CLIMATE CRAZY: Mad Mal calls meeting then ignores result

A Liberal patriot writes about the extraordinary if not completely lunatic Liberal party room activities this evening:

When Turnbull left joint party-room prior at about 7.00PM, MPs and Senators indicated indicated opposition to the ETS deal with the Rudd Governemnt with 41 to 33 votes. The Leader argued he has the shadow cabinet votes – 20 – and therefore enough to carry victory for the deal. The manner in which he walked from the debate infuriates 41 MPs with 33 left in dismay.

Returning to 8.00 PM to the debate, Turnbull continued to argue he won the vote but Coalition critics point out that shadow cabinet was divided  – 14 to 6 votes in favour of the ETS deal. With 47 votes each, Turnbull defiantly argues that the leadership has the final say.

It gets weirder when Senator Nick Minchin offered a face-saving compromise of sending off the ETS legislation to a Senate Committee. Again Malcolm Turnbull rejected the post Copenhagen tactic outright.

Abbott also attempted a compromise but Christopher Pyne said the leader’s decision should be respected. Both Minchin and Abbott continue to argue for compromise. (In the party room, Hockey is on the fence… typical … but has been privately bullying waverers.)

Turnbull simply left the party room with Wilson’s Tuckey’s parting comments being ‘You were just a care taker leader and you are mad!’ (Might take one to know one)

Turnbull then fronted a press conference to declare victory and avoided answering the question.

Wilson Tuckey has already lodged a formal letter for a spill on Thursday.

It is expected that Hockey, Andrews and Abbott will announce their ambitions tomorrow. Andrews is completely open about it.

The mood among MPs and Senators is not one of acrimony but of surrealism and otherworldliness.

This mess transcends crisis.

  1. Malcolm – you fool.

How did you become managing partner of Goldman Sachs?

    You can’t count.

Your puppet Brandis is also a joke. How can he lie about the numbers with such a straight face?

  3. Turnbull will still lead the Coalition to the next election – he will lose, lose badly, resign the leadership and leave the parliament.

Poor fellow, the Federal Liberal Party.

  4. It is blatantly obvious that the Libs don’t believe in climate change, the issue here is that they wont stand up and say this.

If they at least stood for something they would get respect and votes from the silent majority that think its all a left wing con!

  8. There goes the ABC again with another typical alarmist report from some uni department that goes along the lines “the effects of climate change are even worse than previously thought”.

It seems like the alarmist are in a race to the bottom to see who can create the direst prediction.

  11. The Copenhagen Diagnosis:
Sobering Update on the Science

Ahead of talks in Copenhagen, a group of leading climate scientists has issued a new report summarizing the most recent research findings from around the world and concluding that scientists have underestimated the pace and extent of global warming. The report — titled “The Copenhagen Diagnosis” — finds that in several key areas observed changes are outstripping the most recent projections by the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and warns that “there is a very high probability of the warming exceeding 2 °C unless global emissions peak and start to decline rapidly” within the next decade.

  12. I don’t believe in Climate change. But i’ve learnt to keep this opinion to myself. It does’t help when trying to pick up chicks.

And arguing with people like FCDM (above) is nausiating. I just give a knowing frown, tilt my head, and give it a little shake when they tell me about their fears of drowning or whatever.

Its a shame, I liked Malc.

  15. Climate change is the greatest con of all time. Look at who leads the charge and see what involvement they have in the solar and wind industry. If this goes ahead Australia’s manufacturing will almost cease as energy will be too expensive and unemployment will go through the roof.
This is all about Rudd getting the united nations leadership thats all.Zeig Heil!!
