FROM ON HIGH: Preselections results before the ballots // Tomorrow’s news today

alpcrystal Nominations for the Victorian Brimbank-related seats to be decided by the ALP National Executive have closed. The Grand Poobahs of the Executive will democratically select candidates tomorrow morning without the vulgarities and potential dangers of local plebiscites filmed by Josephine Cafagna of Stateline and her unwashed crew.

In Keilor, the nominations are Tammy Gardiner, an offsider of George Seitz, Sebastian Agricola, the former defence lawyer for ex Brimbank councillor Sam Tabban who was acquitted of bribery charges and Natalie Sykes-Hutchins, a former Trades Hall assistant secretary who is married to highly regarded NSW Right Senator Steve Hutchins. Natalie is expected to be selected there. Her elevation has been much anticipated by both parts of the divided Right who regard as a very talented prospect with many regretting she wasn’t preselected for Isaacs years ago when the lamentable Ann Corcoran stole the seat. As Labor Unity rebuilds and heals its wounds, Natalie’s strong connections with the Feeney brigade and close friendship with Bill Shorten provide a potential bridge of brother/sisterhood across the sub-factions. She is also said to retain a healthy scepticism about the imperial aspirations that some at the NUW group are said to harbour by their critics and are often over-stated by conspiracy theorists and those who obsess about Tim Holding.

In the upper house province of Metro West, nominees include Industry Minister Martin Pakula who is winning friends and influencing cardigans at DIIRD who hope he’ll be made co-ordinating minister soon, President Bob Smith of the upper house, Socialist Khalil Eideh who serves Australian and Syrian governments while barracking for both Essendon and Collingwood and battling it out for the fourth possibly winnable spot Claudine Spinner, Llewellyn Rees and Troy Atanasovski from the lovable Brimbank clowncil.

Smith moves in to fill the vacancy created by former Essendon player Justin Madden, who is running in Essendon, a story that Essendon supporter Peter Rolfe at the Sunday Herald Sun got onto heroically early nearly two weeks ago, reflecting that publication’s vastly superior news-gathering prowess as compared with its lame rival at the Sunday Age which is heavily subsidised by profitable parts of that ailing newspaper.

Expect to see Socialist Lefty Llewellyn Rhys of name as Welsh as Lloyd-George to get the nod for the fourth spot on the western metro ticket. He works at lobbying den CPR and is therefore a friend of property developers and such so isn’t exactly the typical socialista. Also said to enjoy raves. A refugee from the Apple Isle. He’ll be hoping to bump off the lazy Greens party hack Colleen Harland who would probably able to squash him to the point of suffocation.

To stir the pot Andrew Lappos is running against the highly regarded and smooth Telmo Languiller in Sunshine. Telmo is staying on and will be given the nod there.

Marsha Thomson, Rob Hulls, Marlene Kairouz, Bill Shorten and Minister Brendan of the clan O’Connor have all got back unopposed and can look forward to four more years unless of course they get Twentymanned. In the event that the shrewd campaign maestro ALP state secretary Stephen Newnham departs, they should perhaps consider handing the seat over to Twentyman without a fight, it might be cheaper. And the increasingly svelte former lard lord Les would probably vote Labor most of the time in the house provided single malt kept coming.

  1. Seriously how long can taxpayers and the party machine be reasonably expected to fund the lifestyle of the Member for Footscray?

Time for new blood, surely the people of the West deserve better and given that sections of Footscray are slowly being yuppified it might be a good idea to get a more dynamic MP who could survive a challlenge from the Greens or rogue independents.

Marsha is only interested guaranteeing her livelihood on the party machine gravy train, she could care less about anything else frankly. Surely she has already been given three more terms than she deserves.

  5. Since when is a close friendship with Bill Shorten a plus?? Someone save those souls in Brimbank who seem destined to have to live with another “not what you know but whom you know” pre-selected puppet.

  8. So ,Bob is abandoning the South East Metro Region after having done zilch for it.

Given that Bob lives on the Peninsula, it is very odd move though the religious communities in the SE Metro Region are mighty crook on Hulls and Bob and with the stench of corruption, there is every reason for Bob to be worried in his No 3 spot.

Given all that, West without golf is better than than golf 7 days a week.

  21. Can Langdon’s private life cause him to lose an election????

Whether he’s gay isn’t the issue, it’s his use of prostitutes that is the problem.

  23. Considering the situation with PM Rudd and Treasurer Swan, following the comments in the Senate by Treasury official Grech, it will be interesting to see the elections results in State elections, for voters surely will have to be at least pertially concerned abut having more Labor MP’s.

  24. Bob voted for HRT legislation in return for a set of golf clubs, another term in parliament and a safe spot in the West. His staffers will be used to redress the membership imbalance.
