WHAT THE: Iemma quits

Michael Costa has been spreading the news with his friends at the Daily Telegraph that NSW Premier Morris Iemma was to go. And how right he was.

The NSW Labor caucus is set to meet imminently.

The Right caucus was a bloody spectacle with powerbrokers and former allies Eddie Obeid and Joe Tripodi say “enough is enough”.

It follows repeated speculation that Iemma would be forced out because of bad polling, messy handling of the electricity privatisation and an unprecedented level of internal crisis.

The outgoing Treasurer has dropped a number of devastating bombs in a presser where he said the state’s finances were in a very bad state, with a $300 million blowout in health costs and other serious problems.

The solution to the problem is apparently the former Chief of Staff to convicted pedophile Labor minister Milton Orkopoulos, Nathan Rees. Rees is believed not to have known what his former boss was up to. Hopefully the former minister will be “on-message” when asked about by inquisitive and pesky journalists.

A dark horse possibility for leader is the Right’s Frank Sartor, insiders say. The former Sydney Lord Mayor has been instrumental in the move on Morris and will either receive a major promotion – possibly to Treasurer – or even get the nod for the top job.

  1. Pity. Iemma stood for the right things and always seemed to me to be a good man.

I don’t see dumping Iemma as having the party though.

  2. Iemma has shown himself to be a class act. He could have attacked everyone but instead he has supported party unity and the new Premier.

The NSW ALP head office will regret this act of utter treachery. They believe in nothing except their own desire to maintain control.

  3. How great it is that we now have a new Premier. Iemma should never have thought he could turn his back on the Party. Or the unions. Rees is a union-friendly, smart politician. He will surprise a lot of people and the big loser will be Barry O’Farrell!

  4. This is what happens when the Right wing is in control. This debarcle would never happen under the socialist left faction.

  5. Costa had to go.

So did a few other Ministers, but maybe he shoudl gone after Tripodi and Obeid.

Iemma was knifed by by Eddie Obeid and Joe Tripodi. he was actually trying to do what was necessary to keep labor in power in NSW. But they were prepared to scarifice their faction and their party (the ineterests of the people of NSW didn’t even enter into their thoughts) to maintain their power over the ‘honeypot’.

Iemma has saved these two cretins in the past when they should have been hung out to dry. I guess it’s one of those bad judgements that come back to haunt you.

  6. Shows exactly how little talent they really do have, to be honest. The whole lot need to go.
