FRINGEMANIA: Labor conference ready to rumble

rockyiv Just when patriots feared this Saturday’s Victorian ALP conference would doze into somnolence due to the deferral of elections of the Administrative Committee, new State Secretary Nick Reece and his merry band have formulated a cunning plan for maximising the drama.

Instead of the normal schlep to Crown Casino for luncheon, Reece and Noah Carroll will be hosting what promise to be highly entertaining debates between various notables, where, we are advised, free food will be made available. Belushi-style food fights have, at this stage, been ruled out.

Early rumours of a guest appearance from favourite conference clown Diane Anderson appear to have been incorrect. She will be sorely missed.

Masterful public speaker John Lenders and clever lefty Brian Tee will be duking it out with top state political reporter for the Australian Rick Wallace and former government spindoctor and respected scribe Mat Dunckley on the question “Who is more out of touch – politicians or journalists?” A close contest there, it seems.

In the next room along Senator David “Rocky” Feeney and VECCI’s vocal Chris James will be taking on Dave “Drago” Noonan from the fun-loving CFMEU Soviet and David Cragg, a patriot now operating behind enemy lines at the Victorian Trades Hall on the topic “Has the ALP moved too far from its union roots?” Certainly a double entendre feast that one.

For those with the less enthusiasm for conflict, in another room will be Enviro Minister Gavin Jennings who will be debating with himself about climate change. Be advised: Sceptics not welcome. “Deniers” will be identified, badged and segregated. Only kidding.

We understand all party members and supporters are welcome to attend, other than Corey Worthington, to enjoy the debate and free tucker.

  4. What s this shit!! What an ill conceived disaster this will be? “Who is more out of touch”, that implies both are, just one group more so. Who is more out of touch, Nick Reece and all of the other dead shit loafers in Treachery place that never venture past the latte curtain that’s who. Labor is in big fucking trouble if it going to go into next year with a State secretary that seems to be more focussed on his next career move as a festival director than kicking some fucking heads Newnam style. Outside of being first to the punch on a tough on crime policy, Nick Reece is turning out to be their next best asset in potentially pulling off an upset.

  6. Typical bureaucratic gigila. This kind of crap was expected by Nicko Reecs when he moved into head office. All this bureaucratic crap he picked from departments over the years. Now Noah Carroll has to go along with it. It sounds like a seminar a department would run with special guest Dr Nick Economiou. Anyways why isn’t that incompetent Rob Hulls debating? Better yet why can’t Dick Diky Wynne debate his shocking year in local government? You want to run debates get the real d!ckheads in govertment!

  11. The second debate should not be “Has the ALP moved too far from its union roots?”
It should read has the union movement lost touch with with workers in the workplace! and if not why are so few of us not in a union. That also includes members of the party.

  15. I don’t care what happens at the State Conference or who is preselected for next years State Election, which we will win only because the Vic Libs are a total rabble. The only thing I ask for is for the those who have a say and those who hold the power….PLEASE…..get rid of Dick Wynne out of the Local Government ministry. He is an absolute dud and is an embarasment to the position of Minister. He has embarassed our great party and embarrassed Local Government throughout Victoria. He has belatedly sacked a council that should have been sacked about a year earlier preventing the resultant public embarrassment to this government and has failed to take appropriate action against the Casey Council who have, as you say Andrew, poisoned an entire community due to miss-management.
He is a Minister without a vision for Local Government apart from protecting those that sholuldn’t be protected. For the sake of our party and for the sake of our third level of Government…..PLEASE…….don’t give this DUD….the Ministry of this portfolio again. The sooner the better as the next minister will have his /her work cut out fixing all the stuff ups this absolute DUD has caused.

  19. The Health Services Union claims two Victorian health networks are planning to cut staff numbers.

Barwon Health, which services Geelong and parts of south-west Victoria, has already informed staff 26 workers will be made redundant.

It says the cuts will not affect clinical services, and some staff will move into other divisions.

The Health Union now says Southern Health, in Melbourne’s south-east, is also planning to cut about 38 positions.

Southern Health has yet to respond to the claims.

Union Secretary, Marco Bolano, says staff at both health networks are distraught.

“Health workers are not going to sit back anymore, they’re going to take this issue up with the health minister,” he said

You have a very good point but he gets directed by premier’s office and even biggger duds like Rob Hulls. It’s premiers office advisors like Tom Cargill who direct the premier come monday mornings all of cabinet sits and the premier and deputy direct everyone.

  24. Lenders was in fine form today easily dispatching the two youngters from the papers. Good to see his debating skills haven’t waned after being flogged by the wet lettuce of the Liberal Party in the upper house all these years.

  27. Must say Newnham is a genius after the way he was able to have the subject of branch stacking put in the Waste basket. No one else is capable of that sort of workload so to all those cockheads abusing him you just dont get it.
