THE ALDRED FILES: We show how anti-semite Ken Aldred is trying to con Deakin Liberals

The Liberal preselection candidate for Deakin Ken Aldred has dishonestly failed to disclose to Liberal Party decision-makers his well-known ties to the anti-semitic Larouchite extremist movement and his past history of denigrating prominent figures in the Jewish community, including Mark Leibler.

Liberal party members in Deakin will meet tomorrow night to consider his candidacy for the eastern suburbs Labor marginal. While the previous incumbent Phil Baressi is expected to win, Aldred talks a good game and has been able to keep debate of his shameful record to a minimum.

ANTI-SEMITE
Aldred falsely accused a respected ageing Jewish community leader Mark Leibler of running a tax avoidance scheme that laundered money, in conjunction with the Israeli intelligence agency, the Mossad. The accusations were based on forged documents provided to Aldred by the Larouchites, which he partly read into Hansard while still a federal MP.

Long-time readers will recall our predecessor publication’s campaign to remove Aldred as a Liberal candidate in early 2007 after we revealed his successful performance in the preselection ballot for Holt and detailed his extremely strange views of the world. He’d been supported by a number of Liberal MP’s and more generally by some in the Baillieu faction. He was removed as a candidate by the Liberal administrative committee. It was a deeply embarrassing debacle that revealed inadequate systems in place for preventing candidates with links to extremist groups from nominating.

Documents obtained by VEXNEWS reveal that his formal application for selection does not mention any of the controversies he’s been involved with.

Aldred has exploited the presumption of good faith that plays a vital role in any preselection process. It’s not unreasonable for party members to rely on the information provided. Tomorrow night’s preselection will decide the candidate but perhaps it’s about time the Liberal party provided members with information about the public activities of those putting themselves forward.

At one level, Aldred presents as a strong candidate, with plenty of experience winning marginal seats. But beneath the surface of his fraudulently incomplete CV is a record that would do any neo-Nazi skinhead proud.

The Liberal Party has a proud history of supporting Israel. It’s time they took action to stop Aldred besmirching their good name every time federal preselections occur.
