TWO-TIME TOM: Competing office romances caused world of pain for Liberal preselection candidate claim opponents

tomswitzer Liberal patriot and former opinion editor at The Australian, Tom Switzer has emerged as a leading candidate in the party preselection for the safe NSW federal seat of Bradfield. But dark clouds loom on the horizon just as it appears the highly presentable candidate looked like securing a written reference from former Prime Minister John Howard and had won backing from the David Clarke faction of the NSW Liberal Right.

NSW Liberal insiders tell VEXNEWS that they are in possession of emails from Switzer’s past of an embarrassing nature and that “they are not afraid to use them if necessary” to blast him out of contention.

Switzer – some years ago – is believed to have had an office romance at a former workplace. All was well up until the moment that he decided to have another office romance contemporaneously.

Sadly, the two women found out about each other before Tom was aware they both knew. Soon enough, all the women in that workplace also knew and united as one to take down the pantsman who they deemed to be too clever by half and a perfect representation of the assertion that “all men are bastards.”

Part of their conspiracy included widely sharing in Switzer’s workplace the contents of erotic emails that Switzer and one of the young ladies had allegedly exchanged. While we are not in a position to date the emails, they must clearly belong to an era when people were less than judicious about their use and naively assumed them to be private.

One of the emails – read out to VEXNEWS in the tradition of Godwin Grech – made it clear that the two had enjoyed each other’s company “on the boss’s desk” and made a variety of other observations that are best not fully divulged on a website dedicated to family values and patriotism.

Soon, the women swooped, agitating for Switzer’s removal on various grounds. When Switzer became fully aware of the situation and the magnitude of the response to his exploits, he decided it might be best for his own safety to no longer attend the workplace and continued on in another capacity.

Former colleagues of Switzer going back many years have explained that Switzer has always been manfully aware of his “pulling power with the ladies” and that it is a crucial part of his charm, even these days now that he is happily married and no doubt fully settled down.

Whether these smutty emails will be as damaging to Switzer as his political opponents make out remains to be seen. Some insiders believe they could destabilise his bid because he is being supported by the so-called “Taliban Right” associated with NSW Liberal identity David Clarke MLC and the throat-slitting “Madam Lash” Marie Ficarra.

  11. I have always wanted to run for Bradfield. I have told people this on many occasions.

I am organised, charismatic and have a wealth of experience as a staffer for Vic Dominello and I haven’t had any sexual relations with any other party members or have I?

  12. What about “international lawyer” and self-important tosser Jason Yat-sen Li’s candidacy?

He claims Turnbulls Malcolm and Lucifer is backing him.

Turnbull and Lie have been lefty chums ever since they first tongue-kissed at the Constitutional Convention when they pushed for Labor’s Republican plan that won support in inner-city Melbourne and Sydney and nowhere else.

    Losers flock together.

  13. I’ve heard Switzer speak before in public. He was informative, engaging and even quite funny. He’s worked in a variety of public and priavate organisation and knows his sh*t.

David and Billy Bob are most likely ambition faction robots tapping away at their keyboards to kick this fantastic candidate out of the way so hawwke can stick another one of his bland, staffer minions in Bradfield.

It is uninspiring, “wet behind the ears”, marshmallow losers like Hawwke that will be the death of the liberal party.

  14. “Most people think Australian democracy is superior,” he says. “But the Chinese government does something extraordinary. Every five years it comes together and devises a five-year plan and reports back to the nation.

“Imagine a scenario where every five years the Liberals, Labor, the Nationals, the Democrats and Greens all got together and said let’s create a five-year plan. There isn’t this sort of long-term thinking coming out of the political process.”

  17. Hey Hawwke – We’re not paying you $130,000 a year to sit on vexnews and slag off your factional enemies. You know that in the dog world Switzer would be an alsatian, while you’d be one of those chihauhau’s with a bad case of small dog syndrome.

Hawwke you are a inexperienced, uncharismatic hack. You look at someone with natural talent and energy like Switzer and you see a threat to your dream of becoming Australia’s future PM.

We don’t need another bland, inexperienced, hack, former staffer in a blue ribbon seat. We’ve already got one of them in Mitchell – and look at what good he’s done the party.

  23. This story is true. [deleted] He chalked up enormous phone bills (mobile) at the taxpayers expense chatting to his new friends at all hours (he was largely based in Sydney). He was never able to focus on his work. He would therefore make an excellent politician; he has a king sized ego and takes strong moral positions on issues whilst carrying out unacceptable behaviour at a personal level. [deleted]

  29. I don’t think much of Switzer’s writings either. He’s a third rate intellect with pretensions of grandeur.

Mind you, in the Liberal Party where anyone who has read a book is regarded as an intellectual, Switzer gets the type of kudos is doesn’t really deserve.

  34. Don’t underestimate how serious the powers that be will treat these allegations about Switzer, which need to be denied by him if they are not true.

There is a lot more at stake than just Malcolm Turnbull’s future in this Bradfield pre-selection. It may be a federal by-election but the Liberals are going to go hell for leather to bring state issues in to play. This is also a risk for Barry O’Farrell. O’Farrell’s seat of Ku-ring-gai totally falls in to the federal Bradfield electorate.

A poor result in Bradfield for the Liberals may not only possibly spell the end of Turnbull but O’Farrell as well.

The State Liberals lead in the polls is only a few percent – after repeated stories of incompetence, corruption and debauchery have been released. How much worse can it get for Labor and yet they are only a few percent behind. NSW Labor are only a fresh team and a competent leader away from taking the lead again.

Much has been made of the fact that the NSW Liberals are bereft of talent, with Berejiklian and Baird considered too young. Think again.

Former Women’s Rights Commissioner and long-time Howard buddy has been quietly working to lift her profile and is always there in the media to condemn philandering Ministers and over-sexed rugby league players.

It is well known Goward entered politics to become Premier, just as Turnbull entered to become PM. Nothing else matters.

If BOF doesn’t lift his game and the knives come out a little closer to the election don’t be surprised if Goward is not far away from the action.

The Ambition Faction may prove to be of great benefit to Goward with former staffer Penny George proving to be a key player in steering new hubby Scott Farlow away from the hard Right.

  35. Simon Fontana (one of Scotty Fatlow’s best mates) was once a researcher for Pru Goward but he got sacked by her because he was just plain incompetent.

There were true conservatives battling hard against the homosexual/socialist agenda of the group.

Now, alas, these snivel libertarians have have latched on like so many cancerous parasites.

Perhaps Augustus needs to come out of retirement. He may be out of shape and out of practice, but still knows how to wield a sword, unlike these “wet behind the ears” New Groupers.

  43. Return the Party to its “broad Church” base. Why not bring back Jeremy Kinross (NSW Gordon) – ousted by O’Farrell (Ku-ring-gai,Leg Assembly)& the Group (Leg Council)way back in 1998during a bitter & double cross pre-selection at which Charlie Lynn just ’scraped in’ & David Clarke lost. Kinross (born & raised on the North Shore for > 35 years) left the area in 2001 to give Fatty O’Barrell clean air. Apparently, he was continually getting calls from Journo’s at home asking whether he was going to run again – & being the decent guy he was, he decided to leave. I should know – as I see him fairly regularly & know he still harbours that political interest , is very bright, decent & would make a good Leader, as John Howard was known to have said !

Open borders, multiculturalism, ending the NT intervention and a big fat welfare state are just the kind of policies that will get our party ahead and help us woo voters away from the Greens Party.
