Parliamentary Secretary and Labor Unity convenor Bill Shorten has announced a long-expected retirement from the bearpit of the ALP’s Administrative Committee (journalists please note it’s not the Administration Committee) to pass the torch to one of his crew, Lance Wilson.
He said “I have decided to resign from my role on admin committee to give me more time to focus on improving conditions for Australians with disability and the task of helping Victorians rebuild after the devastating fires of February 7th.”
His role in achieving the party stability deal in January and in ironing out the details of the preselections since then have occupied a great deal of time of one of the government’s busiest and highest profile leaders.
The federal government’s Victorian bushfire response is understood to involve co-ordinating 20 Fed govt departments and cutting through the red tape they inevitably create to deliver positive outcomes for the victims of the fires.
That’d be enough to keep anyone busy.
Admin won’t be quite as much fun as it was, Labor insiders say.
Maybe now Admin can go back to meeting on Thursdays at the end of each month
More time [deleted - grow up lads]
I thought he would have passed the torch to Fiona Ward
Now the committee will fall to pieces just like the AWU has after he left!!
Admin hasn’t been the same since Diane Anderson left it. Diane was put on it with support from the TWU during the three years it was controlled by the Pledge. When LU won back the TWU Diane went off.
Interestingly the lady from Michigan later became an enemy of the Pledge, and was seen voting at State Conference for the Griffin sub-faction of the Socialist Left.
Please stay in America Diane.
On ya Billy! You’re the coolest!
Bill was a squib at Admin – always doing over his own to curry favour with other factions.
Now he concentrate on taking his divisive childrens’ games to Canberra to poison the Federal Caucus.
The guy has never stopped playing childish Young Labor politics and never will.
Please give me more love….Daddy does not hug me enough.
