Reports that Evan Thornley, the former state Labor MP who quit in bizarre circumstances after being offered a coveted ministry, gave his multi-million dollar rural property to Young Labor this past weekend in a move that has caused raised eyebrows.
Thornley is the CEO of Better Place Australia which has plans to hit up state and federal governments for very large amounts of state subsidy. Some speculate his demands could be in the tens of millions. Better Place is a company that plans to set up a chain of electric car battery charging facilities across Australia.
Young Labor in Victoria includes a number of ministerial and other political staffers whose employers might have a role in deciding what funds are allocated.
Members of Young Labor have told VEXNEWS they are worried about being associated with Thornley but those in charge found the generous offer of free access to the beautiful property outside Geelong to be ‘too good to refuse.’ A wit told us that compared to his humble abode it really was a ‘better place.’
Thornley has been accused of influence peddling by Liberals concerned about how much largesse he’ll be able to squeeze out of his old friends in government. VEXNEWS understands Better Place has hired the husband of a NSW minister as the Chief Operating Officer and also plans on asking the NSW government for millions in subsidy too.
Good to see Jesse Martin is still making himself useful.
Heaven forbid a former ALP MP and current ALP member giving offering his premises as a ‘host’ venue for an ALP meeting of any sort! Gee that wouldn’t have happened in Bill Landeryou’s electoral offices or his house in Sunbury would it Andy?
Good one Jesse all crdiet must go to you
one can sail around the world, see all the sites, but miss the thornley retreat. why isn’t jesse popular among his faction?
Why wasn’t liam o’brien invited?
I demand answers

the govenment should not GIVE our money to private companies or public.
It should be equity or loans.
Taxpayers pay enought tax but see it given via subsidies to wealthy companies and shareholders.
If students must pay HECS back the companies should pay back the subsidies.
The public pay twice, once in taxes and then in nevers ending charges and the dreaded Godds and Services TAX (GST)
Stop the gift of our money.
Frankly, I think Malevern is a better place from which to lord it over the proles about Labor values.
1. I told my college mates my mum was found dead swinging by a noose in a cupboard.
It later came out I was lying.
Well??? Who are you?
2. I also told college mates that I had lived my whole life thinking my mother was dead. Then, on holiday, I walked into a post office, the woman that served me looked at me in a funny way. My father began to cry. ‘Son, this is your mother’.
It later came out I was lying.
mmm… perhaps you’re right, Ben is a whole lot cuter.
yeah well who are you
