THUGS: CFMEU suspected in attack on West Gate boss’s home and threats to kill him

The presence of Geelong based bikies at the West Gate picket is spiralling out of control with reports in the Herald Sun this afternoon by the young yet canny Nick Higginbottom that thugs has attacked a VicRoads supervisor’s home in a move designed to intimidate him.

It’s a scandalous report that highlights the increasing disconnect of the ALP affiliated Construction division of the CFMEU and the civilised world.

They essentially have threatened to kill him if they don’t get their own way.

How much lower does this union need to go before it is disaffiliated from the ALP and given the same brutal treatment meted out to the BLF in Victoria after its officials were found to have engaged in enough corruption to make Ferdinand Marcos envious.

Here’s the Hun’s exclusive and disturbing report.

UNION thugs threatened a VicRoads supervisor when they attacked his home and hurled a brick through a window with a menacing note.

The thugs also allegedly slashed his car’s tyres, cut off the electricity to his home and used a hack sawed through his water valve in a violent show of intimidation .

The alleged attack happened on Thursday afternoon at the supervisor’s home.

The note attached to the brick was addressed to “John Holland Scab” and allegedly threatened him to stop work on the West Gate Bridge and said “We will be watching you”.

“We know where you live … we know what you drive,” the note read.

“Save the West Gate … Save our jobs … Don’t let history repeat. Stop with the scabs. We know what you do. We will win this. We always do.

“We have your photo. We know what you do. Put a stop to all this now. We will be watching you.”

He is working on the troubled West Gate Bridge upgrade, which includes erecting anti-suicide barriers as part of the John Holland-managed project that unions have held up in recent weeks.

The latest incident has again brought the troubled-plagued West Gate upgrade project to a standstill.

Last week a man plummeted to his death from the bridge while union tactics had stopped work on the barriers.

A resolution was made for talks between the unions and project manager John Holland, but they have broken down again.

A pay claim of a $10-an-hour increase is at the centre of the dispute with the Construction Forestry Mining and Engineering Union and the Australian Manufacturing Workers Union behind the push.

It’s also been claimed the unions have employed bikie gangs as muscle for their stand-over tactics.

Shadow Industrial Relations Minister Robert Clark called on Premier John Brumby to publicly condemn the unions’ violent and illegal behaviour.

“John Brumby needs to take tough action against union intimidation and thuggery to stop Victoria sinking back into an industrial Dark Age of union militancy and disruption,” Mr Clark said.

“Victorians would be disgusted that an innocent VicRoads employee and his family have been subject to violence, intimidation and threats simply because he is doing his job on behalf of the community.

VicRoads spokeswoman Mary Fall this afternoon confirmed there had been an incident involving an employee.

“VicRoads understands the matter has been referred to police,” she said.

Victoria Police told the Herald Sun they were looking into the matter, but said they had no intelligence to suggest bikies had been involved.

  1. There are millions of suspects. Melbournians spend half their lives in traffic jams thanks to the negligence of VicRoads.

I would like to see them all publicly whipped along the West Gate “freeway”, the Western Ring Road and other clogged thoroughfares too numerous to mention!

  2. Can someone please tell me why the CFMEU spend members funds sponsoring the Canberra Raiders football team?

Is this the best use of members funds?

  5. All the soy chai latte sipping do-gooder bleeding hearts who wail about the ABCC should be made to sit down at the Westgate!

  7. Although it is irreevant to the above argument, the sponsorship funds for the Raiders actually come from the licensced Canberra clubs, and the CFMEU just gets its name on the front of the jersey. No funds come from the organisation itself to the Raiders.

Im not defending West Gate tactics, just replying to the comment above.

  10. No wonder we can’t have anti outlaw biker laws or a crime commission in Victoria. I wonder if the ALP will hire bikers to hand out how you must vote cards at the next election.
