PATRIOT NATION: Australians love their country more than anyone else in the world

patriotnation2 The Economist has reported on a poll by the Reputation Institute, a branding consultancy, that reveals Australians are more patriotic than any other people on Earth.

Their poll reveals:

People (in 33 countries) were asked to rate their trust, admiration, respect and pride in their country. The results are presented as an index. By this measure, Australians are almost as exuberant about their country as they are about sport, and lead the list.

They are followed closely by Canadians. Americans, normally a patriotic and positive bunch, are perhaps being affected by the recession. The limited self-regard of Brazilians belies their reputation as a sunny, carefree people, but the Japanese are gloomiest of all.

This is great news and I think while we have our issues, it’s not surprising our love of country should be so strong.

The custom of young people proudly wearing the Australian flag as a garment or cape shows that especially among young patriots they are immensely proud of the place they call home. Good job.

  1. The hundreds of boat people arriving on our shores every month threatens to change the face of Australia. We are under threat from social and economic migrants but a leftist Rudd Government panders to these illegal immigrants.

  3. Come on Andrew. Make the distinction between loving your country and crass displays of nationalism.

  4. Let’s just hope that the knitwits like the person who commented above don’t dominate our country.

Patriotism has its place, stupidity doesnt.

  5. Anonymous, you need treatment. I have group sessions available with either my Afghanis clients who are suffering from many disorders due to war, or my National Party clients who have multiple personality disorders. Your delusions would fit in with either.

Yeah, but don’t you think wearing the flag like a Superman cape denigrates it?

Flags should be treated with respect, flown correctly, lowered correctly. Wearing a flag, or worse yet wearing items of clothing such as undies, with flag designs is not “patriotic”, it’s disrespectful.

  7. So Australia should be a dumping ground for the billions living in poverty?
How much room do we have and how much do you want the taxpayer to cough up?

  8. Patriotism is as vile as racism. I love to wipe my arse with a paper flag.

  12. As much as I love my country and all that it represents the hard fact is that the influx of non-christians over the last 25 years has seen us embark on a social experiment of nation changing proportions. We are heading down the same track as England and all the problems that now confront them.

People who see Christians as non-believers / infidels and wish to wage a “holy war” are never going to be an asset to Australia. That conbined with a welfare receipt attitude and the establishment of race dominated ghettoes is the beginning of the end of our great nation.

Tribalism and alpha male behaviour is now rife in the younger generation and hatred (at least, lack of tolerance) will escalate in the decades to come.

Our openness to the world has created a sore that will fester well beyond our lifetimes. Perhaps we should have learnt our lessons from the introduction of the rabbit, fox & cane toads.

  14. Lets face it, racially homogenious cultures exist in many places in the world, China, Japan etc. But where you get mixed cultures ie in all “western countries” you get conflict.

Multiculturalism doesnt work. A social experiment set to plague nations for centuries.

  15. Perhaps we should ethnically cleanse, Yugoslavia style?

  16. Since when did it become acceptable to use the Australian flag as a scarf, burqa, cape, bikini, towel or item of Big Day Out apparel?

My old scout group taught me that the only place for a flag is on a pole between sunrise and sunset. It wasn’t meant to touch the ground.

And my old scout master would have had these John-Howard-inspired “flag-heads” (as opposed to rag-heads) shot at dawn for disrespecting the national symbol.

  21. Whoever said that Japan and China are racially diverse societies needs to wake up to themselves. Clearly you have never visited either as a foreigner,or your perception would be drastically different.
Japan is the most racist country in the first world.
China is the least tolerant third world country there is.

We are the most tolerant first world nation of all, even beyond the US and Britain.
Anyone who doubts that fact need only drive down the main street of any big city and see just how diverse our population is.

Australians have much to be proud of,and nothing to be ashamed of.
