FIGHTING WEIGHT: Patriot Brian Burke slims down to box on against his vile enemies

brianburkefreedom After years of vilification and harassment from the notorious Western Australian Corruption and Crime Commission, former Premier Brian Burke has trimmed down to fighting weight to confront his accusers in the courts.

There is a rising tide of public resentment and concern about the conduct of the Corruption Commission, which has been likened by some to the French revolutionary Committee of Public Safety. There are two excellent blogs here and here operating in the state where too many live in fear that merely opposing this dreadful Commission will cause their email and telephones to be monitored by it abusing its Stasi style powers.

A one-time titan of the Labor Right who wrestled control of the WA Labor Party from leftist control, Brian Burke yesterday asked for a “fair go” in the hearing of the Commission’s accusations against him.

We have to start to wonder about a process where a former Premier has to plead for that ahead of a trial. It’s pretty clear he has little faith in the process that’s brought him to court. And given the Commission’s form who can doubt him?

It seems very doubtful to us that after the Commission has so desperately and comprehensively tried to blacken that his name in public that a fair trial could ever occur in that state.

If it were legally possible, it would be well worth considering trying Burke elsewhere where the CCC’s thuggish tactics would be seen for what they are.

In Western Australian bookshops, there is a vile and hateful tome, a purported biography of Brian Burke titled “Godfather“. The author Quentin Beresford is at pains in the book to say he didn’t mean to link him with gangsters/organised crime despite doing so in the title. That’s the climate in which the charges against Burke will be heard.

It’s always those who whine loudest about human rights at swanky inner urban dinner parties who are the first to be willing to trash them in pursuit of political foes. That’s certainly been the case with Burke’s foes like Carmen Lawrence and others that have kept the extreme Left in control of the now completely dysfunctional WA branch of the Labor party.

In a public statement released by Burke last year, he offered a shocking insight into what the CCC does to its victims. It’s essential reading for those who want to look beyond the media’s attempted lynching of the man.

It obstructs justice by doing everything within its power to nobble defendants, besmirch, bully and bankrupt them.

It resists any attempt by the courts and the Parliamentary watchdog to scrutinise its conduct.

It is a Star Chamber running out of control.

But like every tyrant riding on the tiger’s back, there can be little doubt that the CCC’s boss Len Roberts-Smith will have much to regret from his reign of error.

He is the playground bully and junkyard dog of Western Australian political life. Willing to crucify and wanting to destroy people he knows just have to suck it up. And all the while, organised criminals in that state sell dangerous narcotics, engage in people smuggling, human trafficking, prostitution and many other activities you’d think might be worthy of the attention of an agency like the CCC.

Instead Len Roberts-Smith focuses on cardigan wearing bureaucrats and highly vulnerable politicians knowing that such efforts will always draw headlines and boost his prodigious ego.

  1. I have always been a supporter of Brian Burke. He was a great Premier, and he is an honest and straight man. The Carmen Lawrence actions against him were despicable and were responsible for her loss of the state premiership.

The ALP has been Brian’s worst enemy, not the Liberal Party. Every action against Brian by the state ALP and its lackeys has had only one beneficiary. The Liberal Party.

  2. The CCC is a disgraceful organisation. Its Victorian equivalent is the EPA, a Stasi like organisation that assumes you are guilty until you prove your innocence.

EPA Stasi Minister Gavin Jennings and his lackey Mick Bourke are the Victorian equivalents of the WA CCC.

  4. McGinty’s reading of the Bill to parliament stated:

“The CCC may not make a finding or form an opinion on whether a person has
committed, is committing, or is about to commit a criminal or disciplinary offence.  This is consistent with the position that it is for the prosecuting
authorities and the courts to deal with these matters.”

Problem is that the CCC is also a prosecuting authority! It would seem that the CCC is able to investigate without forming an opinion or proffer a finding, that is, until they change hats and become the prosecuting authority as well. What crap is this!?

So where does this prosecutorial power come from and who gave it to the CCC? It is not in their legislation! Was it the previous Attorney General playing around with related legislation or the current Attorney General by delegation?

Is it coincidence that the current charges were laid the same day as parliament resumed.

Someone also needs to ask the question as to why it is that none of the Labor Left have been picked up by the CCC intercepts?

And one other thing, I note with interest that the senior CCC “analyst” Donald Barrett ran for the seat of Cockburn last election, stating that it was his
“democratic right”. I certainly don’t have a problem with that, but why aren’t these same democratic rights extended to consenting adults wishing to discuss politics in the privacy of one’s office or home without then subsequently being charged with corruption? Was Mr Barrett approached to run in the seat while an active agent the CCC? People in WA are being charged for merely discussing politics if the CCC determine that it fits their definition of corruption!

We need interstate help now to bring this not only to the attention of others but to the world that we live within a state where public servants and those who interact with them are controlled by fear by a despotic body able to secretly investigate, intercept, photograph, surprise “witnesses” by withholding information (then charging them for misleading the CCC), withhold exculpatory evidence, offer no right of reply, and with the ability to lay charges and the list goes on!

  5. Carmen “I can’t recall” Lawrence who imposed youth curfews and mandatory sentencing has now reinvented herself as a pious lefty harpy

  7. Whats your number plate? I want to anonymously report you to the EPA and have you fined without evidence.

  8. People are doing just that 15.45. The staff of Jennings wrote items on Poll Bludger defending the EPA. This is a disgraceful use of public money.

It is difficult to get media interest (apart from Vexnews) into the similarities between the CCC in Western Australia and the EPA Stasi in Victoria.

Thank God we have Vexnews. Australia’s greatest news source. The defender of freedom.

  12. Give them hell, Brian! The CCC (Coca-Cola Commission) deserve it. I hope the Sandgropers don’t forget the now infamous Coca-Cola case investigated in 2006 when the CCC was noted as investigating the alleged removal of a can of coca-cola from a student by a teacher; seemingly viewed as corrupt behaviour by the secretive and well funded Coca-Cola Commission: “… the CCC took great interest in an alleged incident in which a teacher removed a coke can from a student and conducted its own investigations, with CCC officers visiting the primary school. Yet around the same time the CCC indicated no interest in investigating a matter in which a principal had allegedly engaged a contract worth millions of dollars without following State Supply Commission rules.” SELECT COMMITTEE INTO THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION AND TRAINING – session 2

And while this was happening, fewer hospital beds, fewer nurses, long wait lists and over worked and under paid staff.

What value a can of Coke!?

  13. Gotta loooove the EPA and CCC. Proceedings without natural justice, allow smear as evidence and deny people their legal rights.

The Gestapo and Stasi would be proud.

  14. Hey, Birds of a feather, little bit on edge aren’t you! Exactly what is a “vile political crook”? I’d say you are weighed down with a little bird shit on your own wing.

  15. Don’t forget in Victoria we had The corporate affairs with :I WANT BLOOD” Henry Bosch who ran out of control.
Prosecuting innocent people on the word of a self confessed briber of public officers. The briber got a fine with Henry’s men giving him a character reference in court.(yes this is true) The public servant got 4 years.

87 was not a good year.

The only genuine conviction by Henry’s storm troopers was one of their own employess – for insider trading.

WA is now getting what we in Vic had in the 80′s and 90′s.

When the government investigators take a personal interest in a case justice is not done.

  16. Two police forces operating in the one state. One to collect revenue, the other to tackle serious crime like the following:

A 57-year-old piano tuner has been charged by the state’s corruption watchdog with the theft of a grand piano from a Perth university.
It is alleged the man took the instrument from the University of WA’s music school more than a decade ago to his workshop for maintenance and sold it for $20,000.
The Corruption and Crime Commission says the charges stem from information from a whistleblower.
The man is due to face the Perth Magistrates Court tomorrow.
