SHANDY SOUFFLE PUFFS UP: Adam Shand jokes he’s “disappointed” his former cricket coach Peter Roebuck didn’t beat him

AdamshandLast time we tangled with Adam Shand, he was defending the honour and purity of a very dodgy character at the Victorian Ombudsman’s office, Lachlan McCullough, a former drug squad cop who is used by them to rough up and yell at councillors and cardigans who get probed by the Ombudsman.

Many suspected Shand was keen to prop up the tenure of the controversial and erratic McCullough, as he was a potential source of leaks in that very leaky office.

We were appalled at the time, but got over it after giving him a much deserved takedown or two and he was eventually moved on from the Sunday Herald Sun where most agreed he was found wanting after promising the world. He was apparently not impressed with our reporting at the time and continues to be unimpressed with our first with the worst approach, according to well-informed sources.

Shand has been out and about defending the virtue of another dubious character, the late Fairfax/ABC cricket commentator Peter Roebuck. He explained that Roebuck had been his cricket coach at the elite Sydney private school, Cranbrook, many years ago, where the annual school fees are around $30,000 a year these days, nearly $50K if you are boarder.

In an interview with Triple M’s Eddie McGuire earlier this week, Shand made light of the victims of Roebuck’s physical abuse when he said in jest that we was ‘disappointed’ that Roebuck hadn’t “paddy-whacked” him in the same way that had led to his criminal convictions for assault. Yeh, haha. Not sure the victims of the attacks would be laughing.

He also went to expound a theory that it was possible South African police threw Roebuck out the window. He even made a joke with Eddie along the lines that he didn’t think people should “jump to conclusions” on Roebuck. Hilarious – not.

He acknowledged Roebuck was a “tightly wrapped bloke” but didn’t elaborate on that.

You can listen for yourself here to Shand’s disgraceful remarks. They’re not cricket.

  1. Shand is a disgusting pig. Finds sexual monsters and their victims funny does he?

Cant wait to see the reception he gets cracking jokes about pedophiles Robert “Dolly” Dunn, Mr Cruel or Mr Stinky.

Victims of sexual deviants must be in tears of laughter (or pain) you decide which.

  2. Shand and his kind go to a $30k-$50k a year school then go to “work” and quasi-intellectuals writing pieces about the poor and underprivileged.

Shand try this -> donate your money and life of privilege to those who are without.

Or just carrying on commenting on the hardships of the poor from your high position of wealth.

Look-up the word “hypocrite” in the dictionary and the definition reads “Adam Shand”.

  7. These were all adult mem selling their talent for money. What was their talent, apart from homosexuality, being able to take a good caning which the education system in Zimbabwe teaches them.
Anyone, man or women who moves in with a rich older man for money is usually called a gold digger.

  8. Dear Andy,

And I happen to believe it is exploitation of the basest kind, and if you are of similar bent, I hope you too get to do the triple with pike from the sixth floor sometime soon ….. (you fuckin’ tool)

  9. I heard that pea-heart John Brogden bleating on ABC PM on Friday night about the media publishing the fact that Roebuck had committed suicide and the method of suicide.
A little hypocritical of PM given that PM host Mark Colvin had been speculating on Twitter that the cops might have tossed Roebuck out the window.
For the avoidnace of doubt …. Roebuck committed suicide.
He jumped out the window and damaged the awning of the hotel.
    It was unassisted.

If you don’t want any reporting, don’t spread bullshit Mark.

  10. Hey Andy,

No-one is suggesting that Roebuck was simply engaged in a bit of cash for copulation here.
Let me explain it to you.
    (1) Roebuck enticed a young Zimbabwean man to his hotel, ostensibly to discuss Roebuck helping him with his career and education.
    (2) Young Zimbabwean man accuses Roebuck of SEXUAL ASSAULT (in case you are wondering Andy, that is a CRIME, not a transaction).
    (3) Saffie Plod put allegations to Roebuck
    (4) Roebuck immediately enters a 75 foot guilty plea

    Got it now????

  11. mind you, the south african plod do have a history of defenestration. not sticking up for sex predators, merely allowing for the shadow of a doubt as to police involvement.

  12. Andy … was that reference to “adult mem” a touch Fruedian.
You weren’t subconsciously conjuring up images of Mem Fox’s hubby when you were thinking of the subject matter?

I’m looking for a problem here …. nope, can’t find one.

  14. dear Toad of Toad Hall, you lost the debate a week ago. By the end of next week you will reflect on how Roebuck and his supporters have abused your better angels by misplacing your sympathies in a criminal (suspended sentence for assault, yes, criminal is the right word).

  16. Toad of Toad Hall-
(1)A man was told by another ex student who knew students living at the house in SA.
(2)The man contacted RB online and asked if he too could live at the house.
(3)RB asked the man to come to his hotel room, “AND BRING A STICK IN CASE HE NEEDED TO BE BEATEN”
    (4) The man went, and spent two hours talking in the hotel bedroom,so he says, with his punishment stick I presume.
(5)He claims that he was then ‘tricked’ into getting undressed,
I think at this point most Judges would throw the case out, and he was then attacked. No screaming, no violence, fighting, bruises, etc.
    (6) The man gets dressed and leaves the hotel.
I think you must be a bit naive if you believe this. Would you go to a hotel room to meet a man who told you to bring a stick with you so that he could beat you ??
Maybe you would, it souds like he wanted money, and sill wants money.

  17. I think the 75 foot vertical guilty plea says it all

Posted by Toad of Toad Hall | November 22, 2011, 8:39
  18. Bullshit Andy (and I’m not sure why you are defending this sicko).
The request to get undressed was put to the poor lad as a kind of initiation test … “we have no secrets in our family … to be part of the family we must share our innermost secrets … blah, blah, blah”
Has all the hallmarks of pedo grooming, then entrapment, then pressure, then CRIMINAL ACT.

If the kid was after money, why didn’t he just put it on Roebuck. If you are blackmailing someone, the last thing you do is go to the cops – the whole premise of blackmail is payment to preserve secrecy.

Nope, no matter how much you and his mates at Fairfax and the ABC bleat, Roebuck was bent like Uri Geller’s cutlery.

  20. I agree with Toad of Toad Hall. Andy, you appear to have a soft sport for Roebuck, bless you. Where would this come from? How can you defend him by arguing that they were men rather than boys? These boys (generally had no parents, no money, no prospects, no home, no experience, no taste of the western advantage in life, probably no prospects for girlfriends or starting a family – must I go on – in a disadvantaged country of a disadvantaged race and you blame THEM for Roebuck throwing himself out the window or, rather, that these boys/men were suspect in their hope that someone offering the promise of a glimpse of a better future, would be bona fide. I don’t care if these boys came to the hotel room with a party hat, Roebuck in a position of power, was abusing that power and knew he was abusing that power. I can only say anything else is out the window and he was responsible for his own fall from grace. The world is a better place.

  21. I am not defending Roebuck, but you cannot pedo groom a university educated 26 year old. They were disadvantaged men, in most of these poor countries men and women turn to prostitution to just keep themselves alive, and help their families. Its not right, but you don’t see first world countries rushing to help. Adults have to make a choice, and who are we to stop them. Maybe some of these men went back home, with their university degree to help other trapped in poverty. Far worse is happening in places like India where child labour is used.
