UNFAITHFUL: Barmaid bimbo accuses Premier but did she lie for loot? And does it matter anyway?

bimboerupts Whether bimbo Michelle Chantelois is telling the truth about her claims about SA Premier Mike Rann might not matter much. When it comes to politicians, many people will believe the worst. But importantly for Rann, his wife and supporters in the ALP are standing with him. They’re going to need to withstand this bimbo eruption.

We use that term deliberately because it was the term used by President Clinton’s staff to describe his occasional difficulties on a personal front. It was manageable. Both at home and politically.

BIMBO TAKES “PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY” WHILE TROUSERING SMALL FORTUNE
The bimbo claims talking about this is about ‘personal responsibility’ for her mistakes. And yet she’s only given interviews to Seven and New Idea for money. Some say $200,000 was paid to her for the couple of days recalling/inventing cheating on her husband and having it off on desks, against walls and in the backseat of the car her hubby paid for. Nice.

She insists that’s not motivating her but didn’t explain why she took it. Her story would have had a lot more credibility if she hadn’t have taken money. As is stands, she sounded like a moralising dumb-ass willing to point the finger, superficially taking responsibility but doing so while attempting to cash in from a scandal she either invented or actively pursued.

RAMPAGING RICK’S RULE
It certainly looked like she was trying to help her former husband Rick Phillips who has not been charged with assault but almost certainly will be and could face a custodial penalty. Very noble but you have to wonder whether this trailer trash conduct is the way to do it. Phillips’ motivation for physically attacking Mike Rann is not the point. It is not a defence to Phillips’ crime.

Riley suggests that Phillips “hasn’t been charged with anything” and that “even if he is at this late stage.” Of course, the suggestion that the Police turn around charges in all cases in less than two months is simply false. It can often take many months if not years for people to be charged with many different types of offences.

The lawyer David McLeod who once represented terrorist David Hicks who now represents Michelle Chantelois in her $200,000 cash for lash story could have told Riley that for free.

But we understand that given the substantial number of witnesses to the attack in the National Wine Centre that “it is only a matter of time” before Phillips is charged, tried and – if convicted – goes to jail for his crime.

FIVE YEARS IN JAIL FOR ANGRY EX?
Indeed, VEXNEWS is advised by those familiar with South Australian law that Phillips could well be charged with assault with an “offensive weapon” given that he’d allegedly attacked Rann with a tightly rolled-up magazine and repeatedly struck his face. That offence attracts a maximum custodial penalty of five years. So it’s a very serious business Phillips has got himself into.

It is widely understood in Adelaide political circles that Rick Phillips – the father of Chantelois’s children – has “put her up” to selling her story with one source saying this morning that Phillips had personally arranged her legal adviser to assist her.

No-one is sure whether his motivation continues to be revenge or to somehow escape the legal consequences of his violent actions. The interview will do little to suppress talk across the city of churches that Phillips is a “domineering thug” who is used to forcing people to bend to his will. It seems Ms Chantelois despite having the good sense to leave him is still operating under his spell, say Adelaide political insiders.

McLeod – the former lawyer to convicted terrorist David Hicks – says that part of Chantelois’s motivation was to address lies that appeared “on websites and blogs“. Perhaps that partly refers to VEXNEWS and our previous coverage of Phillips, a man accused of physically attacking the Premier, potentially blinding him in one eye. She of course didn’t defend Phillips’ shameful conduct, in fact we don’t recall it being mentioned at all.

DOUBLE STANDARDS
Mark Riley at Seven says this story is about how politicians treat the “little people”, that how politicians act in private towards others reveals much about their character. Perhaps this is true but also true for Gallery rockstars on the tube who fancy themselves just a little bit too much and act in a precious manner described by some as befitting “Lord Fauntleroy”.

Riley’s judgmental tone in this story was certainly enough to have a Gallery wags muttering last night about double standards. We’ll probably not go there.

His inference at the end of the presentation that the bimbo has lost her job as a contract receptionist in a government school in Mike Rann’s electorate because the Premier somehow ordered her removed said much about the story and about Riley. If it wasn’t so vicious, it would be laughable.

Also bizarre for a woman apparently so wounded by her actions was her willingness to participate in “re-enactments” of her interactions with Rann, including grinning while on re-enacting being on the phone with him. We’re lucky she kept her gear on during these re-enactments, although nude work perhaps might have cost Channel 7 a bit extra.

Their aim from this all tawdry exercise: to get a scalp.

The fact that Rann wasn’t married throughout this time helps him. But it is still a serious mess. Rann’s wife Sasha Carruozo is standing by her man, even speaking to political journalists herself to make it clear that is the case. Many will be impressed at how strong a unit they are proving to be throughout this unfortunate episode. If they can withstand this, they’ll withstand anything.

It’s now up to the people of South Australia to decide. Do they believe the bimbo who received as much as $200,000 for her story? And if they do, does it matter?

  1. Does parking by the North Adelaide Golf Club at night for some oral fun prove Mike Rann’s commitment to “Green jobs”?

  2. Well done Andrew, you have distilled it well. Let the media focus on headjobs and handjobs, and let Premier Rann focus on real job’s for South Australians.

  3. Why the f*#k does this website always denigrate the women involved in these affairs whilst going easy on the politicials? You were like this with Della Bosca and portrayed him as an ALP hero! Enough! Politicians, who run on platforms of “family values” and “ethical standards” must have a higher standard applied to them than your average joe 3-way in suburbia. Jesus Christ!

  4. Oh, piss off Blind Freddie.

1 – Neither Rann nor Della EVER set themselves up as ‘family values’ politicians. If they had, fair enough, but they never have.

2 – Neither Rann nor Della were the ones who ran off to the media chasing a wad of cash for publicly airing their sins and damaging their illicit partners in the process.

I’ve no doubt what you’ve been doing plenty of to lose your sight, that’s for sure.

  5. At worst Rann is guilty of showing a lack of judgement in “special friends” but frankly what he gets up to in his private lives in none of our business. I don’t buy that he was in a position of power because she worked in the parliamentary dining room (especially given that by her own admission the affair wasn’t against her will). That the woman in question’s marriage dissolved due to infidelity is her problem not Rann’s, he was not married to her husband. If Rann has been unfaithful to his wife then again that is an issue for them but not for the wider public. I don’t see how it is any different to the Letterman case where he may have had a case to answer to his wife re affairs with staff but he is not accountable to the viewers, media or anyone else for what he does in his private life (if it is consensual of course).

Chantelois ought to be ashamed of herself though giving such a mucky interview given that she has children that will inevitably see such coverage. She also did her ex-husband no favours.

Politicians do seem to have a penchant for bunny boilers don’t they?

  9. Blue Dog Patriot – Firstlty, Della and Rann just get paid a sh*tload of $$ to f*ck women in their parliamentary taxpayer funded offices – they should pay us taxpayers the cost of a hotel room for that! Secondly, Rann did run on a campaign of family values and the “Australian Story” segment on the Della Bosca’s was so “close knit” family, etc. You are one dog that needs neutering!

  10. Mark Riley has (if you’ll excuse the pun) blown any credibility he has as a serious political journalist.

This is tabloid tripe at its worst. Who cares if some bored housewife cheats on her husband? Is it our business? No, it is not.

What is troubling is that here is a woman who cheats on her spouse. Sooks about it to the media, gets paid a very large sum of money and then blames Mike Rann!!

Does anyone think that is a little screwed up?

Of course, TVLand tsk tsks Rann as being an abusive man, using his “power” to wreck this poor barmaid’s life. Did Rann use Rohypnol? Did he hypnotise this woman into their affiar? No, it was consensual and she has now profited from it.

We are becoming as puritanical as the Yanks!

  13. Freddie, you may be blind but you’re also motivated by greed and envy. Who cares how much someone gets paid? By your logic it’ be okay for someone working 2 days a week at a local council to behave abominably, because they don’t get paid much…how pathetic.

There is no suggestion from anyone, not Chantelois or anybody else, that the ALLEGED affair distracted Rann from his job or detracted from his performance. SO its none of the taxpayers’ business on any level.

Who cares what happened on Australian Story? That was in response to a poltically motivated smear job by a couple of bar owners and a bent JP, and was AFTER Della had ended his affair. Who’s to say they hadn;t reconciled and were happy families by then.

    Keep grasping at straws, Frederick.

Posted by Blue Dog Patriot | November 23, 2009, 13:07
  14. I am amazed at how many people think that this affair has nothing to do with Mike Rann’s role as Premier.

Ms Chantelois husband Rick Phillips should have expected more from Mike Rann. Mike Rann for whatever reason engaged himself in a sexual relationship with another man’s wife. Then after the damage was done, mike Rann did not even have the decency to front up to Mr Phillips and give an explanation for why he found it necessary to destroy his marriage and family.

This is not just a private matter regarding Mr Rann’s sex life. This is a matter of political accountability. Do politicians reserve the right to destroy a man’s marriage and family without having to give account of themselves?

If our politicians are allowed to make fair game of our wives whilst working alongside them and do not have any consequences to fear because ‘it is their own business’, then I for one wouldn’t want my wife anywhere near them.

Did she cum and if she did how many times?

  20. Dissident calls it straight – an ALP politician ruining a marriage and the lives of small children. Good on the bitch for making profit from Rann’s stupidity and arrogance! How the hell is Mike Rann responsible for someone else’s marriage? And why do you think Rann should ‘front up’ to Phillips? You seem to think women are chattel…

Any Blind Freddy, Della and Rann get paid to DO THEIR JOBS, which they have been doing! Anything outside of work is not our business, as we don’t pay them then. Reading some of these comments makes me think some of you want bosses to own their workers’ lives – in effect slavery. Because that’s the only working relationship where an employer has a say over the private lives of employees. 27. Where Media Mike is stuffed is that he has been caught lying.

    1. Claimed he didn’t have sex with her, as recently as last week(and obviously has);
    2. Claimed he did not know who the bloke who hit him was (and did)
    3. Claimed he could not talk about the assault because the guy had been charged (and hadn’t been and could of.

He has been masterfully stitched up by Mark Riley and Ch 7 and if he does not step down, you get the feeling that they have a whole lot more up their sleeve to drag this on for week after week.

His other problem is that although the sex was consensual, he was breaking up a family which many will take a dim view of. This point he can’t seem to deny because of the letters from the husband. If the Libs had any brains in SA, they would have lodged and FoI for the letter first thing this morning on the hope that they were sent to the Premier’s office.

I fail to see how this is relevant to the general public. Bob Hawke came out publicly crying on Clive Robertsons show many years ago and admitted he cheated on his wife and got re-elected a couple more times….big deal.

Mike Rann cheated on who, oh yes, his girlfriend. Bad boy let’s send him over to the naughty corner. That is definitely justification for being sacked! Michelle of course cheated on her husband due we are told because of a “court case” with no more details than that.

But this is the interesting part of the whole story. “Riley’s judgmental tone in this story was certainly enough to have a Gallery wags muttering last night about double standards. We’ll probably not go there.” ANDY PLEASE GO THERE! A bit of justice is needed in this whole mess.

It’s time some of the gutter crawling low-life in the media were flushed.

The only people who were should resign over this are the editors, chiefs of staff and journalist involved in this despicable invasion into people’s personal life.

The question that needs to be asked here is would the media have still paid $200,000 if what she had to say is that nothing happened between them?

If not, then this amounts to potential bribery and corruption. Maybe if we have to have an ICAC it’s brief should include the media!!!!

1 – Neither Rann nor Della EVER set themselves up as ‘family values’ politicians. If they had, fair enough, but they never have.

This is not entirely true. There is Rann’s Ministerial Code Of Conduct, which among many other things states that Ministers must ensure that their conduct is consistent with the “dignity, reputation and integrity of Parliament”, and also more importantly that,

Ministers are expected to act honestly, diligently and with propriety in the performance of their public duties and functions. Ministers must ensure they do not deliberately mislead the public or the Parliament on any matter of significance arising from their functions.

I think it is safe to say that if proven guilty Mike had fallen short of the standards he himself helped to set up.

  54. Everyone lies sooner or later. What matters is, what did they lie about. If Rann actually did the deed, so to speak, so what? He was single. Her marital relationship was already on the collapse. His sex life as a single person with another consenting adult is not our concern.

SA was a wowser state a century ago. Time goes by, a lot has changed since. If we can put up with a premier who was openly homosexual and wore pink shorts, we can certainly bear the thought of a single premier possibly having a sex life.

I’m concerned this much by Rann’s actions on this matter:
    -> <-

Is it only political bias when the other party has a mole, Malcolm?

More than anything I've heard concerning politician's behaviour this past year the actions of politicians who seemingly colluded with Godwin Grech has created concern for me. If any one event should cause a politician to resign, corruption of the public service should be it.

The public service has nothing if it doesn't have its integrity.
