage between Fegan’s HSU Forces and the Shotcons is going. It will hard to reign her in. Fegan has stated for years she didn’t like Shorten but feelings can change. I bet the marriage ends in a messy divorce down the track!

  27. Thats’ why it’s god to be a fence sitter, and be nice to everyone like me. I have sucked up enough bums on both sides that no matter who has the majority that everyone likes me. And of course, when the time is right for my bestest mate KRUDD to evalutate the front bench, everyone will support my promotion.

  28. Pauline Fegan HSU President for Higgins. She believes in all that costello stands for. She has used workchoices to sack staff. And she is doing to unionism what Howard couldn’t. Just have to get her to quit the labor party which she just joined last week.

  48. Pauline (aka Dark Horse, RCH Member, Number 3 Member, Go New HSU, Dark Horse), sounds like the excitement of ALP Conference has faded quickly. Don’t forget to take your meds, and consider weaving baskets. It’s more therapeutic than incoherently commenting here. Loser.

  49. In a behind the scenes doggy deal made by Shorten, the left have secured pre-selection in electorates where the left do not hold the numbers.

Bill shorten is the greatest threat to democracy in the Australian Labor Party.

If Labor loses the next state election as predicted then Shorten will be one of the main reasons for labors defeat.
