A Rudd Government cabinet minister with far too much time on his hands Anthony Albanese has boasted that he has successfully blocked the appointed of former PM John Howard from being Chairman of the National Rugby League.
A Sydney Morning Herald article today quotes Labor’s Federal Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government and the Leader of the House in the Australian Parliament as saying that he’d spoken with lots of people in the NRL about a story that appeared earlier this month claiming that Howard was set for a senior role in the game.
OLD-FASHIONED CLASS HATE
Albo strongly opposed the move, explaining off-the-record:
”It’s tribal,” said a source intimate with events. ”It’s league versus union, it’s Labor versus Liberal.”
That’s certainly the traditional view of the game, but it’s clearly absurd to say Rugby League belongs to Labor or that all supporters are Labor people. Anyone who has sat in on corporate Melbourne Storm functions knows that the traditional class divides in the sport are long gone. Indeed, the NSW Libs have asked a League star to contest a safe Labor seat at the next state election.
ABUSE OF POWER
There’s also a question about whether the minister has acted improperly to use his leverage over the competition to carry out a personal and political vendetta.
Albanese had previously intervened to give $11 million of taxpayer’s pork to the NRL.
A senior federal Labor insider emailed VEXNEWS this morning:
“Not a good look is it? The PMO (Prime Minister’s Office) is reported as giving the nod to the appointment and Albo goes rogue, driven by hate, throws his weight around with these blokes he’s giving ten million bucks of taxpayers’ money and then he rings up Phillip Coorey to boast about it. Albo will cock-a-hoop about this but he’s really just a c*ckhead.”
“I mean how does this fit with the government trying to position itself as appointing people on merit and not holding political grudges when making senior appointments?”
“He’s a senior minister with important nation-building responsibilities. Does he not enough on his plate?
“And he says he wasn’t acting in his capacity as a minister. Yeah right. Does he reckon the NRL CEO would be taking his calls of complaint if he was still just another Rabbitohs latte-sipping tosser having a whine over a wine. I don’t think so. He’s inappropriately used his position. As simple as that.
“And I hate to think what Albanese has threatened NRL officials with, fortunately we don’t have a federal ICAC, it would be a walk-up start for an investigation I reckon.”
Albanese’s foes will always be tough on the tough operator but it’s also clear that by boasting about this sad business, he’s handed them plenty of ammunition. We understand senior figures in the government are “not amused.”
Just goes to show what happens when a feral unionist gets extra power.Get on with what you are being paid for Albanese and forget about trying to save a game that is already under siege from AFL.One could say you are what you support “A Rabbit”
Albanese is a f*#@ing loser who would never get elected in his own right without the Labor Party branding.
Albo is a tool. I once sat behind him of a flight back from Canberra and he just treated the hostie like shite.
Another ‘friend of the workers’ who, in reality is just a user with NFI.
Class divide? Who is the only former Premier of New South Wales to have played First-Grade Rugby League? John Fahey. Which party did he hail from? The Liberal Party. Now another Bulldogs player can come and join the Liberal Team. Hazem for Premier 2019!
Albanese personifies that old Aussie slang saying:
“You can’t polish a turd”
Albo should be praised
he’s even up the score with a Tory
fancy this site denouncing thrill kills — hypocrites
If Albanese can do over Howard then let us hope he does over Costello and ensures the Federal Labor government do not give petulant Pete a job.
Albo is a hate filled, spite driven, little dweeb who is the best the Left have to offer.
Driven by hate and bile, this angry elf should just do his job and shut the f*ck up.
He is the very ugly face of the Left and what a shame that Krudd has anointed him (along with Mark Arbib) to vet ALP candidates for the next election.
What does Carmel see in this little creep?
Thank god we have a hater in the ALP. It is galling to see Labor giving appointments to Lib’s. They never give them to us. Labor should also sack all the nasties Howard stacked into the AIRC (now fair work Orstralia). Keep it up Albo and get some of your mates to join you. Stick the boots right in to the tory filth.
I’ve often wondered, where would we be without the haters?
What a graceless oaf.
Labor a friend of the workers? Huh! Why is it that all Labor politicians move out of their electorate and into safe Liberal seats once they leave office??
Albanese – once an iron-bar wielding ALP Left thug from Marrickville, ALWAYS an iron-bar wielding ALP Left thug from Marrickville. Nothing changes.
Cheers.
Observer.
if my brother could buy me out four times over I’d be banging on about class divides too. But my brother is an idiot, so its ok.
i am albanese, i am a homosexual
The fact that the NSW Libs have asked a League star to contest a safe Labor seat at the next state election is PROOF that Rugby League does not solely belong to Labor.
Take the labour blinkers off, Albanese.
Holy Moles!
Albanese is another scumbag who claims to be for the worker but is just a leftard rich prick.
Be realistic. Howard didn’t want the job. Who would?

What else do you expect from a [deleted]?

Who could forget Albo’s starring role in that great doco about political skull duggery Rats in the Ranks. As NSW state secretary he was asked to resolve a local council pre selection dispute. Not only did he refuse to appear on camera, his solution to the dispute was that the warring parties toss a coin. Pricless
Albanese is the parliament’s best attack dog and a great local member.
Only weak dogs who are busy licking the arse of the business world would attack a Labor legend like Albo.
Defending John Howard is weak and pathetic. Patriot? More like confused fuckwit.
Albanese has higher moral values than Richard Della-Riva.
Great work on the Albo bashing, keep it comming.
Wouldn’t you just love to go the knuckle on this twerp.
regards,
J
Well one thing is correct he is a dog and wouldnt know shit if he rolled in it. Another product of branch stacking in the ALP where you can up the financial rewards ladder if you intimidate the right people. If he is so bloody good why doesnt he stand in a marginal seat?
The crap Albo learnt in Young Labor Left has stayed with him all his life.
He is, without a doubt still just a silly boy playing student politics. They never grow out of it because they have no life experience – just politics. They are so limited in their ability to think outside the square that it not only holds them back, but does not help us, the poor old public.
Grow up Albo. Youre not in YLA Left anymore, sucker.
Albo is a spite filled, little man syndrome victim.
Its amusing watching him in question time.
he yells and screams like a little child, stamping and pouting. He is of little benefir to any organisation, let alone a government.
So no one else seems to see the irony. What about all the civil servants that Howard had “Max the Axe” sack in 1996.karma is a bitch! Deal with it.
It is just nor cricket
it is just not cricket
Albanese- you are the world’s greatest pleb.
this is all a little bit harsh, if howard was appointed to run the NRL you same fools would still complain. get a bloody life!
Of course Albo is a hater, but he pales into insignificance in comparison with Bella Donna Neal. Is that why the Belinda Neal Site has been sealed? Too embarrassing for the blog host?
You have been at sea too long ancient mariner and clearly know nothing about plants and their properties. It should have been Belladonna Neal. You can’t be from Robertson either or you would have known she is not a bella donna. If what she is claiming about being an expert in Italian is true, she could confirm this for you.
Be that as it may, Signorina(???). The poor battered lingua-franca we use today (hardly English), allows all kinds of mish-mash expressions. Anyway, why should familiarity with Belinda’s appearance be confined to Robertsonians? I understand that her countenance adorns a dartboard somewhere in Kenya.
