Well said Oldtimer. At Peter’s funeral John Howard said that whilst he and Peter regularly disagreed on many things – he (Peter) had integrity, compassion, decency and a genuine belief in helping others less fortunate.

The right-wingers who thought they had control over Aston, wrote the most appalling things about the eventual candidate, and who are only interested in the almightly dollar – got burned at the pre-selection.

Am delighted that the rank and file of Aston Libs weren’t fooled by the tactics of the hardliners and made a common sense decision.

Maybe now they will realise that they are past it, the balance of power has shifted away from them and they will find something else to do.

As possibly the ‘leftiest’ of them all, Peter secured Aston and made it safe … not by blindly following the party line, but by honest toil and decency.

Mr Trudge is now our candidate, so get behind him and build on Peter’s legacy. (and please remember that the whole world can view this site and the awful comments within it).

It seems the Kroger faction has no discipline, no direction and no principles.

Shame on them all.

That Kroger camp votes delivered Aston to such a lefty is a source of huge embarrassment to this once proud faction.

The McGowan voters switched to Tudge after McGowan was eliminated in the penultimate round. Tudge numbers were solid but not enough until the last round, when the anyone-but-Angus votes went for Tudge, giving him the win. People who had been on Angus’s Forest Hill campaign savaged him during questions, a fact not ignored by the claque of state council delegates busy with their i-phones in the back row. On a side issue, the Vex anti-Tudge campaign was mentioned by quite a few delegates. If their views are an indication of their votes, it probably got him a few & lost him none. So Vex can claim to have assisted the Tudge victory.

So now that Aston has come and gone, is this where we all land?

- Nick Wakeling is deceitful and a coward.

- Mary Wooldridge is a bigot, and a bad example for all aspiring young women in the party.

- Alan Tudge is strong-willed and deserves much praise for his efforts, but was the first choice of only a handful of delegates.

- Dee Ryall is a fast learner and strong improver, and is most likely the next member for Deakin.

- Tracie Macgregor is a petty mediocrity.

- Neil Angus is finished.

- Nick McGowan will be back.

- Members of the MULC crowd who voted for or supported Tudge are unprincipled.

- The Gidley Crew can spite whoever they wish, but ultimately have no one but themselves to blame for their predicament

- Chris Pearce has no legacy.

The Turks didnt support Matheson, They supported Tudge because Wells & Pearce didnt want him and wanted to fire a parting blow from Aston. I stitched up Mt Waverley preselection by doing a deal to support Tudge as my own turks are splintering around me refusing to support me after i went to sleep for the last 4 weeks of the last state campaign.

If the ALP runs a strong local candidate against Tudge and pumps in $300,000, with a 3-4% national swing towards the ALP winning Aston, held currently by the Libs by 5.05%, will be easy.

When the tsunami of Kevin 2010 comes along there will not be many Federal Vic Libs left.

Today the Aston preselectors gifted their beloved seat to the ALP.

The only reason that Tudge won was because Tracey MacGregor mobilised a anyone-but-Angus movement. She hates him because he stands as an obstacle to her desire to get preselected in Forest Hill. Her plan of attack was to ridicule him for not attacking Kirstie Marshall for being a non-local. Ironically in the process, she has now handed preselection to a non-local traverser, who will be vulnerable to a local ALP candidate.
