SAVAGED: Even lefty email newsletter appalled by Green party candidate in Higgins Clive Hamilton
The Greens political party’s candidate in Higgins has been savagely criticised on a web facility normally known to be very Green friendly indeed.
Columnist Possum Comitatus Scott Steel has bravely – and very accurately – attacked Clive Hamilton as a ‘moralising crypto-communist’:
pro-net censorship, hysterical purveyor of moral panics and all round crypto-communist…
He kept going and doesn’t miss:
A seat where the ALP isn’t running, where the Greens actually stood a chance to take the seat with a really good candidate – but where, instead of showing some political smarts and pre-selecting a blue-Green, have opted to alienate half the electorate straight way and chosen a stark raving red-Green in the form of Clive Hamilton .
Absolutely baffling.
We don’t know for sure how attacks on Greenists are generally regarded by the Nameless email newsletter owner but we hope the steely columnist can withstand the hot fires of damnation from the Greens political party members and supporters who are involved in the publication.
If not, there’s always a place at the growing family that is VEXNEWS.

Taking Higgins with a flat-out loop like Chromedome Clive is the worst move the Greens could make. He almost makes Bob Brown sound reasonable – a few speeches in Parliament where he’s inescapably in the public eye will scare some commonsense into voters before the next Fed poll.
Six months after he’s in you’ll have a tough job finding his supporters.
I’m supporting his candidacy as I think Clive would be an adornment to the parliament. Just kidding.
I think Blue Dog’s right. He’d knock sense into the public in weeks and could singlehandedly lose every Greens senate seat.
I think The Greens have got the LIB/LAB party exactly where they want them.

Insider (0.47 hrs) you make a good point but will the average voter in Higgins take note? I can just see the blue rinse Toorak tractor drivers pedaling their bikes down Toorak Rd.
However the doctors wives who rebelled against some of the neo-con Liberal policies some years ago might have a look at the Greens but then again the Iraq war mongers Howard, Downer and Costello are now history and Turnbull is more small “L” Liberal so they might come back to the party after all.

Last week Mr Dalla-Riva, a 43-year-old upper house MP and father of three, made a public apology for inappropriate remarks to the 18-year-old as he drove her home last year from a party fundraiser.
But after News Ltd newspapers reported that the MP also sent the young woman text messages, Mr
Dalla-Riva announced on Monday that he had stepped down from shadow cabinet, which he has served
as its scrutiny-of-government spokesman.
His wife Sadie said she still loved her husband but he had badly handled the row.
“Has he been silly about this whole thing? Absolutely,” Mrs Dalla-Riva told News Ltd today.
“Have I known about it since April? Definitely. I’ve known everything.”
Mrs Dalla-Riva said she remained deeply committed to her husband.
“Of course I love him,” she said.
“We’ve been together for 16 years and I support him.”
Last week, Mr Dalla-Riva admitted making inappropriate comments to the woman and said he had
apologised during a confidential mediation process last year.
The former police detective acknowledged using “colourful language” that could be misconstrued and pledged to moderate his behaviour.
He denied he had propositioned the woman but reluctantly acknowledged she had interpreted his
comments differently.

The arrogance of Higgins voters will decide this by election.
Higgins expect a high profile big hitter MP – and the Libs are offering a no name brand who will struggle to even get a question up in question time.
Dr Clive might just get to Canberra (for 10 months), as Higgins tell the Libetrals not to take them for granted – and to select a more appropriate candidate for the general election in 2010.
This contest will be very interesting.

We need somone better than those 4 candidates.
There are no Clives in Federal Parliament – it is the only reason I can think why one would consider voting for Hamilton.
I can think of several reasons for voting for Dr Clive… 10 months of fun and frivolity at Turnbull’s expense is just one of them.
It happened to Howard… now it’s Costello’s turn, and serves him right for running a no name brand product!
The Liberal Party of Australia (Vic Div) need to learn that the people of Higgins are not going to put up with hack candidates.
We are the jewel in the Crown, and should be treated as such thankyou Peter!
With no team to rally behind I will be cooking sausages for the day to rack up some coin for my school. The extra polling opportunity should put a few thousand into our schools and kindergartens coffers- to offset the million that it’s costing us!!!
