Switzer, Leeser, Coleman and Fletcher made it through to the third round in Bradfield preselection although as at 10pm Paul Fletcher appears to have prevailed over Leeser by 60 votes to 51.
Fletcher’s Left faction would be well pleased with this strong result in their heartland. He’ll now have a tricky by-election to contest, after he renounces his British citizenship. Most expect he’ll win the safe Liberal seat reasonably comfortably.
go leeser
Who was he against?
fletcher is a win for factional cretins
given that leeser has spent the past 10 years getting ready for this, and fletcher spent about 3 weeks, a pretty telling result
Gutted.
Leeser would have atleast satified…… Fletcher. The lefties united….
leeser would have been the best candidate. Berger never had a chance, nor switzer. Disappointing result!
I could have beat them all….but Richard Shields withdrew my appiciation!!
Another win for the Joy Boys. 180 degrees from what one might expect in Bradfield.
Shame! we know Fletcher was the favoured candidate of Turnbull and O’Farrell.
But can’t believe Alex Hawke’s people turned on Simon Berger.
Disgusted almost every federal preselection in Vic and now NSW so far!
what did Alex’s people do to Berger?
What ever it was, it was consensual
Ambition Faction and friends,
Sorry Berger we had to dump you. You see Simon we’re not really conservatives at all, that “soft right/ mainstream conservative” stuff we were going on about was a load of nonsense. The only stream where in is the stream that will carry the “checkout chick of Capitil Hill” Alex “Gepetto” Haawwkee into the shadow cabinet, my fat arse into Drummoyne and Simon “bulimia” Fontanna into the NSW YL presidency and that is the moderate “Labor is Shi’ite” stream of Mal and Bazza.
The young liberals are right behind
O’Farrell as it is what will be getting me Drummoyne. I’m getting close to 30 so I’ll be out of the young liberals before long and with that there goes my big profile and the opportunity to plaster my face over young liberal emails and those youtube videos no one watches and I’ll also lose my loyal young liberal minions who tirelessly do campaigning for me in the false belief that I actually stand for something. All I’ll be is some has-been, fat, unemployed hack with nothing to his CV except a couple of staffer jobs and my ill fated two weeks at Deloitte.
Join me tomorrow as the Farlow Youth parade behind a hearse, Fatty O’Barrell and a couple of C-Grade celebrities as we celebrate the death of democracy in NSW and inside the NSW liberal party.
Yours in ambitionism,
Scotty Fcuklow,
Washed up loser.
Alex “the checkout chick of capitol hill” Hack is so clearly egging for a spot in the shadow cabinet he’ll support the people he used to hate with a vengence. Who’d have thought that he could go from Mr “capitalism and christianity” to the left’s best mate.
Of course, Farklow (where to start with this guy?), Fontaanna (watch out guys the guy who got sacked by Pru Goward for general incompetence is likely to be the YL prez next year!) and all of the other ambition faction hacks will just fall in behind him. These guys stand for nothing and spend every chance they get to attack the true conservatives of the party.
If any one wants to see them out in force tomorrow they will be out following some corny hearse through the city with Barry and mob of C grade “celebs”. Fun.
If Fletcher was the favoured candidate of O’Farrell and Turnbull, then we know straight away he’s bad news. Good job on pre-selecting yet another sopping wet moderate – now there’s little difference in voting in yet another unprincipled, left-wing, populist Liberal, or voting for a completely different party.
When are the Liberal Party going to start pre-selecting classical liberals instead of left-liberals, racist neocons and social authoritarians? May as well change the name of the party the way they’re going!
does classic liberal = rabid opus dei right-to-lifer? or libertarian?
I’m worried…
I’m nearly 30 and still haven’t got a seat. Alex promised me Drummoyne but that fell through and now I’m left with nothing, I’m fat and I don’t even have a job…
I’ll be out of the Young Liberals soon (nearly 30). How will I plaster my photo over young liberal publications and emails to make myself look important? How will I make stupid speeches to scare conservatives? How will I find the young liberal minions to wave stupid signs around and letter box so I can take the credit? Who will appear in my youtube videos that nobody watches…
I’ll just be some has-been jobless hack in some senior branch that no one gives a rat’s about… poor me I’m going no where fast…
Another leftwing Liberal!
Excellent.
Troethy and I are very pleased.
Don’t worry someone.
Look at me I’m a guy who had a nervous breakdown during a student union election (you know how stressful they are), got sacked by Pru Goward for being useless and lazy, went out with a girl for 6 months without getting any poontang, shit myself whenever one of my former class mate shouts at me and regularly gets chucked out of formal party functions for getting trashed and rowdy and look how well I’m doing – I’ll probably even be prez of the NSW YLs next year.
Just hope Sasha doesn’t have another cry because how I don’t like her again.
Great result!!
Thanks for helping us out Alex. Your assistance will not go unrewarded.
Watch out for Kinross
It used to be that the Labour Party was the party of hackery and nepotism.
This has convinced me that the Liberal Party no longer promotes talent and ability. Julian Leeser and Tom Switzer were both in a league far above the competition. This pre-selection should’ve been a contest Switzer vs Leeser. Leeser & Switzer are both thinkers who have contributed so much to the intellectual capital of the party and Australian Conservatism. Let’s hope that they’re both given another pre-selection opportunity for a safe seat. (And preferably separate seats – so they’re not in contest with eachother!)
The tali back Switzer. The soft right back Leeser. Switzer goes out and Fletcher wins. Then you blame the soft right because Leeser didn’t win?
Looks like a classic tali screw over to me, back the left over a right-winger any day.
I concur with Mister Church. His facebook rant on Turnbull reflects my own views.
The Liberal Party should be a meritocracy, not a fiefdom.
Handing Turnbull supreme power in the selection of candidates certainly enhances his own position. But the problem is he’s not going to win anything to put paid to that position.
In the end Turnbull will self-destruct and Bradfield will be left with an unknown identity until their next preselection.
This candidate may be capable but before he can nominate for the next election he has to become an Australian citizen as he is a Pom currently. One also has to ask why he did not get naturalized before the Liberal preselection. Perhaps if he last he would still be a Pom and could return “home” in later life if he chose to do so.
Sloppy Joe says Fletch is future leadership material. It sure is going to get crowded at the top with all those other future leaders ready to also take the crown – Joshy, Tudgey, KO’D, Jamie (not James) Briggs, Hawkey
It’s a broad church not a brothel.
Yet ANOTHER Liberal pre-selection going to an ex-staffer cum political hack, who doesn’t live in the seat, and has NO real life experience. Never run a small business (or a BIG one for that matter!), never managed a P & L account or a Balance Sheet, certainly never been at the sharp end of managing a REAL work force.
Well, that’s Wannon, Higgins, Kooyong, Aston, and now Bradfield – all gone the same way. I am afrafid the Liberal party has moved from a party of thinkers and doers to a party of “yes men” hacks, and people who are wringing wet behind the ears. Of Tehan, O’Dwyer, Frydenberg, Tudge and now Fletcher, the ONLY one who’s REALLY been around a bit is the next Member for Kooyong.
What a DREADFUL message this sends to long-serving, hard working and loyal local Liberals who harbour legitimate aspirations to serving their fellow Liberals in at least contesting a seat in Parliament?
“As far as pre-selection is concerned, DON’T bother. We’ll find a machine person instead”. Oh! But when we need your membership dollar, or when we need someone to hand out how-to-vote cards, we’ll come and see you very smartly.
Meanwhile Rudd sends this country into financial debt-drive oblivion, completely destroys any semblence of balance in labour relations (“We will make you bastard employer Liberals pay!”), will soon foist upon this country a Liberal agreed and economically crippling ETS, and is even now floating the obscenity of Government intervention into the salary of executives.
And what do we hear from the Liberals, the bastion of free enterprise, small Government, rational thinking and free enterprise for risk and reward? Nothing, not a bloody thing! No rage, no condemnation, nothing. Occasionally Hockey gives a swing of the baseball bat, but not Turnbull, oh no, not Turnbull! Just sweet bloody silence!
Pity, really. people actually used to have a choice in their elected pollies. Not any more! Clearly the future pack of Liberals have become just poor imitations of the old entrenched political machine men and women hacks of the ALP.
Drawing room Socialism. Bah!
Cheers,
Observer.
I could have beat them all……but Richard Shields withdrew my application!!!!!!!
+1
I have discovered some universal principles & policies that transcend the old ‘Left’ versus ‘Right’ tags used by either the Liberal Party or the Post-Split ALP.
This is the refreshing change that deals with truly human justice and human development for NSW.

Another member of the Greg Hunt fun club (of which I am a recent recruit) has been preslected.
Excellent!
Hear hear Observer.
Does anyone actually have some information as to the ideology of this Fletcher person?
No actual information on his ideology, but if he doesn’t have any, that is a good thing in the Liberal Party these days. Otherwise, how can you follow the leader who supports ETS and not publishing school league tables.
The problem with Switzer and Leeser is that they are smart, and have ideologies! They aren’t nobodies reliant upon others’ patronage for his seat.
Alex Hawke’s bright future aint so bright anymore. I think his wick was a dud.
As we said above (Sept 27 at 6.30am) Observer (Sept 27 at 17.34pm) but we now raise the ’stakes’ – WATCH OUT FOR KINROSS !
