The Victorian Liberal preselections are heating up with intense contests with Melbourne Cup fields in the federal seats of Wannon and Aston (starring anti-semite serial pest candidate, tin-foil hat wearer and horse whisperer Ken Aldred), a slimmed-down field in Higgins after the decisive intervention of faction boss Michael Kroger (where Krogerite Kelly O’Dwyer is being challenged by multi-millionaire Andrew Abercrombie) and in the state Liberal held safe seat Sandringham (where Theana Thompson’s husband faces an unlikely challenge from a Baillieu faction challenger).
Party supremo Tony Nutt announced the nominations on Friday evening.
MEMORANDUM
To: Party Members
From: State Director
Date: 31 July 2009
Subject: Preselections in Wannon, Higgins, Aston and Sandringham
For the information of Party members I set out below details of nominations received for the seats of Wannon, Higgins, Aston and Sandringham.
Wannon
Higgins
Aston
Sandringham
Regards
Tony Nutt
State Director
11 people in Aston and Wannon. Thats at least a 10 hour presleection for each. Unsustainable really.
One name is missing from the list of nominees for Aston.
I too will be a candidate, but have declined to submit a nomination form. The law requiring a written nomination is like the requirement to enrol under the Electoral Act – it is the Law of the Jungle, which must be opposed. My tiger will find meat in the jungle without being subject to the Law of the Jungle.
All other candidates who have filed nominations are unfit to be representative of the Party of Menzies.
To submit a nomination form is to betray the Menzies Legacy.
Right…..
Well Dr Dean… why don’t you go to the Jungles of Africa where you belong then.
As for Wannon, I know the imported candidates won’t win. It will be a local like Lou lou, Rainsford, Koch or Makin.
Potential for Nockles who is almost like a 1/2 cousin to most Wannonites, with Price also in a similar situation.
The rest are goners.
Wannon is an ar.. of an electorate.
too big, takes to long to get around, and is destined to be lost by the party as the primary vote is just on 50%
Hawker has left it go to the pack. Years of neglect and disinterest by Hawker have had an impact on the winnability of this seat
Hawker now favours one of the blue bloods, Mitchell so they can all sip tea in the Hamilton club.
What has taken Hawker years to achieve Mitchell will do in months if he is preselected- loose the seat!
You can the advertising by the labor party now – high flying, polo playing, jet setting, company director – that should make the average joe impressed to vote for the Liberals! NOT!
I couldn’t agree more.
And Hamilton is full of ferals these days… Slowly the ALP are pushing Labor Voting people out of the immensley safe western suberb seats and shifting them into more marginals like Ballarat and bendigo, making them safer and making the western suberb seats a little less safe, but hey who cares when your somebody like Nicola Roxon on 71.46 2 party preferred! even 10% loss of that isn’t anything to worry about if it changes wannon, Ballarat and Bendigo seats.
How many of these candidates have an MBA?
I will only vote for a candidate that has an MBA
I will ride down Eastlink today. I will have my MBA printed onto a bumper sticker so fellow motorists can be impressed.
So what….
Having an MBA makes you a good candidate?
How does an MBA make you understand RURAL issues, have good people skills and understand an electorate somebody lives outside of!!??
Watch half these losing candidates run for the State Upper House when pre-selections come up for them later in the year. For some of these people it’s a bit like “gimme a seat, any seat, Federal or State I don’t care just please gimme a seat.” It’s quite sad.
Hey Tony, I’m thinking about putting my own party together I’II call it the Australian Federal Party……………….the A.F.P.
where’s rixon?
South Australian senator Cory Bernadi was in Hamilton earlier in the week. He impressed so many people that a number of us would like him to become our local member rather than the grab bag of losers presenting themselves.
Hawker has a mini me!
If you get excited by Hawkers oratory style, drive, achievment and natural leadership style (not)then watch out for the new Hawker, none other than Dan the man!
Yes Dan makes promises, makes appointments and guess what never follows through, never turns up!
Yes another non achiever in Wannon!
The libs will loose to the nationals if they dont pick a local!!
The question is who is a local
Locals….
Lou Lou, Rainsford, Koch & Makin.
I bet one of those four will be the next member for Wannon. I’m betting Rainsford or Makin.
most of the candidates in wannon & aston will be lucky to get a 10 votes in the first round. even some of the people who politely signed their nominations won’t vote for them
katrina is a lovely person, but too many people recall the impromptu poetry performance she gave during a previous preselection convention. almost on a par with richard kings [another serial seeker of preselection, sadly departed & now most probably running the celestial scout camp]
I said to my tiger ‘Go find meat!’
And my tiger said Grrrrrr.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr said the tiger.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
There are actually some good candidates in the Aston and Wannon lists – AND if unsuccessful should run for State seats, preferrably against sitting members.
It is at the State level we need a lot of new talent – don’t care about sex, age, etc – we just want people with some brains and energy – not the present bunch of dimwits.
Well what state seats do you think need a new member then Wannon Wander?
Time to get rid of Kochie, Vogels, RDR, Kronberg, Petrovich and Coote.
Why is our party failing to identify true local talents who would be ideal for a candidacy for any of these seats, and what more, a female candidate at that. Our local councillor Lorraine Wreford has been a fine example for our party over the past several years and should be acknowledged for her great efforts. The whole community is behind her and if other areas and the powers to be could observe her qualities they would be equally impressed and anoint her as a candidate at a higher level of government.
Everything was in the bag until the last minute..just think of it..in our wildest imagination we couldnt believe that we would seize Higgins without even a preselection… and with Kelly… she has done everything we have ever asked of her… was tough to talk her out of her life long ambition to be the State Member of Kew… although as a local out there she had no hope of getting the numbers….. bugger… oh well… the pink-rinse girls of Higgins will do what the we say… so she has it in the bag. Sorry Julian and Jason… we just couldnt agree on you two..you might actually exercise some independence. Pretty wild come to think of it.. just have to ensure the lemmings out there do not use their brains and free will .they must do what we have told them and will keep telling them to do!.. That is… do what we want! We need a puppy..we mean puppet… and she’s our girl.
Kroges must be devastated that a genuinely talented candidate, Abercrombie, put his hands up for Higgins.
How will he be able to have a straight face when ordering his factional lackies to vote for Kelly when the alternative candidate is such a standout by comparison?
The reforms are a farce if Kelly wins Higgins.
Anon … what can you tell us about this Abercrombie… we reckon the members of higgins who havent had a choice since we got my MATE..sorry thats half of me isnt it.. Me-MATE in all those years ago.. well the members of Higgins have been so trained by us to do what we say that they will not have any brain capacity to even consider an alternative to our Kelly O’Dwyer … bet they are glad we have made it so simple for them.. imagine if they were in a marginal seat like Wannon or Aston with 10 plus candidates in each one… Higgins… blue chip..only 2 candidates… Now that half of me is Going (Saint Peter)… well the Party is as good as dead… as I said on 3LO this morning! Amazing how I can write 2 new chapters of a book over last 2 weeks and get soft-copy on the shelves…. please get out their Higgins members and buy one… several! And of course… Kelly O’Dwyer is your ( we mean OUR future).
good question. if he has a strong record of liberal values & supporting liberal causes we should be told. is he the flexigroup abercrombie?
Yes, he is the Flexigroup Abercrombie.
It seems this self-made man has a lot more business acumen than “investment banker” Kelly.
Why can’t I find a safe seat? Why do people think I am such a wanker?
Huge C*ck, sorry, Hugh Koch for Wannon!
Where is my application…I wanted to loose a liberal seat!
what will they do with Kelly when Costello puts his hand up again?
I have the strong man of Victorian politics, Dr Denis working for me and he tells me I am going to win.
so for you non believers get on board the peace train … because I can provide high quality leadership, inspiration and branch developmenmt just like Dr D does in his seat – yes I will make a difference!
Will I – Wont I… can I .. Cant I… could the party allow me to break its rules again and reopen the preselection… maybe… we/i/us got away with operating our Higgins fundraising outside the rules of the party … why not…. Kelly.. well as all puppeteers know… the puppet moves where the puppeteer wants her to move…. shes a member of Kew… Ronno and Hel(l)en dont want her in the senate… bugger Kew preselection closed…. how about a marginal seat where her energy coudl help us win government….. now thats called being a hard worker for the party… not a known trait by our puppets
I see Price and Nockles have reared their heads again, no doubt professing their real love for Wannon, after professing their devotion to Corangamite only a few weeks ago.
Do they not realise how embarrassing and shallow that makes them look?!?!? Tossers!
Yep, price and nockless are back. They were rejected in Corang, they’ll be rejected in wannon too. There’s no way those country folk would accept the wash back from another preselcion. Rainsford and matshuca will have same problems, they’re always running for something.. I’ve never heard of tehan. Staley will win
Will be interesting to see if Nockles still moves to Warrnambool (as he indicated he was thinking about doing) even if he loses the preselection! Every promise a guy like that makes about such matters only makes it more impossible for him to stand again in future for a seat like Corangamite, should that opportunity ever unfortunately present itself again for him.
Let’s hope this is the last hurrah, in the preselection context, for both Price and Nockles. We have had enough of them and they will, quite simply, never cut it. They just don’t have it, either of them. Might be good apparatchicks, but they are not good candidates.
Hey Insider 101, is your real name Louise? Forget price and nockles, Give Tehan a chance!
I actually think Rod Nockles would be a good candidate. No one can question his loyalty and commitment to the party. We need more peple like him.
Ahhh…2006 All over again… Deakin and Menzies.. the 2 supermen of the Liberal Party at its birth and through its early years… greatest weakness for Superman and supermen and women everywhere was Kryptonite.. These days its the one faction… The Krogerites… the greatest threat to the future of the once great Liberal party… Here’s the view from 2006.. Doyle resigned and: and ductile hacks called on Kroger to tell them whom they should appoint. Part I.
Except, it hasn’t altogether worked out for the Krogerites. They trembled in their boots when Kennett announced he would consider agreeing to stand as leader again. So,too, did Bracks.
First off, there is a nasty war going on inside the Victorian ALP, which Bracks is trying to keep a lid on until the election is over. Whiffs of the stench of the the internal war has oozed out now and again, over some months now. One ALP diehard member was in tears this week, publicly stating that there is a war on and it is vicious. It’s due to the Left attempting to take total control of the Victorian ALP.
Boggling, really, Bracks and his chums of the Junta aree nasty commies as it is. After the formal election is out the way, and assume the left control, as bad as the Junta is, it will be even nastier. A Bracks Junta victory is appalling as it is, because of the ramifications for Victoria of another four years of the monstrous actions of that pack of totalitarian good for nothing, lying, bums. So what a `left’ dominated ALP Cabinet will do is an appallingly worse prospect.
It is very interesting to note, if Kennett had accepted the offer to take the Liberals to the 2006 polls, long-time ALP voters would have switched to Kennett. They reason is: they not only detest the left, the detest the Bracks Junta. One quote is telling, from and ALP supporter, the Junta is spending and taxing Victorians into another depression. Ladies and gentleman that is the sober judgement of a die-hard ALP voter.
The Left of the ALP wish to dominate the Cabinet and with it, feed at the poor sodding taxpayer kept pigs’ trough, so they regard it, which comes with the Treasury benches.
This makes the treachery of the Krogerite axis all the more disgusting. This, unlike internal ALP factional politics, is due only a very narrow and few in numbers section of the Victorian Liberal party, composed of:
The Krogers
Their henchmen
Their shoe shine boys and girls they have jobbed into Parliamentary seats and into Victorian Party offices, including Sheezel, and that thug, Tony Barry
The narrow set of Toorak Political Brahmins, who have worked well with Bracks, to advance their interests, typfied by that promoter of Bracks and plunder by `govt.’, Ron Walker, and who have thus backed ductile, craven, venal, thuggish, unprincipled krogerites.
It is only a narrow section, though they wrested control of the Party and have wrecked the Party over the course of 7 years. A narrow, conceited section who don’t hold Liberal Principles, they wouldn’t even recognize a principle if it smacked them in the face – Ron Walker is living proof of that. So, too is Barry. So, too, Sheezel. They are a credit to the Krogers, and the Krogers are a credit to the narrow Toorak set of political Brahmins. Thus, we have, as covered on Brookesnews the many reasons why Victorian Liberal party members are furious.
The contempt the Krogerite axis have for Party members , of so many Branches, is sufficient reason alone for members to be cross with that self-satisified bunch of incompetents, without the above offences and even worse, as epitomised by the outright disgusting, malicious attack on Prodos Marinakis by Kroger’s thugs.
It is not the Victorian Liberal Party, it is a narrow section who are the problem. The internal problem is not about the Liberal Party and what journalists mistakenly call, `factionalism’.
The members are furious on such counts and at the betrayal of the reason for the Party:
To stand for Liberal Principles, and to put up members of Parliament who will serve the Parliament and thus Victoria but by standing on those sound principles. This makes the conduct of the Krogerites all the more disgusting as in, for they have ensured at least one more term of the rotten Bracks Junta, and maybe another term on top. As one wrote:
These political Brahmins don?t give a stuff about party members or even the welfare of the state. They don?t give a stuff about the hardships the Bracks Junta is imposing on Victorians. They don?t give a damn that the Bracks Junta is wrecking the state.
The members of the Party do give a damn, and so do those m.p.s who are not sho shine boys and girls to the Krogerites, of whom it can said they are muscular Liberals. Those muscular Liberal M.P.s too have had to endure being treated with contempt. It can be illuminated by mentioning, the Krogerties hate Kennett, but are frustrated by him becuase he cannot be controlled by them. Helen Kroger vented her frustration at Kennett on radio earlier this year:
Helen Kroger: He should go away. He’s had his time. It’s our turn now.
Helen, amusingly, summed up not Kennett, but Michael, the lackeys, and herself: they treat the Liberal Party as their vassal estate and members as serfs. In other words, she regards Kennett as a Feudal Lord who is dead. Well, Kennett did not regard the Party, the Members and, Victorians that way at all, but the Krogerites do. That quote is another glimpse of how shallow, bye the bye , the Krogerites are.
The Federal Liberal Party politicians are very concerned at what the Krogerite axis has done to the Vicotrian Liberal Party. The most telling illustration is the Prime Minister’s enthusiastic endorsement of Kennett’s reappointment, if Kennett had agreed. That would have shocked the Krogerites. The Prime Minister is not the only Federal M.P. stirring against the wreckers.
The penny must be dropping in the thick skulls of the wreckers that they are out on a limb. Sheezel will be sacked as Director, for being the cowardly incompetent tool of the Krogers he is. Barry will be booted out for being not only their tool but also a nasty thug. The limb will be lopped and, amusingly, it will be the Brahmins who will lop it.
The Brahmins will distance themselves from the Krogers and let them fall. Funny isn’t it, the very people who backed the Krogers have only done so out of their own interests. Not that that saves the political skins of those Brahmins. The members are sharpening the proverbial axes and, it is a very safe bet, the clean up will be thorough.
Another Federal M.P. who publicly stated his concern is Costello. I found a transcript of Neil Mitchell’s interview of Costello on 3AW.
The first point, during this week, beginning with a column in The AGE on the Prodos scandal, the medja don’t have a clue as to what the real state of affairs. Nothing unusual in that, jpurnalists pretend to be privy to the inside of affairs and they are not. They never scratch the surface on matters. So, too, Neil Mitchell, who boasted before the interview, he has a very good clue as to what is going on. As the transcript shows, no he does not at all.
Interview with Neil Mitchell, 3AW
I draw attention to the following exhange:
MITCHELL:
You know that the analysis is that the Costello/ Kroger faction does involve itself in State politics. Did the Costello/ Kroger faction have anything to do with Robert Doyle’s decision to go?
TREASURER:
Well, this talk about factions Neil, I speak for myself and people that I know that are involved in Federal politics, Federal Members and Senators, absolutely no involvement whatsoever.
MITCHELL:
Have you discussed it with Michael Kroger?
TREASURER:
No, I do not believe that Mr Kroger would be of any influence in this either, because he is not a Member of Parliament and the people who are engaged in this are the Members of Parliament. They make these decisions at the end of the day Neil. In a Parliamentary Party only the Members of Parliament vote, only the Members of Parliament can take a Leader out and only the Members of Parliament can elect a Leader and it is their decision today.
MITCHELL:
Well many of those Members of Parliament and Liberal Party who will be astounded to hear that there is no role to be played by the Costello/ Kroger forces.
TREASURER:
No role at all nor should there be. And nor would I do it.
Costello has dissembled, it is not about factionalism, it is about a narrow section who have wrested control of the Party.
Mitchell has not a clue, as tellingly he has missed the whole point: it is of course not aboutKroger working within the Parlaimentary wing. It is the fact that through the Party, the Korgerites have jobbed into seats their lackeys. Next, while Kroger holds no Party executive office, he controls it through his flunkeys and henchman who do hold Party offices, such as Sheezel and Barry. More-over, the Krogerites method is the same most would assume was confined to the ALP, I once assumed so: they promote Party hacks through to finally jobbing them onto seats.
It is at the Party level and, in particular appointments to offices, and control of agencies and associations of the Party, even the the most innocuous of them such as the Speakers Forum, the Krogerites control the Party. Intervention in the Parlaimentary wing is a straw man.
The right question Mitchell did not ask is: Does the Krogerite axis control and interfere in the Party?
The answer is not only yes, the yes is in vivid shocking technicolour proofs such as:
Helen Korger walking in, literally, on a Branch meeting to tell the members they had to sack their candidate and appoint her nominee.
She didn’t like the candidate becuase the candidate’s crime is to hold Liberal Principles. The Members told her, in colourful langauge what she could do.
So, there was a Kroger who was attempting to dicate the composition of the Parliamentary wing by dictating to a Branch who the candidate should be. That is only one case.
The public case if the shocking character assassination of Mariarkas. Well, one can see the advantage of sliming Mariarkus, that way the Krogerites don’t risk being told to do something. Except for one thing, the Krogerites have hung themselves by it. By their persecution of Mariarkas they have revealed what they are like and what they are doing, to the general public., Vic.
To the public only because, Vic. Liberal Party members had the Krogers and what they were about summed up a long time ago.
There is another telling illustration, though it concerns a Federal seat, it is still a Vic. Party member. The seat of Kooyong and its incumbent, MP Petro Georgiou.
If Georgiou was such a good M.P. and candidate for the next Federal election, and the members so satisfied with him, why did Kroger and Costello interfere in the selection by ganging up against Josh Frydenberg?
Now, whether Frydenberg holds sound Liberal convictions or is another political brahmin, I can’t venture. One thing is clear, Georgiou is not a Liberal in principles, he’s conviction free zone too but with wringing wet lefty inclinations.
Georgiou seems to have presumed, as the incumbent, the seat is his until he retires, as a feudal right, and that no-one should have dared contest for the candidacy. More-so since:
Mr Costello said Mr Georgio’s rivals should seriously consider running for preselection in the adjoining Labor-held seat of Chisholm.
Mr Frydenberg said he would not consider the treasurer’s suggestion. “This is where I am from, this is where I feel most comfortable and this is where I think there is real work to be done,” Mr Frydenberg said.
“I am not thinking about Chisholm. That is not on my agenda.”
Is Frydenberg a convictionless sissy, a coward, too, for why would anybody declare unflinching support for seat warming Georgiou if they had spine, guts, and sound convictions? The job his to swipe the seat from under his fat backside:
Mr Frydenberg congratulated Mr Georgiou on his win and said he would not be trying to undermine him over the next three years.
“I will look forward to coming back to this place the next time there is a preselection, but I certainly won’t be working to undermine him, he has my full support,” he said.
Bah! Drivel and snivel.
This is closer to the truth:
Frydenberg supporter George Swinburne said he was surprised by the vote and blamed factions within the Liberal Party for Mr Frydenberg’s loss.
“He was the best candidate, but there were certain numbers that have played and Josh was not successful,” Mr Swinburne said.
Incorrect in one detail: It is not, Mr. Swindburne, factions who played dirty pool, it is the Krogerite axis who played foul. And, Costello is part of that axis.
Imagine, such a splendid candidate that the Krogerite Brahmins had to work to ensure Georgious was not, as should happen, be dumped in favour of, preferably, someone who is a Liberal. They ganged up on Frydenberg.
Frydenberg needed to show guts that day, and punch the gangsters on the nose, spell out point blank what that lot are, what he himself stands for, so as to give the members solid reasons to themembers to knock Georgiou off and out. Instead, real taxpayers have to carry a useless, snivelling, ductile cretin as an M.P. for another term. Indeed, it is the only thing the Krogerites understand, pain, they dish it out and, they need to be given it back in well deserved dollops.
Leaving Georgiou in would be like appointing Kroger to the seat of Kooyong, a rotten deal against Liberal Party and Oz.
So, Neil Mitchell’s straw man question let Costello right off the hook, which is not the same as assuming, his Federal Colleagues are fooled, and as assuming they are not fully apprised, by now, of what the state of affairs is in the Vic. Liberal Party, and as assuming that, therefore, they are not worried by what is the case. Though, if any Federal M.P. is not concerned, apart from Costello and Kroger’s bosom buddy, than that M.P. is a fool. They should lean on Costello to shape up, spit out his kenyesian-corporatist dummy and, at the same time, take Kroger out behind the bike shed and thrash him for what the Krogers and their thugs have done to the Vic. Liberal Party.
In the mean-time, there is more in the Prodos affair to come out. I’ll keep readers posted. For the time being, Barry, Sheezel and Kroger are in deep trouble over this. So, too is Crikey dot.com, who has followed those slimes to smear Prodos Marinakus. Crikey has pulled it’s defamatory articles off its site, but it is too late. Liberal members, disgusted by the persectution of Prodos by the likes of Barry and Crikey are fully apprised what those gutless, socialist, snivelling sookies at Crikey published. So, here we have it, those craven, venal, thugs and yet, cowards, crawl to Crikey which, as craven and as stupid as Krogers thugs, beleived it too could enjoin in a bit of defamation and no one would object. That is the company Sheezel and Barry keep and crawl to and suck up to.
Just to check, enter into search Prodos Marinarkis and the result turns up zero. Yup, having done their best to abet the Krogerite thugs slander Prodos, those gutless socialist liars at Crikey are now running for cover, the gutless drop kicks and their sookie fan club of whining readers.
There is one site up, which has some of the material, but not the full malicious run of what crikey posted. The slobs running that site are gutless gutless crawlers too.
It was the Krogerite thugs who have fuelled the trash put out by those bums, because, they are the bastards who began the persecution of Prodos.
Interestingly, Kroger has come out this afternoon and protested he doesn’t have any control over the Party and he’s been out of it for some time. He sulked about not being given Kooyong as a feudal right too.
Kroger is so myopic he believes Party members and the public will swallow saccharine coated B.S
Wannon boy, what you mean is that no-one can question Nockle’s commitment to being elected as a member of parliament, and if that means professing undying love and devotion for an electorate, then doing the same thing in the next electorate a few weeks later, then sobeit.
That type of transportable loyalty and shallow enthusiasm is precisely what annoys people so damned much about politicians. It applies here to Nockles, and it applies here to Price. I wouldn’t give you two bob for either of them, primarily for the reason that their professed commitment to an electorate is as shallow as their raw political abilities.
I’d go for nockles before Tehan. dan was working at liberal party office, was being groomed for leadership, promised he would stay for years… then hawker resigned… tehan quit… he has showed that he’ll go after THE BETTER OFFER all the time even though he made a serious commitment to the state president to stay at HQ… liberals there are really pissed.. I’d vote for nockles before Tehan, at least nockles is upfront and honest. Tehan has showed he will quit when the going gets tough… how do you think tehan will go being in opposition for 10 years when he couldn’t handle lib part head office for 10 months.. too risky for wannon… we need someone with long term commitment, someone who will be true to his word not go for better offers… a quitter
Tehan has a wink wink nudge nudge sleaziness though. Hecalled into to see my father last week and i thought he was a sleazy real estate agent. ew Louise Staley seems to be the nicest face to face. Nockles has no chance.
hey dark horse, do you still think rainsford or makin for wannon? you’ve got no clue
Is Wannon preselection this weekend? What’s the latest? Who’s the front runner?
