POWER BEHIND THRONE: Nick Reece is everywhere
The Victorian Premier’s office have a love-hate relationship with the press. Can’t live with ‘em, can’t live without ‘em. So it struck us as amusing and joyful too that Premier’s adviser Chris Newton and his beloved Katie Wyatt had sent in particulars of their recent betrothal to the “Wedding of the Week” column in the Sunday Age. Patriots with a keen eye for detail noticed that lurking in the background of the wedding pick was former Premier’s office policy director now state secretary of the Victorian ALP, Nick Reece, enjoying the free cocktails at Sarti’s where the happy couple threw a shindig.
Reece has had little time for partying since, getting down to work at Head Office where the minions report favourably on his infectious air-punching enthusiasm and fondness for Powerpoint. The former journo though has cracked the whip on would-be leakers, telling them that as in any workplace those guilty of breaching confidences would be removed forthwith. Fair enough too. Loose lips sink ships.
