BACK TO HIS ROOTS: Erik Locke appointed Alan Griffin’s chief of staff

eriklocke Shrewd lefty federal Veterans Affairs Minister Alan Griffin has made a curious move appointing former ALP state secretary, lobbyist and CBD bar owner Erik Locke to become his chief of staff.

Locke – a devoted anti Kim Carr leftiste – has been close chums with Griffin for a long time and was married to Jess Sumich before realising he batted for the other side.

THE LOVABLE ALAN GRIFFIN
Griffin understandably dislikes VEXNEWS probes of his personal life but enjoys our high regard due to his allegiance to the Essendon Football Club, his involvement in electing excellent Senator Steve Fielding and his previous support for Kim Beazley.

But it cannot escape mention in this high forum of lefty scrutiny after Locke and a former Latham chief of staff had enjoyed the company of Ms Sumich that the Minister himself also struck up a close personal friendship with the Locke-ex.

leetarlamis Indeed so much so that the Minister’s landlord and co-habitant, the highly tolerant yet beefy Lee Talarmis is believed to have remarked to comrades like Andrew Giles that their love-making was so noisy he thought Sumich was teaching the increasingly slimline Griffin aerobics Oz style.

The exercise was so rigorous that Griffin told friends he had lost half his body weight.

Isn’t it sweet they have all remained friends since then?

MOVING ON UP
Locke has clearly kicked on from his failed state secretaryship of the party. Accused by some of a knowing concern in a failed lefty blog that denigrated patriots before its demise, Locke seems to have done quite well at CPR Communications as a lobbyist for various property developers and then chanced his arm at a CBD bar, Cabinet.

Lefty insiders say Locke “bet the farm” on the success of the venture, sinking many hundreds of thousands of his and other people’s money into renovating the small venue and operating at a substantial loss for some time. They report Locke was in the habit of wearing brown undies during that period.

Locke plays both sides of the aisle in Labor politics, not just genders. He professes friendships with several prominent Labor Right figures including patriot Jeff Jackson, Rory Sercombe, Conrad French, Andres Puig, Tom Cargill and several others.

Several of them are regulars at Cabinet these days, savouring the pink cocktails and exotic beers.

Cabinet struggled in its early days but is believed to have turned around after the construction of a smokers’ balcony, so much so that Locke has had time to return to his first love, the cut and thrust of politics.

  5. Erik Locke once ran an unpatriotic blog that sought to denigrate a great man. The blog enjoyed contributions from the office of Robert Doyle when he was Opposition Leader.

Doyle had trouble getting his press releases looked at by the Left-leaning Age media, and to a lesser extent even by News Ltd journos. Doyle’s motivation in using Locke’s blog was to get journos to read his press releases, and he often succeeded.

One of Doyle’s most notable contributions on the Locke blog was to advise local government voters not to vote for Labor candidates or their dummies.

Ironically Doyle owes his success as Lord Mayor to just those candidates, some Labor genuines (like McMuffin) and some Labor dummies.
