The Greens political party in Victoria has been shamed over their opposition to plans by Richmond’s not-for-profit Epworth Hospital to expand its number of hospital beds on the basis that six backyards would suffer from some shadowing for part of the day.
One of their clowncillors, Alison Clarke expressed concern that the six hospital neighbours would be prevented from “putting up solar panels or drying their washing.” Real estate sources tell VEXNEWS it is not unusual for residential properties near the hospital to be worth in excess of $1 million. A terrace house property on Erin Street at the rear of the hospital that is reasonably representative of the hospital precinct is currently listed for sale at $1.7 million.
It’s interesting that the party of the extreme left is willing to prioritise the interests of half a dozen millionaire property owners above the community’s interest in having more hospital beds.
Indeed, according to the Melbourne Times’ shocked Bianca Hall who rightly exposed and denounced the Greens party shenanigans in the below article, the hospital’s CEO explained that the changes demanded by the radical Greens party militants and their greedy half-dozen neighbour millionaires would reduce the hospital’s capacity by 12,000 “bed days” or 3000 patients per annum.
Labor’s candidate in Brunswick Jane Garrett, who is on the council, also gave the militants a much deserved caning over the issue telling the local paper that the Greens party had their priorities all wrong and that they were “completely out of whack.”
It’s a perfect issue for Labor to focus on in the lead-up to the next state election where the extreme left Greens party militants hope to seize four inner-city seats from Labor and exercise a veto power over state budgets and all state government policy decisions. Their Yarra council representatives offer a taste of the looming nightmare of Greens control, the concerns of a selfish few will dictate to the rest of the community for the most dubious of reasons.
Greens party councillors like Alison Clarke have entered into binding policy agreements with the party’s CBD based high command, they are known to seek the guidance of Greens party MPs before voting on contentious matters.
Yeah this time it is a hosptial so the common good must prevail yadda yadda yadda, but the rights of residents are rarely taken into account by the Councils who are elected to represent them and they should be at least factored into the equation. At least the mungbean eating Greens are actually seeking to represent their constituency, this is more than most and I suspect will play well come election time in inner city electorates.
***what is the actual harm of council having a debate***
Sick Aussies, vs. yuppies’ solar panels?
Debate closed.
There’s no debate – we need more hospital beds not millionaire lefties looking to up their house prices.
Sam Gaylard and his right hand man Greg Barber sure know how to look after the patriot classes.
The Epworth is too big already. This overdevelopment needs to be curbed. Erin St is a nightmare and there are few residents left, the houses surrounding the hospital are all occupied by specialist physicians. I don’t see it as a Green v Labor issue, more a massive private hospital overstepping its bounds. The residents of the nearby Commission flats will get no benefit from the extra beds as they’ll be occupied by middle-class eastern suburbanites from Hawthorn and Kew. Local councillors should support local residents and not private hospital owners.
Richmond resident….
Are you by any chance a Greens Councillor? LOL
Dark Horse…..
No, I can’t stand the f***ing Greens.
Drug Dens are OK but not hospital beds for the sick. God help us if the Greens ever get hold of the balance of power.
