RAINY DAY: John Brumby prepares for second career as TV weatherman

jbweatherman Vic Premier John Brumby has revealed an embarrassing passion for meteorology prompting lovable 3AW chief grouch Neil Mitchell to dub him a “weather nerd” and attempt to line-up a guest gig for him as a weatherman on Seven Nightly News.

The Premier told Mitchell that he’d be particularly interested in doing the broadcast during a “wet week”, where he could glory in the growth in Melbourne’s dwindling water reserves, soon to be partly remedied by a desalination plant operated by a private syndicate.

Brumby’s description of the weather showed a savant level of knowledge and chilling level of detail. Government insiders say that only when talking about the state’s credit rating (AAA), Collingwood winning, Nick Reece or his farm does the state’s leader get quite as excited as he does in discussing the weather in painful detail.

Television insiders said that “JB” could make an excellent non-politically correct weatherman choice. “Most of them are environmentalist types, mate. Brumby could give a sceptical and farmer-friendly view of the weather without all the ‘gay whales’ propaganda you get from some,” one patriot in the industry shared with VEXNEWS.

“He’d probably love being on tele so much that he’d come a fair bit cheaper than some of the talent we pay hundreds of thousands a year for,” he speculated, clearly not aware of the negotiating prowess of his prospective talent manager, “Lieutenant” Dan O’Brien, currently Premier’s Chief of Staff but quite possibly a budding Max Markson style figure.

With the state election next year, despite polls showing Labor comfortably in the lead in Victoria, many in government suspect there’ll be a close contest regardless of whether Baillieu retains the leadership. The current and embattled Opposition Leader has shown every sign of listening to his many internal critics in recent days, aggressively challenging the government on law and order issue, picking up on a rising tide of concern in the community, highlighting by the state’s popular newspaper, the Herald Sun, under its crusading editor Simon Pristel.

  3. Bob Cameron will singlehandedly cost labor the next election. Put Pallas in Police.

  4. No doubt Pallas would be an able minister in another portfolio but moving him into police is not politically feasible given the allegations made by Ashby in reference to Pallas. Something Pallas strenuously denies.

At least Cameron has kept a low-profile something which has benefited the government. This is in contrast to his two immediate predecessors who got more air time but also copped more flack as a result.

  5. It’s a very rainy day for Craig Langdon. What will happen now that Colin Brooks doesn’t have his puppeteer?

  6. Are you serious 14.15? Whilst Cameron has kept a lo personal profile (thank God for that), the media is running a muck with issues that directly affect his portfolio. He’s not doing anything to solve the problems. He can’t get his department to do anything. He is the worst police minister Labor has had thus far.

  7. Has anyone ever worked with him? That’s a trick question because he doesn’t actually do any work. He’s the ‘meeting man’ who walks out of every pow-wow without a single task assigned to himself leaving the rest of the PPO/Ministerial staffers burdened with following through on his lame ideas.

  9. Better the weatherman, than pay him consultancies out of the public purse like his failed predecessor Joan got for years. He would downgrade the service though as the BOM are at least believable.

  10. “Welcome to today’s weather update. Rain is forecast for the next few days, however, as we will not build a dam or collect storm water run off, very few mm will be collected. When the Brumby Govt was elected in 1999 our water storages were at 85.6%, today they sit at 27.6%”

That’s the weather outlook, back to you Mitch.

  12. Brumby is a great Premier. He is riding high in the polls. There is no doubt he will lead labor into a great victory next year.
