The Australian’s rising star Rick Wallace is to push off from the Melbourne bureau of the Australian very soon. He has been a brilliant, younger and considerably less dishevelled version of Sydney’s Imre Salusinsky and developed quite a strong reputation for telling it how it is in reporting Vic politics in the nation’s best broadsheet.
He cultivated some excellent sources causing him to regularly trump the better-resourced competition. More than that though, he brought a formerly country lad’s common-sense and fair approach to reporting on the tomfoolery of Spring Street which impressed very many on all sides, with the possible exception of Ted Baillieu.
The up and comer Milanda Rout has replaced him and Rick has gone to the business section to sup on sake and sushi with sleazy brokers as part of his preparation for life in Tokyo in the News Corporation penthouse in Shinjuku where its visiting correspondent is waited on hand and foot by obliging and dainty geisha girls in kimono, hand-fed thinly sliced fresh fish and treated in a manner reminiscent of James Bond’s visit to Nihon in the immortal You Only Live Twice. Sadly much of that is made up in keeping with the claims of some in the meeja that VEXNEWS is a gossip site. Which parts we made up, we’re not saying.
What is true though is that these overseas gigs are only given to the best and brightest and seem to be part of News Corp’s career development for their high flyers so big things are expected of Wallace-san.
Joel Fitzgibbon must resign. Now!
He shouldn’t be given the opportunity to resign. Hang the b*stard for treason.
Ah so! Mr Fitzgibbon is good man!
Weak as piss Andrew.
You have one comment on this thread that is relevant to the topic and you have chosen not to publish.
Protecting one of your mates from some minor negative comment is just another reason for me to come to the conclusion that you are no better than the pathetic hacks that masquerade as journalists in the State Gallery.
Weak as piss.
Steady down Flopsy. AL doesn’t do that – as you well know.
He does have some biases but like any good journo, won’t let his personal views become a filter.
Thanks for your gratuitous advice Noel.
Note the comment still not up – what a cosy little insiders club it must be!
Weak as piss Andrew.
