As several VEXNEWS commenters correctly observed, relying on Eureka Street’s website as being an accurate source of online comments appears to be an unwise thing to do.
We reported yesterday “Convicted terrorist David Hicks has been spending his time denouncing Israel as the “Zionist entity” and an “occupier” in an online forum. David Hicks is currently the subject of a control order after an Australian court ruled there was a risk he could take part in a terrorist act.”
In fact, the control order prevents Hicks from accessing the internet at all, his legal advisers have told VEXNEWS. They will be taking the issue up with Eureka Street directly.
They insist the comments appearing here on the Eureka Street website are a forgery. The forged comments appeared on the Eureka Street website on the seventh anniversary of the terror attacks on the United States on the eleventh of September.
The disturbing comments can be found here and gave every appearance of being from Hicks.
VEXNEWS understands that someone posting in the guise of “David Hicks” (for example explaining that he hadn’t finished high school) for some time in what amounts to a serious case of identity theft.
The publication of the forgeries by Eureka Street, a highly regarded publication owned by the Jesuits, misled a number of people including the federal MP for Melbourne Ports, Michael Danby who was concerned about the anti-Israel nature of the commentary.
The confusion was understandable though given Hicks’ form.
Hick’s solution to suicide bombing and Arab opposition to Israel’s existence (regardless of concessions) is repeated again and again in Eureka Street “what stops the Zionist State returning the occupied territory?”
A British former Guantanamo inmate of Hicks, Feroz Abbasi, claimed that Hicks said he wanted to “go back to Australia and rob and kill Jews.” He then stated “I know that I would get caught eventually, but I’d have to do it anyway.” Abbasi also described Hicks as “Al-Qaeda’s 24 carat Golden Boy.” These claims were later detailed in Time magazine in early 2007.
Hicks has made clear that he wished to “crash a plane into a building”, and “go out with that last big adrenalin rush”, and that “if he were to go into a building of Jews with an automatic weapon or as a suicide bomber”, he would want to see the look on their faces before he killed them.
The infamous ‘Jihad Diary’ was also written by Hicks and sent home to Adelaide from Afghanistan. In it, he wrote that Satan was aligned with Western society, which was “full of poison” introduced by Jews. “Muslims fight against Jews and they kill them,” he also stated, claiming to be quoting an Islamic text, the Book of Hadith.
interesting but I would be very careful about believeing this commenter to be David Hicks. Surely even he would have the good sense to not publish such extreme comments? It would destroy his cause and any public sympathy for him.
Going off to fight with the Taliban and trying to join AQ doesn’t suggest Hicks has much in the way of “good sense”
That said, I’m dubious about whether it’s really David Hicks. More likely some lefty uni student who thinks that he’s a “Hero”
Hicks is a convicted terrorist. He is filth.
Convicted– i do not think so. Certainly not by any legal process that i understand to apply in this country. I am more scared at the existence of people like “Anon” in our society, than i am of Mr Hicks.
