WOW: Selfless hero helps track down rapist, then gives $17000 reward to victim

Lloyd-Gardner_1499421c A twenty-two year old English restaurant manager Lloyd Gardner received a $17000 reward for helping Police locate a vicious rapist and gave the lot to the rapist’s victim.

He works at a Wagamama Japanese restaurant and is paid $700 a week.

Gardner gave every dollar to the victim of the attack, who has been told that she will not fully recover from her injuries that left her brain-damaged and using a wheelchair. The hero told the Times of London:

“I didn’t feel like I’d earned it,” he said. “The fact that such a horrific thing happened to that lady, I thought it would benefit her life more than it would mine. I just wanted to try and improve her standard of life. It is a huge amount of money but I’ve been lucky throughout my life — she nearly died and was left in a horrendous state after the attack.

“I thought the money would go a lot further to improve her situation. I just wanted to help in any way possible and I hope this has done that.”

The hero told the BBC:

“I was told I was entitled to a reward because I gave police the lead they needed as I recognised the two girls and through them detectives were able to track the man down. I would have probably spent it on an expensive car or something which doesn’t seem right so I am happy with my decision

“…It is a lot of money and it would have been very helpful but I didn’t feel like a deserved it at all.

And the Telegraph:

“I just wanted to try and improve her standard of life. It is a huge amount of money but I’ve been lucky throughout my life – she nearly died and was left in a horrendous state after the attack.

So much for the cliche about “Generation Y” selfishness.
