YOU GO GIRL: Bronwyn Bishop endorses Sophie Mirabella for PM “one day”

NSW Liberal MP and one-time party leadership contender Bronwyn Bishop has endorsed fast-rising Opposition Industry spokesman Sophie Mirabella as Prime Ministerial material.

The ABC reports Bishop told2GB’s Alan Jones:

Ms Bishop says she is sure there will be a female prime minister “one day”, and has touted fellow frontbencher Sophie Mirabella and parliamentary newcomer Kelly O’Dwyer as women who will go far in politics.

Bishop was keen muscle in on Jones’ repeated and quirky endorsement of Gillard, who hails from the Labor Left but is increasingly seen as a pragmatic and sensible prospective leader.

Ms Bishop told Jones: “I would see her being from the left wing of the Labor Party, truly a socialist who has taken to wearing pearls.”

Bishop and Mirabella are both known to wear pearls with a degree of assertion that startles some on-lookers. Every good patriot woman should own a pair, our Canberra Liberal sources say, inspired by the example of the dynamic duo.

  2. We can only hope so. The Liberal Party needs more solid conservative women, strong on economics and social issues. Let’s hope more of them enter into parliament to musle dead-weights, like Marie Ficcara, out.

  3. There’s nothing quirky about “Jones’ endorsement” of Gillard. He’s simply using her to undermine Rudd.Gillard has been getting a soft interview on Jones’ program a couple of times a week.He gives her free reign, rarely interrupts and doesn’t contradict.Rudd on the other hand is slagged off at every opportunity and when he tried to get on the program a week or so ago Jones effectively told him to piss off.Since then Jones has increased his attacks on Rudd and Gillard is made more than welcome.

  10. Not to worry Alex, Bronny won’t be around for much longer…

Then the people of Mackellar will be ably served by Mark Lewis MP, the new member for Mackellar.
