The Vice-Principal of elite private school Haileybury College has embroiled himself in the nefarious world of notorious anti-semite Ken Aldred by standing as one of his referees in this past weekend’s Aston Liberal preselection.
The Vice-Principal John Twist lavished the disgraced Ken Aldred with praise, describing the crazed former MP as “an outstanding role model.”
On Haileybury letterhead, Twist insisted that Aldred had “distinguished himself” as the a parliamentarian despite infamously abusing parliamentary privilege to introduce forged documents in a shabby and ugly attempt to character assassinate leading members of the Jewish community.
It is understood he was provided with those documents by the scary Larouche movement, an ultra-right nationalist fringe group that raises millions of dollars a year by cold-calling pensioners and harassing them til they hand over their credit card or bank details.
The ABC reported on Aldred’s outrageous activities back in 2007 and quoted a senior member of Melbourne’s Jewish community Mark Leibler:
And it culminated in allegations on his part that somehow or other, I and the then Secretary of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Michael Costello, were involved in some sort of an illegal operation and forged documents – they were later found to be forged by the Federal Police – were in fact tabled or attempted to be tabled by Aldred in the Parliament. Look, the guy’s a fruitcake.
Leibler continued when asked about Aldred’s then preselection for the seat of Holt:
It’s not half the embarrassment it is to me as it is to the Liberal Party. This guy is a racist, an anti-Semite; he’s presented fraudulent documents to the Parliament.
He is not the sort of person who would be supported by the (then) Prime Minister (Howard) or the (then)Treasurer (Costello) or any Liberal of standing and I’m sure that steps will be taken to disendorse him.
Despite his public record in that regard, Twist wrote that Aldred is “a person of strong integrity, ” who he founds to be “reliable and trustworthy.”
Appalling judgment from a man in charge of multiple millions of dollars – from parents and taxpayers – at Haileybury College.
Shockingly, a copy of this reference on Haileybury letterhead was sent to every Liberal party member voting in the Aston preselection and was used by Aldred to justify support for his candidacy of race-hate.
It didn’t have much effect, Aston Liberal sources say the crackpot got two votes and was eliminated in the first round.
While a dreadful embarrassment for the well-regarded school, it didn’t all end in tears for Haileybury, with one of the alumni Alan Tudge emerging victorious due to the strong backing of the Liberal Left faction and local MP Nick Wakeling.
Have you ever,
ever felt like this,
how strange things happen,
when you’re goin’ round the twist?
This twist should be sacked. Disgusting.
I personally think the Joooz are to blame for this…
Why did he use school letterhead for a political exercise anyway? Many parents will be very troubled by this. Al-Tudge will be too.
Twist is popular at the school but this is a bridge too far. He has tainted the reputation of the school by associating it with a pig like Aldred. It’s not a decent thing and could cost him his job. The abuse of letterhead shows how little regard there is for the reputation of the school. Once tied up in a scandal like this where will it end?
With Tudge who went to Haileybury as the candidate it only serves to highlight the stupidity of this mess. Twist is an arrogant idiot too used to getting his own way without listening to sanity.
Putting aside his bizzare public admittance of his support for the looney Aldred. What is he doing using the hard-earned fees (and taxes) that parents pay to educate their children for blatant political purposes?
He is certainly entitled to his private political opinion and to have whom-so-ever he likes as ‘friends?’.. But to drag the good name of Haileybury into this dirty cesspool of political activity is disgusting.
He should apologise unreservedly – then resign.
Who the God’s would destroy, they first make mad. Seems to not only apply to Aldred, but now also to Twist!
Cheers,
Observer
Aldred was right about the paedophile ring in DFAT.
Bob (19.50) Yes spot on, and so was Labours Franca Arena in the NSW Parliament with her disclosures.
err no they weren’t. If memory serves me correctly Franca Arena was made to look absolutely foolish by her slanderous statements which were all found to be false.
Haileybury is now tied to race-hate
Using a school letterhead to promote a mate is not exactly best practice. No doubt the school board will be wanting a disciplinary hearing etc.
Re: anti-semitism. From what I’ve read Mr Andred was very conspiratorial about corruption – even alleged that the Department of Foreign Affairs had twenty pedophiles within it’s senior ranks. Do we have on the public record any evidence of anti-semitic sentiment? Seems to be like a well intentioned man who was not thorough regarding his sources.
