Kelly O’Dwyer is widely anticipated to comfortably win this evening’s preselection. We’ve never heard a Liberal party preselection candidate so enthusiastically described by backers, with public and private endorsements of the most lavish kind, assuring that she’s destined for greatness, or at least the federal parliamentary party leadership.
THE ACTION
The preselection was under way at 7pm, with 324 eligible local party members, some 260 have braved the dreary weather and attended. Of the 77 state council patriots, 72 have come along with 4 office-bearers.
That gives us a total of 336 delegates.
By 8.15pm, the second round table is over with the voting underway.
Stand by for the result.
At 9.05pm, patriots advise Kelly O’Dwyer spoke brilliantly, justifying the strong confidence of her local supporters. Questions will ensue with a result expected as early as 9.15pm.
At 9.26pm, voting has just started. Result should be any time soon, won’t take long to count.
At 9.50pm, vote to proceed was agreed to. The result will be announced shortly.
At 9.56pm, Kelly O’Dwyer is declared the winner. Congratulations. We hear the margin was 222 to 112, a very convincing showing around two thirds of the vote.
*vomit*
We have a lot of “talkers” in parliament but what we need is “thinkers” and “do’ers”
what an utter load of trumped up bollocks!
If Costello changes his mind then it’s game on!
AJ….. never the twain shall meet…. thinkers aren’t often the do’ers…you need both. The ideas are generally the easy bit… making it happen is the really hard part… just ask Ms Gillard!!!
I’m interested in how VEXNEWS knows the numbers. Only the scrutineers should know that, and the ballots are immediately destroyed following a vote.
I am sure Kelly is a goer as all good interns must pass the couch interview in order to climb the greasy poll.
patsyparadox (1.08) that what I said – “we need ‘thinkers’ AND ‘do’ers’ “. Interesting to that only 336 members were present for the Higgins vote. Has Higgins had a massive decline in membership or where the rest off playing bridge – this is a cop out for some on election days too. In 2003 when I left the Liberals Higgins had over 500 members
It is shocking how indiscreet ppl can be.
chris, get real – the numbers always leak, & it is ridiculous that they are not published anyway. serial pests like ken aldred should have their lack of support announced to the world
When Adrian Jackson “left the Liberals”, it’s the Liberals that left him.
Israelis banned (20.29) what ever but in the 6 years since i “left’ Shardey is resigning from Caulfield before she looses it at the next election, Le Purvis, her ally and Melbourne Ports Treasurer has died of cancer, former Melbourne Ports chairman voted out first of Aston pre-selection. Any how I well see you all at the Sir Robert Menzies Lecture Trust talk on 08 Oct 09 with Malcolm Turnbull speaking. I am even going to the dinner after this year too. I still have not rejoined the Liberals though but I want to hear Turnbull and hear all the gos as well.
