MAKE THEM PAY: The AgeBC’s lies catch up with them

Former cabinet minister Theo Theophanous continues to be defamed by ideologically driven opponents within the left-wing media who had repeated monstrous lies concocted by a mentally disturbed welfare cheat who still cannot be named for legal reasons.

He announced his retirement today despite the vast majority of members of his moderate faction Labor Unity strongly supporting him if he’d decided to stay on. This support base exceeded twenty votes within twenty-six on the POSC with prospective replacement Nathan Murphy even being reluctant to challenge Theo at all in these circumstances. As a result of Theo’s retirement, it is now clear that Nathan Murphy will take his spot and that Shaun Leane will continue in his eastern metropolitan seat, despite some last-minute maneouverings.

Back in medialand, while the disgraced Age scribe Carolyn Webb has gone to ground, another grub in the form of the ABC’s Josie Taylor has taken up her cudgel of defamation of Theophanous, who must be wondering what he’s done to deserve their spiteful enmity.

The fiery “Big Red” Josie Taylor is now repeating a lie that Theophanous is being investigated for improperly interfering in the sham investigation into him. In truth, as VEXNEWS understands, the Police are investigating a person who tried to offer faked-up text messages to him in return for money. The prosecutor “Mouthy” Michelle Williams SC told the Magistrates Court that no-one – including her or the Police – was suggesting for a second that he had fabricated anything. Indeed, when Theophanous received these faked-up messages, the court heard he immediately passed them on to Victoria Police for investigation and verification.

Scandalously, Detective Sergeant Doug Smith, whose career is under a cloud after the case imploded on Friday, did not alert the defence to the fact they were faked. It was part of a culture of lost objectivity, secrecy, partisanship and stupidity that was a feature of Smith’s handling of the case, according to Theophanous’s lawyers.

The suggestion that Theophanous had coerced witnesses also makes no sense. What would he have said to the one witness other than urge them to tell the truth? Now the truth about the accuser’s lack of credit and honesty is out, you’d think the AgeBC would pull their head in.

The only reason there is an investigation into the Police who investigated the Theophanous case and the whole circumstances of it is because Theo complained about it. He clearly had nothing to hide in relation to his own conduct.

But fiery red-head Josie Taylor doesn’t like the truth interfering with her AgeBC narrative. She might not like Theo’s moderate, pragmatic and hard politics. But her continued venom and lies reveal her to be much nastier than anyone we’ve ever seen in the political caper.

Theo is like the Collingwood of the Victorian Parliament, provoking fierce loyalty and strong opponents. As he says, he played the game hard. But he deserves better than those who got the story against him so wrong in the first place, perpetuating yet more lies, more concocted scandal, more confected outrage.

The Joe McCarthy communist witch-hunt – which had a lot more merit than the meritless hunt for Theophanous by the way – was punctured by the statement of a lawyer Joseph N. Welch who asked Senator McCarthy after a particularly vicious and gratuitous slur against a colleague in a climate of great suspicion and paranoia during live hearings into communist infiltration in the US Government and elsewhere:

“Until this moment, Senator, I think I have never really gauged your cruelty or your recklessness. Fred Fisher is a young man who went to the Harvard Law School and came into my firm and is starting what looks to be a brilliant career with us…(L)ittle did I dream you could be so reckless and so cruel as to do an injury to that lad. It is true that he will continue to be with Hale and Dorr (Welch’s law firm). It is, I regret to say, equally true that I fear he shall always bear a scar needlessly inflicted by you. If it were in my power to forgive you for your reckless cruelty I would do so. I like to think that I am a gentle man, but your forgiveness will have to come from someone other than me.”

“Senator, may we not drop this? …Let us not assassinate this lad further, Senator. You have done enough. Have you no sense of decency, sir? At long last, have you left no sense of decency?”

At the press conference where Theo had retired, where he reflected on the work of which he was justly proud in Workcover, in consumer protection, in attracting jobs and investment to Victoria as the state’s industrious industry minister, Taylor was still in there mucking about without merit and certainly without a shred of human decency.

Both she and Carolyn Webb are the kind of inner-city latte sipper who’d wear an Amnesty badge without thinking about applying human rights principles to anything they actually do in their own lives and work. VEXNEWS understands Webb is on the way out of The Age, with Editor Ramadge hunting her down for poor work performance unrelated to her disgraceful involvement in repeating her mate’s (Theophanous’s false accuser) lies. Josie Taylor at the ABC is going down the same lamentable path. Enough is enough.
