The Brumby Government’s war on Labor councils seems set to continue, with a municipal inspector descending on the City of Greater Dandenong.
Given the petty nature of the official criticisms levelled against the Brimbank council, Labor insiders fear this latest inquiry will be a “witch-hunt” of the most deplorable kind.
Sally Spalding at the Leader newspapers gives a sample of the blood-thirsty mood down there when she opined:
It is possible the inquiry may tackle these topics, which include:
IMPROPER use of powers and position;
MISAPPROPRIATION of ALP funds;
WILFUL disregard for ethical principles owing to self-serving motives and corruption; and
AN EROSION of public confidence in the councillors elected to perform their duties fairly and honestly.
Leaving aside the hyperbole, of course the Local Government inspector won’t be inquiring to anything relating to using ALP funds, so that doesn’t make sense and the rest of it does seem rather vague although no less vicious for it.
I remember many comments made in reference to the Dandwenong Inquiry and poor Kublai being udner real pressure. Where have all the comments gone , Andy? You’re not cleansing comments are you?
